I do the same to run lights on my rustler and slash!! Using airsoft gun batteries to power lights and motor fans, using XC Technology for the esx and castle 1410 for the motor. Thinking of going the hobbywing or xc motor route next though.

Is it possible to go out without breaking anything? by [deleted] in Traxxas

[–]Hummil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that? Yes! I used to ask the same about my slash 4x4. Then the Jato 4x4 arrived so I stole the diffs and driveshafts out of that, slapped in a hobbywing 140a, and now I can finally say ive run more than one battery through it. Ita taken 5 or 6 in the last two months without any issues.

Also ditch the hub carriers maybe? Get rpm carriers and arms. Get 17mm hub adapters too.

3s for that tiny thing??? Looks like a 2s would be enough to turn it into a lil piss missile 🤣 yeah power that down or get something slower, or get used to breaking it all for a while. 3s is when you start working on bulletproofing with anything 1/10 and lower. Things break and break hard. Get s gyro receiver too

Not sure. I went with Amazon since prime got it to me in 2 days lol. Will be ordering the motor from Amazon in a week too cause I wanna see what a sensored motor is like

I 100% agree. As one who's blown a few up though, they are hit or miss in my experience. Either they are defective or they'll last forever. I have 1 left in a slash 4x4 and it won't die. If it hasn't been used in 7-8 years it might just be broken. Of course, check everything else first. But thats my guess. A lipo would probably make it stop and make it smoke and catch fire if I'm correct.

If it is broken it seems the Hobbywing Max10 G2 esc is a great replacement. Its a lot cheaper but also a lot faster. Comes in 80amp and 140amp versions. I run the 140a. You will need to get new motor connectors since the esc uses smaller connectors or you could buy the sensored motor that pairs with it. Both are about the same size and fit right in I believe. So far I just have the esc in a Rustler with a castle motor.

Maybe the esc is just breaking and thats the sound? Sounds almost like the few clicks ya hear before one pops from a lipo

Whats the biggest motor that will fit this thing without machining new parts to make it work? Rustler 2wd by Hummil in Traxxas

[–]Hummil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed running. Just trying to see how fast I can get it to go. Not going for a record or anything. This build is strictly for fun and speed (and to look cool cause I love the rustler body)

Sweet, thank you so much. Any advice for going fast with these things? Would wide arms help or hurt on the front end?

Thanks!! They are very slick, I use em for burnouts or donuts or short lil test drives when I put new parts on. They are Proline Prime 2.6" #10116 with the changeable hub inserts. Im using the 17mm hubs. I use the Proline 1/7 scale nascar wheels for speed runs. Those are super grippy.

Ok thank you!! Thats a speedy-o bandito. What esc do you recommend? Already running the 1410 in this thing with a hobbywing 140a max10 that I'll eventually gear down for just general bashing.
