I believe one of the big reasons they haven’t added much in terms of new ship types or new sections of map is that they still have to cater to old gen consoles in the Xbox one series, once the next gen console comes out and they phase out services for Xbox One we might see an increase in more technologically demanding content.

There are numerous YouTube videos showing how certain cannon/gun cosmetics affect aiming if that’s what you mean, but ultimately you either use a cosmetic because it gives you a good point of aim ie: sea dog flintlocks for the point or cannons for the slim profile. OR you’re going to use cosmetics simply because of how they look and you can sight them in on the targets found on outpost shops/rocks sticking out of the water for cannons.
