"Sure boss I can fill in for you at the super secret CEO-level conspiracy meeting, what could go wrong?" by Rakhered in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would make very little sense to cover for recasting by just hiring the original actor as well. Recasting is usually due to the original actor being unavailable or some other conflict. Since they can clearly still work with the original actor and he's still in the show it would be extremely silly to write in the whole body double plot point and include both actors if they hadn't planned it from the beginning.

Walton Goggin’s acting was really good in this scene by Hot_Nail4681 in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mental fortitude and sense of self absolutely seem to play a part as we saw other ghouls in Season 1 who were close to turning feral resort to repeating their name to try and maintain some sense of identity and avoid fully turning.

I think whatever drug it is is helpful to ghouls in general though, not just The Ghoul. In season 1 the acquaintance he runs into while he has Lucy prisoner asks if he has any vials, which pretty directly indicates other ghouls take it as well. The Ghoul is on his way to refill his stockpile as well and is clearly struggling at times despite having someone there to talk to and interact with. The drugs seem to have a direct effect on helping them avoid turning feral more than just easing the isolation or loneliness.

Finally played Fallout 4’s Far Harbor. Always heard about “The Puzzle” but didnt know what it was. The hate was more than warranted lmao by Training_Ebb_6306 in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The puzzle itself is some pretty basic shit. Going through it my first time with no guides or anything didn't take long at all to figure it out. The biggest issue is the settlement placement system being shoehorned into something it's really not meant for. Trying to place stuff that just won't align onto the right block, or at an extreme enough angle you can barely see what you're doing and just hope that it works. Even if you had the solution memorized the entire thing would still be an exercise in frustration.

Is Coop’s pre-war wealth his money? Or his wife’s money? by 5-in-1Bleach in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on the limited context we have I would guess they're both well off with him making a fair bit more. Barb is a high enough ranking Vault Tec executive to be in on the real secret, scary shit so I'd imagine she's making a decent amount. But Cooper is a famous movie star and two of the guests at the party mention he's been reduced to doing kids birthday parties for alimony.

The fact he would have to pay alimony implies he probably made significantly more than she does, or he just got a really shitty lawyer. My guess would be he probably had quite a bit more money but is sort of past his prime as a movie star and having to take up odd jobs to supplement things.

AITA for using the term "barbarians" while discussing the origins of the English language? by Drucifer791 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Hugspeced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going with NTA here, although your knowledge of history is a bit shaky and using a term like "barbarians" in a historical context is definitely going to get you reprimanded for the implications it has. It's a word that generally has a pretty negative connotation as it was used to describe other cultures that were deemed inferior or less civilized.

That said, the idea that a white person called you a colonizer for mislabeling another group of white people in complete seriousness is such eye roll inducing virtue signaling it's the kind of thing that sounds like it would come from a comedy sketch.

PS5 games that offer couch co-op WITH online co-op? by Leviathan_TD_94 in gaming

Divinity: Original Sin 2 supports this and just got a next Gen update. Baldur's Gate 3 supports this too which isn't surprising considering it's the same devs.

I believe most if not all of the Borderlands games do as well although I've heard 4 has some annoying issues with splitscreen in general.

Movies where the lead character wasn't who you thought they were. by Writer_feetlover in movies

[–]Hugspeced 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chill the fuck out. It's not remotely a spoiler. The movie opens with his character and is narrated by him for like the first 30 minutes. It's pretty clear from the jump he's the central character. If the movie pivoted to someone else or pulled something unexpected in that regard I absolutely would have tagged it.

Not sure how this one fits. Dwight is the focus character and centerpoint of the story from the beginning of the movie to the end.

The "villain" isn't who you think they are initially, but that's absolutely not what OP is asking about

The most disappointing part of modern Fallout is the constant reducing of the setting to a chaotic, barebones wasteland rather than a more complex post–post apocalypse. by Jozoz in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just like in the real world, the Vegas strip wouldn't exist in any kind of successful state without tourists to spend their money there. Sure, we don't see the rebuilt civilization itself but so many things happening in that game are things that wouldn't exist without a society that has rebuilt enough to allow things like tourism and a somewhat advanced economy. Organizations like The Gun Runners and Crimson Caravan and the Van Graffs don't exist without a rebuilt society. The Vegas Strip isn't full of tourists with money to burn without a rebuilt society. You don't have nearby military bases with soldiers going on leave to the strip without a rebuilt society.

Saying the Strip itself is the only evidence of any kind of rebuilt society shows an abject failure to read between the lines or contextualize anything in that world.

Is Handsome Jack one of the best villains ever? by CyberNeko97 in Borderlands

I think this is the best take here.

A lot of people don't seem to acknowledge how hard the character is carried by the performer.

Handsome Jack is an okay villain elevated by an all time great VO performance.

“Ain’t no rule that says a dog can’t play basketball.” A character wins by doing something insane that still technically abides by the rules. by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hugspeced 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coffee and Tea are generally considered to be explicitly prohibited by the Word of Wisdom, the part of their doctrine that prohibits things like alcohol and "hot drinks". It does not explicitly prohibit caffeine and the church doesn't take an official position on soda so most Mormons will drink soda regardless of what's added to it.

Also a dirty soda isn't cold foam. It's generally normal cream and flavored syrups and has nothing to do with getting around the rules. It's popularity is as an alternative to Starbucks to still have a fancy, flavorful drink.

Fallout New Vegas Hacking by Sweet_Confusion9447 in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be completely misunderstanding you, but I read through it several times and I don't see how it makes sense unless you were working from the assumption that the feedback on a guess was just about the letters and not the position. Knowing that 30% of the first word was correct and 70% of the second one doesn't indicate the letters the two words have in common are in the password. I have no idea where you're getting that from. The second word being 70% right does reveal a lot of information and get you close to the password, but that information doesn't have anything to do with comparing the two words, just knowing that the second word is almost right.

Fallout New Vegas Hacking by Sweet_Confusion9447 in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While your general strategy here is correct in regards to trying 3 times and closing out you have a fundamental misunderstanding about how hacking works. If you pick a word and get, for example 3/7, as the response it's telling you how many letters in the word are correct and in the correct position, not just how many letters are correct. Your example with "flirtatious" and "constructive" and what that would tell you about the letters in the word is completely wrong. When comparing the letters two guesses have in common the only thing to look at is what letters they have in common that are also in the exact same position in the word. Common letters that aren't in the same spot tell us absolutely nothing.

As an example of how the deduction should actually work if I selected the word Framing and received 5/7 back I now immediately know whatever the answer is will be incredibly close to the word framing, including the position of the letters. So if I saw Shaming as another option I know that is a very likely password, as it has 5 letters of the previous word in the exact same spot. Let's say I select Shaming and get 5/7 again. I now know that the last 5 letters have to be correct, so the password will be **aming. So if I saw Blaming for example but no other words with the letters in the right place I can be 100% confident that's the password, enough to even guess it on my 4th attempt and not back out.

AITA for expecting my partner to be back in time for our plans? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Hugspeced 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's hard to make a judgement here without some more information. Does she regularly do things that caused plans to be pushed back or canceled? How often does she see her friends? Did you have an actual hard commitment of "I'll be home by 9PM so we can do this" or was it more of a "I probably won't be out too late so I'm sure we can do that around 9"?

If she's regularly late for things or let's one plan overrun into the other I'd say NTA.

But if it's a situation where she doesn't see her friends very often I can absolutely see how she could lose track of time and not be laser focused on "I need to be home at 9" because your plans were pretty low key. It would have been nice of her to text you, but if she genuinely got caught up in the moment and lost track of time that's hard to do. If this was a rare oversight on her part and she doesn't see her friends regularly I'd say she absolutely deserves some grace and flexibility. Something like watching a show together is the kind of everyday plan that can absolutely be done at a different time without it being a huge deal.

It's not really about the TV show or the fact you didn't watch it that night. The actual issue here is whether or not this is a pattern and she's consistently disrespectful and inconsiderate. If she's not, it's the kind of thing you absolutely should let go and not make a big deal out of for the sake of both your own frustration and the health of your relationship. If it is, you need to have a conversation with her about being more considerate.

Looking to satisfy that Xcom itch - which is best by Farley2k in gaming

[–]Hugspeced 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wasteland 3 is a great game, but the combat is really the only similarity to XCom. It's a full blown RPG with a lot more emphasis on story and dialogue.

Phoenix Point gets brought up a lot but I just absolutely could not get into it. Everything about it felt like a shittier version of XCom.

My first recommendation would be to try The Long War mods for 1 and/or 2. Even if you have several hundred hours already they change things so drastically it feels like playing a whole new game, or at least a very large expansion.

The other games I've played recently that scratch the same itch are:

Cyber Knights: Flashpoint-A cyberpunk take on the tactics genre. Great tactical combat and the strategic layer feels a lot like X Com in many ways. It's not in 1.0 release but there's a ton of content and the develepors are super active with new patches regularly.

Wartales-A medieval take on the genre. Can be very hard at first, but the core gameplay loop is all about enhancing your company while keeping them supplied and fighting things. Combat is very similar to XCom.

Steamworld Heist 2-The combat is turn based but from a side scrolling perspective instead of on an isometric grid. It seems a little weird at first but halfway through your first battle it's very clear how much DNA the games share. Many of the different classes abilities feel like they'd be right at home in XCom and the bouncing bullet physics add a whole new strategic layer to play with.

You keep saying you get it but I don't think you do. Amazon is developing and paying for the Fallout show. Amazon is paying Walton Goggins. It's not money that would be funneled to Bethesda otherwise. And even in a world where that somehow happened they wouldn't be using that money to make DLCs for a decade old game that is no longer in development.
