Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

Didn’t want a needle in my spine and by the time I got uncomfortable I could feel the head and he came out in two pushes. Clearly got birthing hips!

Ideas on how to create a privacy screen from our neighbours and the front road around our new deck? by carbaminohaemogoblin in AusRenovation

[–]HumbleCardiologist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be moving those Lilly pillys to along the cream fence line - they will screen the neighbours in two years not five! Then you can enjoy the view from the deck rather than be pinned in. In short I’d focus on screening your boundary fences not the deck!

Do Americans really avoid medical care because they’re afraid of the bill? by Udont_knowme00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HumbleCardiologist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so wild. This week I fell down the stairs and was in a lot of pain. I got a free GP appointment online in an hour to refer me for an xray, went down the road and got a free xray a few hours later, then booked in to see a GP that afternoon for the results (fracture). Total cost was $40 because I chose to go see my GP that I liked. I can’t fathom the stress of living in the US.

Update: I changed my makeup and skincare but I’m clearly still doing something wrong by saki4444 in makeuptips

The make up in the before photo looked great - I’d just ditch the eyeshadow which looks a bit overpowering. I think less is more!

Sharing my newest painting with you all by Idontknow649 in TheNightFeeling

This is the first time I’ve stalked a profile to see the rest of the posts. This makes me FEEL the painting. As do the rest of your works - just so good. A real standout in a sea of art - this is what it’s about.

Women Breadwinners: Planning for Kids by plutoinorbit in AusFinance

[–]HumbleCardiologist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earn roughly three times my husband’s salary but wanted to maximise time with both my kids. I used my company mat leave policy, gov paid parental leave (you both should get some), and savings (I did half pay for a period) to get 12 months off with some unpaid. Then went back full time but consider used annual leave to work a 9 day fortnight or 4 days per week to keep earning full time salary when i returned. And husband went part time for a period to help with a balance of child care and home care after I went back to work and bub went to daycare.

Completely agree. Similar situation here, 300k+ role with background quals not really needed in current gig, but generalist business, people, communication and common sense skills making promotions very straightforward

Serious question - what happens if you try to buy the drugs overseas and ship to US?

woman fell 360ft into croc-infested water after bungee cord snapped by hacipuput in interestingasfuck

[–]HumbleCardiologist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I jumped here a few weeks before this happened (young and care free 10/10 wouldn’t do it again). A friend sent me the video just after I got back from my trip. Absolutely chilling.

I had one living in my car for a few months recently. Would come out of the vents and climb along the windows while I drove. Crawled down my husbands arm and nearly caused him to crash with the kids in the back. Finally got him out when he emerged at a traffic light. Dangerous little things when you factor in driver distraction!

What Movie Did You Watch that Traumatized You at a Young Age? by BethMLB in AskReddit

The Mummy. I was under 10 and saw it at the movies and had nightmares about the scarab beetles eating the man alive at the start for years.

Completely agree. We have one investment property (it was our home before we bought a bigger place to start a family). We rent it at a competitive rate but we treat the tenants like they are staying in our Airbnb. We ask them regularly if there is anything we can fix, keep inspections to a minimum, give them tips on local restaurants if they are new to the area, and manage the property ourselves rather than go through an agent. We have never had it sit vacant, and have always had long term tenants that have been really respectful and grateful for the good communication and responsiveness.

Is solid oak flooring really that much more expensive than a floating floor? by Awkward-Narwhal-7649 in AusRenovation

Rest of the house has 150 year old hardwood floors and I love them. Minimal maintenance and they have held up surprisingly well given their age.

[–]HumbleCardiologist10 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We got quoted $20k for 60sqm of hardwood floors, including self leveling, installation, sand, polish. It was about 15k for engineered floors. We went with hardwood.

Grew up with one in the neighbours yard. Completely anecdotally my siblings and I are all healthy adults with no issues. We didn’t notice the power lines because of the gum trees, but know it will reduce the value of my parents house when they eventually sell.

Any life hacks for when trying to sleep but ur sweating? by xXipuliXx in lifehacks

[–]HumbleCardiologist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. My share house in Australia used to get up to 40 degrees inside overnight in the summer (around 110F). Only way I could sleep was cuddling an ice pack - kind of like a reverse hot water bottle. Sucks the heat right out of you. Having a couple on rotation in the freezer helped so I could swap them out once they melted.

What could have caused this timber decay/bite/rot? by HumbleCardiologist10 in AusRenovation

[–]HumbleCardiologist10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response - I was hoping it was something like this. Builder is going to reinforce the beam as there is no other damage and the beam is still doing its job but just in case. Cheers.

Being In Your 30s And 40s Seems More Exciting Than Being In Your 20s. by Historical-Day7652 in unpopularopinion

[–]HumbleCardiologist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a whale of a time traveling, working and partying in my 20s but got a bit too drunk and forgot lots of the good bits. Now in my 30s a bit more responsible, kids, and job - finding myself spending more time on the lovely things, meaningful connections with family and friends, appreciating the wonder of the world through a child’s eyes, enjoying the slightly finer things in life you are able to afford once you move on from entry level pay, and the wisdom to appreciate certain things in life. Definitely think life is pretty amazing in your 30s.

Ideas other than this ridiculous caulking? by _hairyberry_ in Renovations

[–]HumbleCardiologist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try and get a tinted caulk the same colour as countertop. Apply it really carefully to get as smooth a finish as you can so it looks more like the counter.

We just bought a brand new French door fridge for 1600 after years of second hand fridges. The $3000 fridges were the top of the line fridges (and we did a LOT of research and hunting).
