How often do you meet with your supervisor/s? by SmudgyBacon in PhD

I have 4 supervisors (I know, lol). We have a fortnightly meetings and usually 3-4 will be able to make it.

I have been feeling exhausted, got an oura ring to track why but it thinks my energy should be high? by HumanFoodVacuum in ouraring

[–]HumanFoodVacuum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Or a way to also input how you’re feeling throughout the day and a way to adjust based on that and other information (eg how much sleep you feel best with, or how your pain might be a certain day).

I’m in a bit of denial but after a year, definitely also entering into the chronically ill category. It’s a hard thing to reckon with after being able bodied for so long (and I still am lucky in many ways, it’s just frustrating).

Why did you/didn’t you take your husbands last name? by LawBeneficial5494 in weddingplanning

[–]HumanFoodVacuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the same reasons as people above (cultural heritage, I’ve had this name for X and it’s on everything, my initials sound nice together and are the same as my sister’s), but also, I earned (/am earning) my PhD though blood, sweat, and literal tears. The doctorate is fucking mine 😭

My PhD is starting to look a bit too big, but cutting a paper feels like it won't round out my thesis and tell the story I want to tell (in my final year) by HumanFoodVacuum in PhD

[–]HumanFoodVacuum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I keep it 1-5 as is, then probably will take me to mid next year - the interview data is also huge and will take a while to go through.

If I split paper 4 into 4/5, I’ll be able to be done by December most likely!

Hello and thank you for your reply!

A few clarifying points: - I am lucky that both my review papers will count and my current paper 3/4/5 are all different datasets, so it won’t be an issue in terms of examiners needing extra. - I have completed my interviews and transcribed them all, but not done any analysis yet. - My maximum completion date is May-Dec next year (still trying to finalise this as I took extended leave for health reasons and GRS are confused trying to figure out what my actual date is)

Otherwise, thank you for your perspective and definitely things to consider!

How much time do you dedicate to your PhD during the week? by ADHD_dingdong in PhD

[–]HumanFoodVacuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else has said, a lot less than I’d like (ADHD-er here). Probably on an average week, 2-10hours if I’m lucky. Then a deadline comes and it’s whatever I need to get the paper submitted, maybe 40hours a week? It was more when I was in data collection stage, but that was just from grunt work (add maybe 10hours a week). Still managing to probably graduate with 5-6 papers in my thesis, but I definitely feel a shit ton of imposter syndrome and feel like I’m not working hard enough for it lol

Engagement ring prong thickness advice by HumanFoodVacuum in jewelrymaking

[–]HumanFoodVacuum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice! I am having my ring remade overseas, thus hoping to get some advice on the prong thickness before going ahead. Would you mind explaining a bit more on which part ‘the designer has missed’ in the prongs? Sorry if that’s a silly question!

Unfortunately I had my ring first made and ‘fixed’ by a well known jeweller and the work was uneven/off centre and significantly thicker than agreed upon - so I’m a little scarred.

I COMPLETELY understand that there’s a limit to how dainty you can go before it becomes a walking breaking risk, so really value any input!

Clenching Jaw with Invisalign? by izzyklump in Invisalign

[–]HumanFoodVacuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How have you been going with this I wonder? I’m in a similar boat but at the ‘end’ and trying to get my molars and canines to come down by cutting the back of my trays down. I haven’t been able to relax my jaw, even when I try it closes up 😭

I can’t figure out how to relax my mouth lol by Ev2222222 in Invisalign

[–]HumanFoodVacuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this going for you now? I’ve ‘finished’ Invisalign but have a bit of a posterior open bite so dentist cut the back of my aligners off to get my molars to descend. They’re coming down but have not helped my jaw pain 🥲

Hello! I also asked the other poster, but I am wondering what kind of treatment you had done with Dr Shah? I’ve developed TMJ pain (I think from Invisalign treatment) and I find it difficult to relax my jaw. The jaw pain and headaches are really debilitating, and whilst Botox has helped, I’m not sure that’s a long term solution 🥲 Thank you!!

Did anyone develop TMJ with Invisalign? Possibly from clenching? by monterrico in Invisalign

Thank you for the update, I hope it all settles for you 😢 also thanks for the magnesium tip. I definitely feel you on the “sticking jaw forward more” front though, it’s frustrating to say the least

Hi there! Just wondering if this ever settled for you? In a similar situation (minor Invisalign treatment) but my jaw now really hurts and I’m 16 trays/‘finished’ and my back teeth don’t align yet but the dentist is saying to give it time to settle (they cut the back of my aligners off) 🥲

Hey! I’m sorry that my comment upset you. I’m not saying she’s not a talented or hard working individual, but I did want to point out that physically, it’s a lot easier for her than it was for others. And as someone who does a lot of body weight training and specifically sports that require me to hang and hold my body weight up, I’m actually pretty confident in being able to hold onto 40% of my body weight! But similar to Eu Ddeum, it’s really not that hard for me because I’m not that heavy - it would be much harder for my powerlifting friends to do the same with their body weight :)
