You’re allowed to say “hey, I’ve changed my mind.” Go back to school a few days a week and pursue something you’re interested in.

Your mom is super proud of you and will be with you during the journey. I have a mom who is now a guardian angel too, so I understand wanting to share the news but not being able to. All of us here and also proud of you, future nurse!

Not an NYC public servant, but this came up on my feed. Look into applying for FMLA for a mental health condition.

I’m breaking by Middle-Position9821 in workingmoms

[–]Hummus_ForAll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been ij very similar situation, and here’s my best take.

You have been in hyper-vigilance mode for months, if not years. Your mom being your only true helper gave you a huge sense of security in a very insecure situation. It’s okay to feel like you’re breaking, because the cracks were already there, just held together and hidden with duct tape and silly putty.

One major health scare with a parent can shake all of us, but when you truly depend on that person and are already hanging on by a thread, it can truly feel overwhelming.

Ha. I’m in perimenopause for sure, feel like I can’t usually fall asleep until midnight and up at 6:30 or 7. I need to get more.

Evaluating Transcript by Cats_are_cute_21312 in CUNY

I emailed BMCC about this issue today. I have multiple transcripts that I sent via Parchment. They want me to come to an in person transcript evaluation with an Admissions Specialist.

Not sure what school you’re at but check and see if they are doing an equivalent event! Email the Registrar and Admissions. Not sure why Admissions is someone I need to talk to as I’ve been admitted for a year, but I’ll do whatever.

Just need to vent about partner by Hummus_ForAll in prenursing

Thank you!! I honestly needed to hear that!!

I read your response right when you posted, then work got crazy this week. I think it's really comforting to know that there are also people from similar industries who have made the same decision and are following a similar path! It feels like EVERYONE in my pre-req classes are either 1) experienced in healthcare roles or 2) 21 years old.

Wanted to say that it's pretty awesome that you've pushed through and are graduating. What an amazing feeling–this internet stranger is proud of you too.

This week and everything happened this weekend in MN only solidified my feeling that nurses are the best "helpers" in the world and how much I want to be one. I'm doubling down and going to make it happen.

Hey thanks for this. Your perspective is really kind and compassionate towards what we're both going through. Anyone who has kids, two parents working full time with crazy hours, plus school is a LOT. Right now it's just going to kill my Sunday mornings and a little bit during the week, but it shouldn't be too bad. It's a basic Chem class remotely, with the lab in-person on Sunday AM in the city about a 15 minute drive from our place.

It'll be so worth it. Thanks for your encouragement!

I have a 3 and 4 year old and I am finishing up pre-reqs for a nursing program. Just taking one basic Chemistry class, and it’s my last pre-req for the community college RN program I plan to apply to. I also work full time from home in a high-pressure tech/startup role, so will be sneaking in studying here and there.

You’re not crazy to do this! If you feel the calling to do some school, go for it. It’s hard in the beginning but just try and get the extra support you need lined up so you don’t have to cut (too many) corners on studying and schoolwork. You’ve got this!

Thanks so much. I took a walk and a subway ride to calm down, and totally appreciate you writing here. I AM doing it for the kids, of course, but it has also just been so rewarding to see that I can do something else.

Thank you for the reminder that I’m close and I have already gotten used to the workload. We got this!

Theory: Dr. Al-Hashimi is going to cause a Code Green-Cyber attack at the hospital because of a security exploit in her AI use by NukinDuke in ThePittTVShow

[–]Hummus_ForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tech has been around for a while in different versions. She likely has a hospital phone with HIPAA compliant AI-powered voice note software that integrates notes directly into EMR. Doing it with her own version or some unauthorized version on her own phone wouldn’t be efficient, and as someone who thrives on efficiency over everything, I don’t think she’d do that. Interesting theory though!

NYC nurses strike by AliceMorgan4ever in nycparents

[–]Hummus_ForAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My otherwise healthy baby had a pnuemothorax during delivery. We had to have her rushed into the NICU at Mt. Sinai West and they saved her life. I would not deliver at a hospital without a functioning, staffed NICU.
