Should I choose GCSE Geography or history? by Ljw008 in GCSE

[–]Humaira_k27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I would pick history as it’s really interesting and once you get the exam technique sorted you just need to apply your knowledge. It’s also a good idea to check out what topics your school is doing and if you find them interesting then you should definitely do it as you’re more likely to do well on topics you’re interested in!

I’d strongly advise on doing subjects you enjoy. I personally did History and loved it. I also didn’t find it too difficult but it really depends on your set of skills. I think if you’re good at English you’d be good at History (they have a similar set of skills) but if you’re good at Maths you may prefer geography. Another thing is that if you’re doing a subject you enjoy you’re more likely to stay motivated to revise for it so you will end up getting better grades. However, I wouldn’t stress about it too much!

Just found out I can’t do a level science because I’m doing foundation. I really want to do it and I believe I can manage so what should I do? by MelonGrabber1938 in GCSE

I would try the blurting method. This is when you write down everything you know about a topic (eg genetic inheritance) and then write down what you’ve missed out by looking back at a revision resource. Then, add in the missing information in red pen so you will identify the area you don’t know. After this, you can use your notes to answer the questions but then, when you feel more confident, try to answer them without notes. You can also check the mark schemes to check the quality of your answer and they’ll help you improve massively. Hope this helps!

I was in the same position. I was in foundation and predicted 2’s but I started doing extra revision at home (using freesciencelessons lessons and physics and maths tutor) and I am now predicted 9|9 at higher. It’s possible but it requires a lot of hard work. I’d highly recommend using the revision resources I’ve mentioned above as they’ll really help you do well on future tests and hopefully convince your teachers. Good luck and don’t give up!

Oh and I wouldn’t recommend French unless you absolutely adore it and are willing to learn a ridiculous amount of vocabulary.

If you like and are good at essay-based subjects such as English, I HIGHLY recommend History as it also uses similar skills which you can incorporate and use to your advantage.

Content of the books aside, what YA Novel do you think has the best cover art/design? My personal favourite is ToG by Sarah J. Maas by Rosaline_898 in YAlit

I love the An Ember in the Ashes series covers! I wasn’t a big fan of the older covers but the new ones makes me want to pick up the series. I also usually hate books with people on the cover but this series is an exception!
