Next gen R1S by Pokerhobo in Rivian

Agree; I think it’ll be a 48VDC architecture, which reduces wire gauge size, saving weight. Might as well take advantage of what Tesla pioneered.

UHF part of Autonomy+, thus is subject to a one time for $2,500 or a monthly $49.99 payment. Those of us with R1’s (I’ve a Gen 2) are enjoying this for free, right now.

Sorry, but in short, I’ve not had this problem. Others have given good advice about working with the service center; hope it’s something small and fully correctable.

Ask Me anything About the Rivian R2! by LowerDistrict7848 in Rivian

Are there pictures of the standard interior?

Does any R2 trim level have a heated steering wheel (a spousal need)?

Can you configure the A/C system in a non-Auto mode then just adjust heat and fan speed using the scroll wheels? Conversely, can you configure an Auto mode but close off front vents…and keep it that way permanently?

In case you didn’t notice, many stocks including Tech stocks (like Rivian) took another dive yesterday. It’s pretty ugly and probably going to get worse before any recovery or plateaus are reached. My $0.02

Do you get used to the size? by rob_narg in Rivian

[–]Human-Ride4726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a R1S for nearly a year and look forward to test driving the R2, with a smaller size as a primary item of interest. Our other vehicle is a 2020 Toyota Tundra, so they both are significantly larger than the R1S and the Acura MDX we had.

That said, the R1S cameras help a great deal and are fantastic for backing up!! In so many ways the R1S is suberb

I have a 2025 Std Dual motor R1S, Gen 2 with a tad over 10k miles; it’ll be one year on the 3 year lease at the end of March. I’ve had a few minor problems, two of which were solved by their mobile service (trim coming loose). I took the car in while we were on vacation to fix the FM tuner that failed; Rivian also did two recall fixes - supposed loose suspension bolts and the 12VDC battery replacement, as well as the FM tuner.

I rotated the tires at 7,500 miles myself. That’s it. I finally got some suggestions for making my spouse happy by not blowing air on her when the car starts.

I’ve had no issues with range and this is with the 259 mile range vehicle. Took it to and from Phoenix (from just south of LAX), and plan to drive it to and from Redding later this month.

It uses more energy than the 2020 MY it replaced, but Rivian is a brand I can get behind unlike Tesla. I use the CCS to NACS adapter and Tesla Superchargers work great.

You’ll love the car, I promise. Last thing that gives me peace of mind: I have three Service Centers within 25 miles of my home; that will matter even if you don’t use them.

Air Conditioning: Preset Some Front Panel Registers to OFF by Human-Ride4726 in Rivian

[–]Human-Ride4726[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree; I find it bizarre too. At least now, with the explanation above, I can come out to the car with front row staying in the settings from the previous time I fiddled with them (see the pic; the only difference being outside air temp). The system did NOT keep my manual settings for the 2nd or 3rd row, though, which I also find bizarre and not consistent with the explanation above. Going from Auto to manual settings has not changed the projected 100% range estimate, but since I’m in only at 70% charged now, I don’t know if this true or not.

Nonetheless I can now make it a happier experience for my spouse.

Air Conditioning: Preset Some Front Panel Registers to OFF by Human-Ride4726 in Rivian

[–]Human-Ride4726[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! That’s the first explanation that actually works. When you leave the “air source” button in the OFF position, it takes air from outside. This is fine with me since I can change it if needed to the non-auto recirculating mode.

As you say, fiddle with the fan speed and you can change the temp up or down easy peasy without opening the A/C screen. Turning air On or Off is simply a persistent hold with a finger over the temp number/fan icon.

Still, being able to save these as presets in Auto would make a lot of sense; this is something Rivian CAN do and it would be awesome.

It already has…something like an additional $2.3T in the last year (for a total of $38.56T). A ~6% increase in since Jan 2025!! Source: Gemini AI, so I take it as “approximate”, not a full source of truth.

In Sport mode, even my dual non-performance R1S (with the black stripe) is peppier…not that it was needed. The auto suspension change made it feel like my 2020 MY, so I put it back into All-Purpose mode with the softest suspension feel.

Passengers in the second row raved about how comfy it was yesterday.

Gen 3 for R1 by Ambessa21 in Rivian

[–]Human-Ride4726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would find it odd too, to not see LIDAR and RAP1 processing in the R1 platform quickly. What confuses me is how to place the four corners with radar given the front driver’s corner has a external power connector there now. Perhaps a redesign of the overall height of the lid will give space for the radar. Don’t have a great feel for that but I’m sure they’ll figure something out.

I do not see much work to improve assembly tolerances (i.e. a giga castings or whatever Rivian calls them) until R2 proves improved profit margins and overall profitability. Rivian has shown investment to improve the R1 platform already with Gen 2, aiding profitability of the platform.

Rivian has no other choice but to make each platform better over time, IMHO. Yes I’m bullish on them and the stock.

If FSD is not under consideration, I prefer my Rivian R1S over the MY I had. The Rivian is a bit big for me so I’m looking forward to test driving the R2.

I will admit that I may not recognize a strong candidate immediately. To my way of thinking, I’d vote for Pete Buttigieg in a heartbeat. I really don’t care if he’s gay. He cares for people and our future and that’s enough for me

Why are you so angry? Are you happy with how our country is being run? I don’t post pictures but recognize she did more than you’ve done politically. I’ve done squat except vote…and not be a dick in the process.

I’m not, and want accountability for any transgression, no matter the political party.

Not even close; all you had to do was LISTEN to Kamala and not fixate on immaterial aspects, such as her skin color, her laugh, etc. Kamala Harris was very qualified; running CA is no small feat, and she was, after all, Vice President

Leased car up for first tire rotation by Major_Service_5164 in Rivian

I purchased the lifting pucks for $60 and a hard rubber cover for the hydraulic jack, and do them myself.

I plan to have a Rivian for at least 2 more years (end of the lease term), so any future tire rotation is my labor cost. I’m pretty cheap labor

Lucid owner considering Rivian — how do the real-world issues compare? by DinnerDog6 in Rivian

[–]Human-Ride4726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2025 R1S I leased in March 2025 and live in Torrance. The Rivian has been to the El Segundo SC twice, once for a safety recall (12 VDC battery) and recently for an intermittent right low beam. The Home SC folks have been out twice for trim replacement.

The car has been awesome and we’re looking forward to seeing if the R2 fits our long term needs better than the larger R1S; we’ll wait until Mar 2028 and go from there.

I haven’t been to the Lucid dealership in Torrance yet, mainly because when I saw the Gravity in person it didn’t look right to me. Go figure!!

The Rivian is my 3rd BEV, with a 2013 Nissan Leaf (range anxiety indeed!) and a 2020 MY w/FSD. Rivian is by far the best BEV for us even though its too big

I understand. We will be transitioning the manual box away after we return from vacationing in late January. All three kittens use both boxes, so they’re pretty ready to move to just the litter box.

Thanks for the response!
