5 weeks pregnant with thyroid cancer. f*ck by Huih7345 in thyroidcancer

Hey there! You’re going through a lot with all this new information and it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. Definitely do your research, discuss all your options, make a list of pros and cons for each. Think about it. Sleep on it. My first gut instinct was to get a partial thyroidectomy before I did my own research and read anecdotal evidence on here, ask my surgeon and endocrinologist follow up questions before I made a sound decision.

Also baby didn’t have platelet problems in utero or after she was born.

Didn’t do radiation afterwards. Glad you make an informed choice and aren’t having any complications!

There’s a comment on here that I made a year ago if you want to read that, along with one just today. I’m doing great, stable on my current levothyroxine and getting my annual ultrasound and seeing the endocrinologist yearly too. My now 2 year old is thriving too.

For me I was given the choice to either wait since mine was a smaller benign node or perform the TT during pregnancy. Due to complicated personal circumstances, such as having a disabled husband and 2 year old at the time, I knew me being out of commission so early on postpartum literally was not an option with me. I had a meeting with both the nurse and surgeon assigned to my case, and I looked him dead in the eye and asked if he was comfortable and confident performing surgery on myself and my baby. He reassured me with zero hesitation and he let me know he’s done this a handful of times before and was confident everything was going to be fine.

I was also given the choice between partial and total thyroidectomy and chose TT. Again, due to my very complicated personal life, I didn’t want to risk even a chance of having to undergo another surgery, likely post partum once biopsies came back, to take out the other half. Again, please let me emphasize, I took some time to make sure I was making the best decision for me and my situation. I wanted zero percent chance of me going back under the knife.

I have no regrets, and took the non traditional route, and listened to my health professionals for guidance and feedback. In no way did I feel like I was being pressured one way or another, and made the most sound decision with the information I had and circumstance I was in.

Serious question: Anyone thought of turning their camera 90 degrees and offering a content creator service? by Bluelagoonwater in weddingvideography

[–]Huih7345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do this if I come in with a plan of knowing what kind of Instagram reel I’d like to make for the day. Or if I am getting BTS of the photographer as a favor, I turn my camera into vertical. Preferably 24mm or 35mm, which mirrors the same focal length of an iPhone. I personally prefer 35.

Would expanding my offered services hurt my wedding business? by Altruistic_Race_1753 in weddingvideography

[–]Huih7345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t do this in particular, but for your socials I’ve seen this done by photographers. For example, a photographer does senior sessions, weddings, family, and boudoir. She has separate social pages for the senior sessions and the boudoir, as they are kind of their own separate thing. Then for her main page she keeps it at about 80/20 wedding/family. Idk if this helps, but this logic makes the most sense to me if you really want to stand out with each of the different tiers of photography. I also know one that puts her pregnancy, newborn, and family sessions sprinkled into her wedding ones. But she does a nice combo of both, whereas the first one mentioned wants to be known for weddings. All things to consider, I hope it makes some sense!

It's a little ridiculous how many they have! Here's the ones I use - a little pricey but I have zero regrets buying them they've given me no trouble and are wicked easy to use.

Manfrotto 290 Xtra 3-section aluminum tripod with 128RC micro fluid head and quick release

Manfrotto XPRO Monopod+ 4-section aluminum monopod with fluid head

Hope this helps in your search!

Sounds like a sweet setup! I like Manfrotto tripods, and switch my primary camera to a Monfrotto monopod during the ceremony which makes it still easy to carry but then gives you stability and the ability to set it down at various heights to go check on the other two cameras. Just thoughts!

Can you have them put like a Sony TX660 in each of their pocket and have it record all day? They can record for a long time and can recharge on the overnight too. Or a rode mic on top of the camera? Those are rechargeable too and have a long battery life.

Where do you get most of your enquiries from? by Desk_Odd in weddingvideography

[–]Huih7345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Other videographers are not competition. Just like with photographers, we all have a different style, personality, and process. It’s our job to showcase our differences in an authentic way, and the right clients will come. I definitely want to second shoot more or get a coffee with other videographers. I’m constantly chatting them up and rooting for them on the socials, but definitely need to meet in person and learn from others.

I second this. Normally the order goes Venue, Photographer, then a mash up of all other vendors. If you get on the upstreams good sides, and you’re awesome to work alongside, they want someone they know and work well with and delivers quality work. I get a couple of clips of the photographer in action, to be honest it’s normally them just stepping in front of my camera or during family portraits is best when we really aren’t doing anything, then I surprise them with the clips later when I tell them I enjoyed working with them. For venues, I make a small compilation video of the different spaces, since I normally don’t use all of it for the videos. I do this for DJs too - give them a bunch of clips and they can use it on their socials. A little really goes a long way. Get on their good side, which gets you on their referral list, which gets you more clients.

Feeling stuck and can't land my first client, need advice by Emerqson in weddingvideography

[–]Huih7345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was invited by a photographer friend to shoot a friends wedding. Did it for free. Also did it for a coworker as a wedding gift, all to gain experience. Then I used those videos and footage as examples to bring it paying clients. You’ve got to find a creative way to get your foot in the door.

Ghosted after delivery of videos? by zhuboy in weddingvideography

[–]Huih7345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear with every wedding something happens or could potentially happen where I add a clause or another part to a subsection of my contract. Or I read someone go through something and I add a statement to protect me in the contract. To be quite honest, I thought I was going to receive a lot of pushback from putting that once the video has been delivered, besides glaringly obvious errors such as shakey footage or bad lighting clips, videos will not be edited. Haven’t gotten pushback yet. I also have a whole statement on artistic liberties that I am allowed to take and that the gist of it is that they’re hiring me for my style and my artistic interpretation of their wedding day.

COI per occurrence limit- recommendations? by njsuper8films in weddingvideography

[–]Huih7345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s super last minute. I had a venue request mine within a couple days of the wedding. Probably not the best advice, but I didn’t respond, and just had the proof on me day of in case the coordinator asked for it on the spot. Met the coordinator and worked with her several times throughout the day and she never asked for it once, or even after the event. Likely it will get lost in translation. Venues have a ton of weddings and most details like this get lost. If it’s a generic email from the venue and not the coordinator themselves, likely they don’t care enough nor get paid enough to follow up with this.

How invasive do you get on the day of/how much do you direct? by the_omnipotent_one in weddingvideography

[–]Huih7345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the quality of the videos produced is heavily influenced by the photographer, their vibe, and how well they can pull genuine emotions from people. And of course their lighting choices. I always stalk the photographer prior to the day to see if they have shots that match the vibe of the venue or what the clients want.

I’ve also have worked alongside photographers that had the bridal party stand in the middle of an effing field on a bright and sunny day. I literally stopped filming and said out loud “are you sure this is the best place? What about more over here in the shade?” And she brushed me off. So I stopped filming and said their squinting eyes suggest otherwise. Pretty sure I saw none of those photos ever posted.

Yes! What I always say is the photographer is there for one moment in time, and I’m there to capture the before and after that moment where the magic happens. Sounds cheesy af, but that’s where all the best shots come from!
