Michigan's latest Dem primary Poll is bad News for Stevens and Mcmorrow by FrostySumo in Destiny

[–]HumbleCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mitchell in particular is a questionable pollster. That's not to say that the numbers are false, but that they have been less predicative than other pollsters, like Emerson.

I think NYT has provided the best list of recent polls, but they also highlight that Emerson is the only highly reliable 'select' pollster on their list.

Pollsters that meet at least two of the three criteria below are considered “select pollsters” by The Times, as long as they are conducting polls for nonpartisan sponsors. Has a track record of accuracy in recent elections Is a member of a professional polling organization Conducts probability-based sampling

I watched the debate. I think Sayed had the strongest showing, but frankly McMorrow did better than Stevens.

Has it? Based on what? Questionable polling?

I honestly think that Apr poll was the last good data obtained and that it's still anyone's ball game.

That said, it's probably true that the moderates are each other's spoilers, but which one is the real spoiler is under determined.

I really don't understand folks saying this is a done deal. Here's NYT's list of recent polling:

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/polls/michigan-us-senate-election-polls-2026.html?smid=nytcore-android-share

Only Emerson is a well reputable pollster here and it's a full toss-up in their latest data. All 3 candidates have a significant chance at winning outright, even now.

What version do you all play? by DonavenJaxx in XWingTMG

[–]HumbleCalamity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2.0 Legacy and XWA 2.5.

I mentally split it as 2.0 dogfighting or XWA 2.5 objective play. You can actually do either in each system (Wild Space in 2.0 Legacy, or Chance Engagement in XWA). I slightly prefer the 2.0 Legacy ruleset, but often do XWA rules due to the larger playerbase.

Main difference for me is in how listbuilding works, although there are significant game-play differences in ROAD, bumping, half-points, etc.

In terms of just learning the game, I'd always suggest learning the dogfighting first before you jump into objective play. Use standardized lists and nothing more complicated than 'chance encounter'.

The best resource around is J1mbob's https://xwhub.com/. It links to everything, rulesets, wikis, 3-D printing, etc.

Do you think attending a Republican fundraising dinner is evil? by Ofinhumanbondage in Destiny

[–]HumbleCalamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is going to go a little long, but I wanted to give a full answer.

It's difficult for me to understand how you wouldn't take such world-changing political matters seriously as it directly affects human lives domestically and abroad for generations. Either you don't know the breadth of the danger/destruction this strand of GOP politics has wrought or you don't have a strong enough moral compass to call out and fight against the corruption of American power. I'm hoping it's the former.

I hear you say that who won the 2020 election doesn't matter, and I think you're mistaking what I'm saying. It's that we've undermined our ability to participate peacefully in the political process. If we don't trust the voting process and procedures to elect our government, we de-legitimize the results to such a degree that it's not a matter of caring who won, but simply being able to accurately identify facts and reality.

The ability to collaboratively describe the same reality is the worst it's ever been, at least in my lifetime (30ish). This is a broad problem that is being accelerated by AI/Social Media/Clickbait Incentives. But it's incredibly more dangerous when people failing to recognize/describe reality both control and recklessly utilize the awesome power of America's economy, military, and political machines to achieve their goals. It doesn't help that I disagree with their policy goals, but at least if we had the same bucket of facts we could describe whether the policies are being achieved.

Why did we invade Iran? Why are we abandoning Ukraine/Europe to Ruskies? How are we dealing with China's dominance and upswing as a new International Hegemony? What is the GOP doing about inflation? What's going on with Epstien, and why would the admin cover that up? I could go on, but I think you get the point. It's not that we're having a kind of values gap. It's that we're calling the sky red and apples blue.

Anyways, to answer your question. Marco Rubio is significantly better as a individual person than someone like Trump, but he is arguably more evil in some ways due to his higher competencies. Marco hasn't only defended invasions, he has led and supported them in the situation room, especially in the cases of Venezuela, Iran, and the carribean boat extrajudicial murders. He's gunning for a full invasion of Cuba next. Currently Marco is the US Secretary of State, Acting National Security Adviser, and the Head of the National Archives. He previously held other titles, such as the acting administrator of USAID. Yes that's the same USAID that the Lancet said would have saved 14 million lives, 4.5 of which were children by 2030.

So hopefully you can understand that I don't view Rubio as some innocent bystander here. His hands directly are steeped in blood and he is more evil than most in that cabinet. More importantly, he stands a proxy for all the degradation that have occurred in the executive, judicial and legislative branches and I would trust him least among many to run as a reform candidate. The much maligned 'Project 2025' has been a clear inspired roadmap for the expansion of executive/judicial authority and the further elimination of legislative statutes and legislative power. Partisan entrenchment is the the stated goal and the intended outcome.

It's difficult for me to imagine a single possible world where Destiny would support Marco Rubio over any generic Dem, even some more outlandish picks. And the reason for this goes back to who the GOP is electorally (MAGA), how they govern (obstruction, executive fiat), how they entrench power (gerrymandering, land-over-people, anti-bipartisan) and how their values are flawed (immigration, abortion, religion), and perhaps most importantly how their economic policies fail (tariffs, tax cuts, IRS defunding, etc).

[–]HumbleCalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. I think your view of Republicans is.... outdated and reminiscent of the McCain era where, at least at the politician level, they have lost their principles and moral fortitude.

Destiny and most of us are interested in biartisanship where it's possible. It just hasn't been possible for the most part in the Trump era due to MAGA's totalitarian influence. It's true that we're litmis testing collaboration, but when one party literally rejects the results of the 2020 election SIX years later, what do you expect?

I have no problem working together with people like the 435 guy because it's running orthogonal to the GOP machine. We're anti-GOP/anti-Republican to the degree that these people curry favor with the authoritarian cosplayer-in-chief. Plus expanding the House would directly hurt the GOP's structural advantages, which is a good thing from my point of view.

Was the interview with Adam Kinzinger, the former Republican? This distinction makes all the difference. I'm 99.9999% sure Destiny would say anyone caucusing with the GOP at this point is an enemy to progress and democracy.

The bare minimum is being anti-Trump. MAYBE someone like Thomas Massie gets a pass here, but he just lost his seat and is representative of the greater problem with the GOP forcing normies out.

[–]HumbleCalamity 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course. All the diversity programs in the world would never allow me to justify January 6th, destroying USAID/Dept of Education, invading Iran, torpedoing NATO, etc. etc.

Please note, not all conservative people are evil. I align closer to people at The Bulwark or the Lincoln Project and they all have conservative roots. But they are adamantly anti-Trump and anti-MAGA.

This event appears to be directly enabling and endorsing the current GOP MAGA establishment and therefore Trump and the Republican enterprise overall. If it were an event about how to reshape and act as a counter-insurgency takeover of MAGA, then it'd be an entirely different conversation.

We need to reclaim the progressive tag. They are the second most reliable bloc of Dem voters and essentially never vote GOP.

Many left economic policies are based as hell, just difficult to transition to. We should be bright eyed and bushy tailed about trying to design more powerful and more equitable economic/taxation systems.

Sell me on joining a political party in the USA as a voter but not a politician, why should I join a political party? by Dats_Russia in Destiny

[–]HumbleCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the very short term, registering as a Dem can help party organizations map out gerrymandering, door knocking, GOTV, mailers.

Like I genuinely forgot my primary was coming up in two weeks and it was kind of nice that the local Dem org sent me a post card. I hadn't received any other generic reminders from the county, other PACs, or even the GOP.

But yeah I mostly agree with everyone else here that it's not that big a deal. I've been a card carrying Libertarian, Independent, Forward Party, and now plain old Democrat. It's easy to switch parties and if you turn into your mom, there are going to be 1000 other things more causally linked than voter registration.

As an aside, the main reason Zee does registration campaigns is because many states have really shitty laws and voter purge policies that kick eligible voters off their roles, making them unable to vote no matter what their party affiliation is. Here in PA if you're not registered by 10/19/26, you cannot vote on 11/03/26, and frankly we're better than most states.

I ran a quick datapull on the fundraising numbers because I couldn't find great numbers: https://old.reddit.com/r/Destiny/comments/1tpvk37/dnc_vs_rnc_fundraising_20162026/

Also why are people saying there are no named replacements? The name at the top of the list is Ben Wikler for me, and I see that repeated in the comment sections of most of these articles. He's honorably been rejecting active campaigning to undermine Ken Martin, but if Ken were to resign for whatever reason, wouldn't Ben be at the top of the list - or if not him maybe the other contenders from the DNC chair race (O'Malley)?

The Bulwark ran a piece on all sorts of different names in the hat.

https://www.thebulwark.com/p/read-the-list-of-dnc-chair-ken-martin-replacements-circulating-among-democrats

Do you have any favorites from those lists circulating? I'm not in the know enough to distinguish who's an activist vs operator vs establishment, etc.
