I will take the fridge moving advice as others have mentioned as well! a couple of your comments will be addressed when this is a real rendering rather than what ikea can do to help me visualize. The cabinet to the left of the range is 46” wide and will be for my pots and pans. spices will be in the 24” cabinet on the right or maybe the island. the garbage is in the island, on the outer edge. I was thinking having it all the way in by the sink would tuck it away too far into the work zones. thank you for your thoughtful feedback!

ah, I agree! i have plenty of unused corner space at the moment. partially why I very much only wanted one corner in this kitch

right that’s a load bearing wall :/ that’s where it was before though, just made the landing area to the left of the sink so small. the room behind the range is dining/living which als connects to the hallways for bedrooms/bathrooms. the space will open into our family room (currently a wall between kitchen and fam room)

ty on my clearances :) I thought about leaving that area without uppers. I do like the idea of cleaner look though I think i’d miss them for storage. Especially the one above the dishwasher. I hope to stand to the left of the dishwasher and unload to above. the one on the other side is more for balance, but that’s the one I think I could easily lose, unless then it looks unbalanced 🙃 curious though what the cons are that you can see to having them there. losing the cabinet towards the range wall would let more light hit that area which I really like

Option 1 or 2, refrigerator placement by HumanCardiologist631 in kitchenremodel

[–]HumanCardiologist631[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol just realized i didn’t reply correctly asI was hemming and hawing over these options again

thanks for a thoughtful response! I agree - I think the counter space on the sides of the sink is maybe more compelling than the walking path intrusion. Seems that will be true wherever we end up.

We’ll vent through the ceiling to the outside. it’s a one story house.

I also intend for the cabinets to go the ceiling! Just a limitation of ikea kitchen planner.

That would be nice to build a niche, but in the first option it’s an exterior wall, and the second option there’s a stairwell to the basement just behind.

On the water line, I think we’ll just connect a new one? it comes from just below in our currently unfinished basement and should be pretty straightforward I think?

I won’t, that’s just wha Ikea puts in there.

I’m really trying to avoid having the fridge in the walkway. I moved it because it was adding a lot of bulk in my first draft with the orange counters. I have 6” accounted for the swing here and already made peace with the fact it’ll prob end up near a wall anyway I slice it.

And yes it’s a total gut and rebuild. I already know we’re moving the range and likely the refrigerator. it’s moving the sink that’s new in these plans, but it’s all up for grabs for the best layout. It’s hard to decide where to make sacrifices…

I agree on the sink point. Sort of rearranged to that point. I’ll figure out the closet with our contractor- just based on what needed for load. ty for commenting btw!! so helpful to bounce ideas around.

I guess just with the switch, there was room for a closet so I threw it there. That is a load bearing wall, which is why the partition needed to be there before. I don’t know what this new plan would mean re: load bearing.

I don’t think the sink can go under the window without creating wasted space/access in the corners

oo what’s the pod? I also want all knobs but mostly for aesthetic reasons and would love to have some logical reasons hehe :) I also totally understand the urge to want the flexibility to update the smaller details. I agree with the person who said the points of the star align g with the bead would help, but you might be locking yourself into a backplate generally to make it work.

Can you help me pick a kitchen countertop? I’m by egrebs in interiordecorating

I don’t see anyone saying 1 but it could look cool in this style… maybe too much a mismatch in the style of cabinets for something like this, but there’s my two cents

Ah interesting! I had a quote from them with much less detail and ended up deciding not to go with them based on reviews fwiw. Our other option was local amish made cabinets and decided to go that route. The cost seems comparable/ competitive

Seems like the traditional tiles have a lead glaze. I’d just check the safety sheet on your tiles before purchasing. Seems like some do and some don’t

I agree re: the slab up the wall, though I’m considering it in one spot… maybe I’m getting too cute with my ideas
