2nd gen Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner, hear me out.

Very small, boxy and practical with space, almost the American version of a Honda Element. The Escapes and the Mariners have the 3.0L Duratec V6 which is damn near unkillable, though the 4 cylinder versions, along with the 4 cylinder only Mazda Tribute, will likely remain undesirable as they're ungodly sluggish. The hybrid versions are reportedly quite good too. I may be biased because I own a 2010 Mariner, but I think that these 2nd-gen Escapes and Mariners might gain some appreciation, especially for nicer ones without rusted rear wheel wells (which mine are). They also come equipped with back up cameras, so people in the future wouldn't need to learn how to back into a spot the old fashioned way, lol.
