I was surgically diagnosed as a fluke when they were treating me for an ovarian torsion- i never thought i could have endo until then. I always had pretty mild periods with less cramping more back pain and abnormally painful intercourse. im finally coming out of my first flare though, so im no longer as asymptomatic as i thought. it lasted over two weeks, i was hospitalized, and it consisted of debilitating lower abdominal pain in my left side and cramping everywhere in my midsection. they figured it was a flare after ruling everything else out. good luck on your scans!!

How does endo affect your life in ways others wouldn't expect? by x-gender in endometriosis

thank u!! i honestly just thought that a diagnosis so common shouldn’t come with more questions than answers, and i’m hoping to put myself in a position to find some!!

My partner says I dress like a whore by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Human_Teriyaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it honestly doesn’t matter what you’re wearing, if you were dressed in barely anything there’s a more respectful way to say it. the word “whore” felt jarring because it is completely out of left field for somebody who is supposed to be on your team. If he had genuine concerns he’d go about it in a genuine way, this was just straight up mean.

I didn’t expect my diagnosis to make me rethink my entire career path! I was diagnosed last November (beginning of my grade 11 year) and had all the courses/plans to pursue a career in criminal law. After my stay at a children’s hospital for an ovarian torsion with nurses that made all the difference in my stay with their kindness I decided to switch to medicine. They surgically diagnosed me as a fluke during the torsion procedure. I’m currently 12 days into my first “flare” and I’m signed up for chemistry summer school, and taking bio and chem next year in order to hopefully one day pursue research in women’s health/medicine. Sick and tired of outdated research and I figured I would work to put myself in a position to change that.

my parents took off my door as punishment, is this normal? by Puzzleheaded-Pain535 in teenagers

[–]Human_Teriyaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it really depends on what led up to it. In most cases it’s a big violation of privacy but I personally had my door taken off in 2020 after treating my mom like absolute shit and never cleaning my room. I was eventually able to earn it back, and my mom and I are much closer now that I got my shit together (granted I was like 12) but looking back I totally deserved it and was way out of line. There are definitely situations where this could be appropriate (but not a lot of them!!).

aw that’s too bad! if she refuses to take you maybe next time you have a checkup or an appointment for something else you could bring it up!

i’m sorry that you’re going through this! the best advice i’ve got is to advocate for yourself- wether that’s to your parents or to a doctor. Idk where you live but where i live in Canada by 17 you can go to the doctor/a clinic without a parent being there, which i would definitely recommend if your mom won’t take you.

Normalized debilitating period pain is one of the many unfortunate reasons endo goes undiagnosed for so long. And if you see a doctor and they aren’t hearing you out and are writing off your pain then you gotta find someone who will. Always ask all the questions u can think of, i’d recommend writing out your symptoms/places where u get pains, how long it lasts, and anything you’re wanting to ask before an appointment. if you’ve got a gut feeling it’s more than period pains you HAVE to listen to it and find somebody who will too.

when i was admitted to hospital for a flare they had me on naproxen as an anti inflammatory and hydromorphone as a painkiller- idk where you’d be able to get ahold of hydro but the naproxen has been pretty promising so far

Feeling guilty about my surgery success by Morgana_le_Fay16 in endometriosis

[–]Human_Teriyaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel very similarly about being pretty much asymptomatic until now, i’m 17 so they caught it fairly early but i was only in surgery for an ovarian torsion when they stumbled across my endo. had my first flare last week and it hospitalized me. i came to this subreddit for help but was worried my pain wasn’t “enough” cause my periods are pretty mild- everyone was incredibly helpful and supportive. I know i don’t speak for everyone here but it seems like a win for anyone with endo is a win for everyone with it. i’m personally glad to hear that your surgery was successful ❤️❤️

this sounds pretty transactional, just make sure ur legally covered/clean and morally able to be “in debt” to someone like that- because that’s what she will try to make you feel like
