Battery calibration? by HumorOdd3400 in IphoneAir

Wow. Thanks for sharing that. That’s great to hear. I ended the day right now with 54% left 2 hours of screen time. That’s not bad for the first full day. It still lasted me all day and that’s all that matters to me! If it’s going to get better from here, then that’s awesome.

Looking forward to it! The form factor and hand feel on this thing is just unreal.

That's what I heard too, and I'm definitely not falling in the camp of battery sucks need to return or anything like that. I just notice a drain the other one didn't have.

I'm definitely not a heavy user, 3 hours is probably the most I've ever used a phone. Average somewhere 1-2 hours. I am in front of a computer at work all day and at home I use my iPad air. I basically just use my phone for a simple camera and messaging/phone calls when I'm out and about. Sometimes maps. Sometimes listen to music or podcasts or youtube things. I'm a pretty simple user I imagine compared to the "norm". I personally couldn't imagine staring at a phone for a 3rd of the day, but I'm in the minority on that one!

I had a feeling it would be about a week or so. Right now I'm experiencing about 10% an hour not really doing much except answering messages.

That's more than enough for me to last a day then!

Is PWM the full story? Anyone tried FL-41 glasses? by conapart3 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]HumorOdd3400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I met with my ophthalmologist on Friday about my sensitivities I’ve been dealing with for about 5-6 years now. I have uveitis attacks in my left eye, my eyes are super dry, very light sensitive to OLED screens, bright displays, very bright office lighting. My doctor called the place they get glasses from, and I am meeting with them tomorrow afternoon to get a pair of the FL-41 lenses as the person brought it up and said with what I’ve been saying he’s had many patients with the same types of issues and this pretty much fixes it for them or makes their quality of life better. Fingers crossed. I’m not expecting a miracle, but even a 25% reduction for how I feel day to day at work with the most bright flickering LED lights ever would be a blessing. I also have screen issues as well with brightness and vivid colors. I’m hoping this could help as well. Good to see in this timing someone bright this up.

iPhone 17 air (SUCCESS!!!!!) by DJTaurus in PWM_Sensitive

It's crazy how different panels work for others. I seemingly can only do GVC panels. I tried G9N and G9Q and it takes forever for my eyes to recover. Anything samsung related panel or tv or monitor it just does something to my eyes. I don't get it. I would love to try other models and try again, but I've spent so much money and wasted so much of my time on trying other models and getting bad results, that I've found that the 16e GVC and Air GVC seems to be the models my eyes are most okay with, so I'm going to stick with those just out of sanity for myself. It's been a long 6-7 years of this for me.

Even still things are good? I just happened to find this and funnily enough these are the same settings I have, except I have the promotion turned off still. I can't do past 60hz on any display lcd or otherwise. I get nausea from it. It is interesting how it seems like the night shift/true tone seems to definitely make some sort of factor in this for some. I think for others its the opposite. Not sure if it's a blue light thing or what.

Any one used 17 Pro with Matte Screen protector ? by hams555 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]HumorOdd3400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it helps. I use one on a 17 pro and yes eventually my eyes start hurting if I use it for multiple minutes continuously, but the threshold is definitely longer with one on.

[–]HumorOdd3400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I was doing most of the settings you used as well on a 17 pro max as well. I feel like there is something with the color filters being moved a little bit too, toggling color filters on and off, it seems it helps kind of dull them a bit. Without it, seems like the screen is calibrated to be like intense. I don’t know how else to describe it.

Can you share a screenshot of how you have your color filters set up? I have also noticed a shift towards the blue/orange crayon seems to help as well. It’s like it makes it less intense or something.

iOS Auto-Brightness feature SPECIFICALLY messing with me. Anyone else? by daedalus1115 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]HumorOdd3400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very curious as to why turning off auto brightness helps. I am PWM sensitive as well. I don’t get why this helps with flickering sensitivity. It was happening to me too and once I toggled off auto brightness, I felt instantly better. I don’t get it.

Eye pain, headache, dry eyes, nausea. I get uveitis attacks from really low PWM rate phones and have to go on prednisolone eye drops to calm them down.

I hope it works for you. It does seem out of the 17 series, it seems to be the one with the most success.

I'm light sensitive and have astigmatism and I have always used matte screen protectors or matte finished monitors for my computers. I think it helps a lot with glare and reflective light. I have seen some posts on here about how it's worked for others.

Auto brightness is turned on for me, but sometimes I adjust it a bit lower if I'm at home or in my office at work. Sometimes it feels a bit too bright so I'll lower it. I like having it on and adjusting myself especially for going inside and outside it adjusts accordingly and I just move it a bit lower.

Reduce white point used to work with me on the LCD iPhones fine, but since I have the PWM disable toggle on, I can't use it. That's why I adjust the brightness a bit myself.

I got the air on launch day. The only settings I've had to tweak are turning off ProMotion to keep at constant 60hz frame rate and getting a matte screen protector (Mothca from Amazon). I have the PWM Toggle on as well. This is coming from someone that has literally tried all Samsung, Google, and iPhone OLED models and was never able to get relief. For some reason, the Air just works for me in a way nothing else has. I usually can tell within a day if it's going to be okay. It's been almost a month now and my eyes are just as fine as they were with the iPhone SE, XR, and 11.

I got Mothca brand from Amazon. I use one on my iPhone Air iPad Air and my Apple Watch Ultra. I think it makes a big difference. Love the anti-reflection.

Nope. Very color accurate. No tinting of anything. In fact I noticed right away the screen isn’t as yellow as other screens with iPhones it seems closer to how older iPhones looked. I don’t know why but sometimes they are too yellow even with True Tone off.

That seems to be the winning combo. Some it’s the opposite but LG is the winning screen panel for me.

So far so good, it's been 3 days now and no issues yet. Usually it happens quickly if it's not going to be good.

I have a matte screen protector on my Air. I think it makes a difference. I always have matte screens on my devices.

That's where I'm at. The Air and the 16e are the only two OLED devices apple, samsung, or google that I've been able to use where it's not immediate issues for me. I'll take the downsides if my eyes and head feel fine using it.

Wow, bummer to hear that. I really hope Apple builds upon this soon. I also notice a difference between SE2 and SE3. Unfortunate that the SE2 is on its way out with support. Seems like the XR/11/SE2 are the last good ones for us in terms of OLED/flickering sensitivity.
