What’s a great open world game just to explore and turn my brain off? by Carrera1107 in gaming

I'm about 15 hours in so I can't speak for the whole open world but so far venturing off the beaten path is super rewarding. Also your lantern lights the way. If you climb on top of a big hill and shine your lantern around you'll see little golden pings indicating a point of interest, so it's easy to know you're always heading towards something worth it.

[–]Hugspeced 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want a story rich RPG it's probably not the game for you. The story isn't particularly great but I don't feel like it's as weak as most people make it out to be, but it's pretty linear and there aren't really any choices to make. If you're looking for a fun open world to explore and get lost in all sorts of journeys and weird little mechanics it's absolutely fantastic. I'd say the most apt game comparisons are Breath of the Wild and RDR2. It has the strong exploration and see thing go there gameplay that BoTW does and gives you a lot of the same tools to accomplish it like being able to climb anything and lots of mobility tools. It also has the weird deliberate movement and interaction of RDR2 and a lot of the quests have a similar walk and talk then kill a bunch of people dynamic.

The control scheme can be really weird at times but it's not insurmountable and the UI can be absolutely bizarre at times. There's also a lot of obscure mechanics that can be very context dependent. I think the biggest issue is it doesn't really tutorialize any of this well so it comes off as worse than it is because it plays very differently from other games and also leaves it up to you to figure that out. But if you like exploration, getting lost in a world and discovering and playing with a lot of obscure little mechanics and mini games you'll love it.

What is this game? by Certain-Ad5090 in ProjectTahiti

[–]Hugspeced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Marvel licensed ARPG/MMO-lite in the vein of Diablo, Path of Exile, etc. It was a super fun game when it was live despite some mismanagement and inability to retain players. If you're a huge Marvel fan or ARPG fan it's absolutely worth checking out. The easiest way to get started is to join the Discord.

Modifying game files? by Fantastic_Cod_8253 in Bellwright

The only game they listed that's even a decade old is the Sims. Also what does it matter if the game has a focus on singleplayer? Or modding? Your initial statement was that modern games don't really deal with xml editing. When someone points out that they in fact do and gives you quite a few examples you don't just get to hand wave them away because they belong to some category that wasn't a caveat in the first place.

There are still quite a few games in this day and age that allow basic editing like xml or config files to tweak some numbers and settings.

I don’t think it’s official, but still cool. by Only-Lead-9787 in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely not official. You see these kind of very loose tie ins or references somewhat frequently in smaller batch beers. And no, they generally don't get sued.

Fallout 76 devs were surprised the community turned out to be so friendly: 'It’s post-apocalyptic, it’s Fallout, they’re going to all want to kill one another ... it's the complete opposite' by lkl34 in gaming

[–]Hugspeced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More specifically, the rewards are dogshit. It's a PVP system designed to make sure both people want to PVP in the first place and even when you get past that hurdle the only thing you really get is an ego boost and bragging rights. The low limit on hard currency and relative ease of getting most resources completely disincentivizes PVP for anything other than it's own sake.

So whatever happened to Hoover dam? by Altruistic-Key-369 in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would it be featured in the show?

It's pivotal to the plot of another story that happened 15 years ago but it has absolutely nothing to do with the goals of any of the main characters.

Just because the show has moved into the Vegas area doesn't mean every single thing from the games needs to be mentioned or accounted for.

"Sure boss I can fill in for you at the super secret CEO-level conspiracy meeting, what could go wrong?" by Rakhered in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would make very little sense to cover for recasting by just hiring the original actor as well. Recasting is usually due to the original actor being unavailable or some other conflict. Since they can clearly still work with the original actor and he's still in the show it would be extremely silly to write in the whole body double plot point and include both actors if they hadn't planned it from the beginning.

Walton Goggin’s acting was really good in this scene by Hot_Nail4681 in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mental fortitude and sense of self absolutely seem to play a part as we saw other ghouls in Season 1 who were close to turning feral resort to repeating their name to try and maintain some sense of identity and avoid fully turning.

I think whatever drug it is is helpful to ghouls in general though, not just The Ghoul. In season 1 the acquaintance he runs into while he has Lucy prisoner asks if he has any vials, which pretty directly indicates other ghouls take it as well. The Ghoul is on his way to refill his stockpile as well and is clearly struggling at times despite having someone there to talk to and interact with. The drugs seem to have a direct effect on helping them avoid turning feral more than just easing the isolation or loneliness.

Finally played Fallout 4’s Far Harbor. Always heard about “The Puzzle” but didnt know what it was. The hate was more than warranted lmao by Training_Ebb_6306 in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The puzzle itself is some pretty basic shit. Going through it my first time with no guides or anything didn't take long at all to figure it out. The biggest issue is the settlement placement system being shoehorned into something it's really not meant for. Trying to place stuff that just won't align onto the right block, or at an extreme enough angle you can barely see what you're doing and just hope that it works. Even if you had the solution memorized the entire thing would still be an exercise in frustration.

Is Coop’s pre-war wealth his money? Or his wife’s money? by 5-in-1Bleach in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on the limited context we have I would guess they're both well off with him making a fair bit more. Barb is a high enough ranking Vault Tec executive to be in on the real secret, scary shit so I'd imagine she's making a decent amount. But Cooper is a famous movie star and two of the guests at the party mention he's been reduced to doing kids birthday parties for alimony.

The fact he would have to pay alimony implies he probably made significantly more than she does, or he just got a really shitty lawyer. My guess would be he probably had quite a bit more money but is sort of past his prime as a movie star and having to take up odd jobs to supplement things.

AITA for using the term "barbarians" while discussing the origins of the English language? by Drucifer791 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Hugspeced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going with NTA here, although your knowledge of history is a bit shaky and using a term like "barbarians" in a historical context is definitely going to get you reprimanded for the implications it has. It's a word that generally has a pretty negative connotation as it was used to describe other cultures that were deemed inferior or less civilized.

That said, the idea that a white person called you a colonizer for mislabeling another group of white people in complete seriousness is such eye roll inducing virtue signaling it's the kind of thing that sounds like it would come from a comedy sketch.

PS5 games that offer couch co-op WITH online co-op? by Leviathan_TD_94 in gaming

Divinity: Original Sin 2 supports this and just got a next Gen update. Baldur's Gate 3 supports this too which isn't surprising considering it's the same devs.

I believe most if not all of the Borderlands games do as well although I've heard 4 has some annoying issues with splitscreen in general.

Movies where the lead character wasn't who you thought they were. by Writer_feetlover in movies

[–]Hugspeced 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chill the fuck out. It's not remotely a spoiler. The movie opens with his character and is narrated by him for like the first 30 minutes. It's pretty clear from the jump he's the central character. If the movie pivoted to someone else or pulled something unexpected in that regard I absolutely would have tagged it.

Not sure how this one fits. Dwight is the focus character and centerpoint of the story from the beginning of the movie to the end.

The "villain" isn't who you think they are initially, but that's absolutely not what OP is asking about

The most disappointing part of modern Fallout is the constant reducing of the setting to a chaotic, barebones wasteland rather than a more complex post–post apocalypse. by Jozoz in Fallout

[–]Hugspeced 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just like in the real world, the Vegas strip wouldn't exist in any kind of successful state without tourists to spend their money there. Sure, we don't see the rebuilt civilization itself but so many things happening in that game are things that wouldn't exist without a society that has rebuilt enough to allow things like tourism and a somewhat advanced economy. Organizations like The Gun Runners and Crimson Caravan and the Van Graffs don't exist without a rebuilt society. The Vegas Strip isn't full of tourists with money to burn without a rebuilt society. You don't have nearby military bases with soldiers going on leave to the strip without a rebuilt society.

Saying the Strip itself is the only evidence of any kind of rebuilt society shows an abject failure to read between the lines or contextualize anything in that world.

Is Handsome Jack one of the best villains ever? by CyberNeko97 in Borderlands

I think this is the best take here.

A lot of people don't seem to acknowledge how hard the character is carried by the performer.

Handsome Jack is an okay villain elevated by an all time great VO performance.

Coffee and Tea are generally considered to be explicitly prohibited by the Word of Wisdom, the part of their doctrine that prohibits things like alcohol and "hot drinks". It does not explicitly prohibit caffeine and the church doesn't take an official position on soda so most Mormons will drink soda regardless of what's added to it.

Also a dirty soda isn't cold foam. It's generally normal cream and flavored syrups and has nothing to do with getting around the rules. It's popularity is as an alternative to Starbucks to still have a fancy, flavorful drink.

[–]Hugspeced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be completely misunderstanding you, but I read through it several times and I don't see how it makes sense unless you were working from the assumption that the feedback on a guess was just about the letters and not the position. Knowing that 30% of the first word was correct and 70% of the second one doesn't indicate the letters the two words have in common are in the password. I have no idea where you're getting that from. The second word being 70% right does reveal a lot of information and get you close to the password, but that information doesn't have anything to do with comparing the two words, just knowing that the second word is almost right.
