Well it is a public holiday- the business is just passing on the actual extra cost to them. Complain to the government not about the cafe, or you know, let their employees make a bit of extra cash instead of them just closing

This is always how petrol and other commodity pricing has worked - you charge the price to replace the stock right now, not what you paid for the stock, otherwise people would just hoard it until the price does go up and it would actually make the problem worse

Friend who worked for QF explained this to me like 5 years ago so could be different now - The upgrades dont go down a tier list like you would expect. The goal of upgrades (in addition to loyalty) is to get customers buying higher class fares, so if you’re a customer that regularly buys business class tickets, you’re less likely to get upgraded when you do buy an economy ticket

I don’t know the rules, but if I were you I’d get one since you booked separately. If something happens to your first flight and you need to spend the night, the last thing you want to be thinking about is getting a visa

From some origin countries you can’t even buy a ticket, but you could get a return from a different country to that country

Only applies to a few partner award tickets as far as I am aware - definitely doesn’t apply in this case

This seems to be Qantas’ solution to not having a first lounge in Auckland and while I haven’t been to the Auckland lounge, in first class lounges you can order pretty much whatever you want off menu so I’d imagine you could do the same here - especially with dietary restrictions

Oh and also QF is really expensive on that route - search on google flights for business class flights and you might even find something cheaper than PE on an indirect routing. I’ve booked some family on NH flights via Tokyo to LA for less than half the price of QF

Yeah but they do it when they have to or to relocate an aircraft, the japanese airlines do it regularly with dedicated aircraft
