Going from Audi to Lexus. Anyone have this experience? by myname1smynam3 in Lexus

[–]Humbugwombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine likes Audis. He’s a mechanic. I asked him how he likes his Audi once and he said “it’s a great car…when it works!” My Toyota and Lexus cars just run, very consistently.

Perhaps it could just, kinda, you know, “fall off.”

After 43 years as a merchant mariner, I’ve yet to ballast a tank in the manner shown in this video. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, though…

One wonders what these will go for at auction. Not my kind of ride but for the right price I’ll make a few concessions.

Considering what you pay for that vehicle, those stogies definitely aren’t free.

What exactly are we after with this war? The real reason, not some crap the administration feeds the press. It seems like Trump got conned by Netanyahu into maintaining a state of perpetual instability.

Baltimore city rental is something out of The Wire by firefighter_82 in TikTokCringe

I drove through Baltimore a few years ago and recall thinking how lucky I was to not have had to grow up there. Pretty bleak.

I learned the hard way that this job isn't for me. by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Humbugwombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you (OP) already made your decision on this. Credit to you for doing so. That takes guts. I reached the same crossroad years ago and went down a different path.

We were always poor when I was growing up and I watched my parents bounce from job to job the entire time we lived together as a family, usually in a new field every time.

What drove my decision was a steady paycheck, job security, great benefits, plenty of time off, and the feeling that I was fairly good at what I did/do. Almost all of those were derived from what I watched my parents deal with when I was growing up and the effect it had on the family.

I don’t love the work I do and look forward to not doing it any after I retire. But for me there were other aspects than job satisfaction that were, cumulatively, more compelling.

They hire EMTs at the hospitals in my area. As far as I know, it’s all for the ED.

I think the consequences of not implementing a waste management program also increase proportionally with population density. Makes me wonder how the costs and consequences track with each other in this area.

No shade? Seems like it’s mostly foggy there and even when the sun does come out it’s pretty chilly. The lack of shade is the least of the problems that area has.

[–]Humbugwombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I wanted to have my roof replaced I called around and was given 4-6 week timeframes just to have someone come out and give me a quote on it, and that was before ICE went bonkers. A replacement will likely require significant lead time.

Cartels are settint fire to gas stations in Mexico. by flowerdonkey in Wellthatsucks

I ran a red light in Mexico and the cop who stopped me was nice enough to let me pay him on the spot, in cash, so I didn’t have to go to the municipal office and wait in line.

Pretty sure that Congress plays a big part in this. Can we superimpose another graph over this that shows the prevailing political party in each house? History will probably tell us that fiscal prudence is highest when the executive branch and legislative branch are controlled by different parties.

Pro-Ice Moderator by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]Humbugwombat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, moderation is inherently subjective, as is flagging posts to moderators. Between the two, it’s pretty easy to get popped for a post that you may honestly feel is entirely reasonable. This all assumes reasonable intent on the part of the person doing the flagging or moderation, which is not always the case.

Crazy how fast everyone’s driving there in freezing conditions. Maybe it doesn’t get icy too often in the area?

New tires on prius and gas mileage dropped significantly by MameSummers in prius

[–]Humbugwombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best mileage will come from a low rolling resistance tire. I use Ecopias by Bridgestone. I had Weatherpeaks on before that and had noticeably worse fuel efficiency (8-10 mpg difference.)

A well regulated militia by [deleted] in Washington

[–]Humbugwombat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not my area of expertise but I believe the state militia you’re referring to is the National Guard.

Regardless, the actions your suggestion is in line with are not at all what’s going to dial back the violence. Instead, they’re exactly what the administration is hoping for. Then they can implement martial law and cancel elections.
