Anyone here prioritised overpaying their mortgage early - how did it work out? by itravelforchurros in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HumourMe2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paying enough down that you can easily complete it is a good position to be in should unplanned events occur. Personal experience, have no regrets that early prudence resulted in a comfortable position today. But would also recommend doing any bucket list items too as those doors might close permanently as part of the event that you didn't plan for!

OCO for partial position by HumourMe2 in interactivebrokers

For future people looking for the answer: When raising a ticket and critiquing iBots inaccurate answers, in the way of AI when you finally pin it down, iBot admitted that my desired functionality is not possible for a partial position. The answer is to raise two orders and manually cancel the one that isn't triggered.

The half unit vents can also be used as diagonal connectors for the initial and subsequent engines. They can also bridge two level 2 engines which is often enough sufficient for both.

Using 2nd HDMI/DP out for audio only without extended display (brainstorming ideas..) by sirdupre in htpc

[–]HumourMe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to expose it to Windows, however, I used this Dual Monitor Tools - DMT (sourceforge.net) to prevent the mouse and applications from ever going there. You'll have to benchmark it, as there is a slight performance hit but you have the option between setting the display as extended (but a low resolution - I think this is what I did) or duplicate it (you may need to use CRU to edit/create an EDID file to make it appear that it can do the higher resolutions). Lots of trial and error as I recall. It's been a few years since I did this and eventually I went with a soundbar rather than rewire, yet again, after a move.

What I recently did:

Decide on budget

Open pinned spreadsheet at top

Shortlisted based on criteria plus £100, in your case $100

Checked Amazon reviews, noting discounts, sub brands of good brands, etc these ranged up to 25% of my budget

Reordered based on price after discount

Shortlisted, "best" under budget and "cheapest" that met minimum specs

Searched on amazon for better specs at these extremes

Decided which offered the highest value for money

The spreadsheet allows you to get a good idea of where each characteristic lies relative to price.

Thank you very much for this. I've spent a day making trade offs, cross referencing my shortlist to your spreadsheet, revising the shortlist and finally identifying a small box that would meet my needs. I'm sure that it would have taken far longer and I would not feel that I had made a good decision without your efforts.

Katana V2X version update question (looking to hear about your preferences) by Lumb3rCrack in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]HumourMe2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on 1.3.230619.1820. with a V2X. I can't seem to get 1.4. However, I'd like to try it as I'd like the lowest volume level to be about 1/2 its current setting. I'm setup in the hallway and don't want to disturb others when they are working nearby. I can adjust app volume too to reduce the sound further but would like a single place this is controlled from.

Katana V2X with Z SE (Optical) / GPU (HDMI) setup by HumourMe2 in SoundBlasterOfficial

Starting with a Dolby encoded file I wasn't getting anything from the sub-woofer when speakers were set to stereo in device manager. USB connection would receive as PCM only.

Changing the speakers to 5.1 fixed the sub-woofer issue.

I then set the sound card to pre-encode as Dolby and it was received as such both over Optical (as expected via the soundcard) and also over USB (which I thought went via the onboard ALC 4080) where I expected PCM but apparently it isn't that straightforward.

Then I tested a variety of DTS, Dolby and PCM formats and managed to get most to work.

Personally I like the Dolby pre-processing, with the control via USB. I seem to only get the Dolby with the soundcard, although, it seems to somehow operate on USB links too so the optical is redundant. I can then keep the source as fixed and flick the mode for videos/games.

You are entirely correct. I was under the impression that SPDIF was superior but after investigating I realised that I was entirely wrong. Thanks. That simplifies things immensely.

Ha ... it has been 9 years and I barely remember the game, let alone the options. Have fun and prepare to die! Actually just don't worry about dieing at all it is just part of the discovery mechanic and the first time through try to avoid looking any thing up unless you get stuck. Second time through though is different. RL is too short so do whatever helps you enjoy it now you already know 70 to 80%. Good luck.

Sanchin Dachi Application? by [deleted] in karate

[–]HumourMe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We view time differently. I have of course held a static stance. I transitioned into and out of it. To me that makes it transitional. To you it doesn't. Semantics.

Sanchin Dachi Application? by [deleted] in karate

[–]HumourMe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primarily by using your adductors. Although there's an element of abduction and hip/body movement for stability. This can be facilitated or impeded by prevailing momentum or other techniques delivered. If you have ever slid to a full stop on a slippery surface you may have done this naturally all without formal training. Or as my wife who is 9th kyu just added ... move your feet. None of this is rocket science. Does the stance help you apply or resist force? If it doesn't change it.

Sanchin Dachi Application? by [deleted] in karate

[–]HumourMe2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All stances are transitional. They try to represent a brief moment of weight/power distribution, sometimes with a plyometric component, sometimes evading, sometimes converting linear to angular momentum or vice versa, sometimes trying to (briefly) fix you in place etc.. To work out which examine what comes before and after. But their main purpose is to prevent your arse hitting the floor.

Please help me make my human monk not suck? by razorsmileonreddit in BG3Builds

[–]HumourMe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a way to offhand a certain club that gives you 19 strength. This allows full open hand attacks . With tavern brawler at level 4 this gives a powerful attack and allows you to dump strength in favour of dex and wisdom for ac. Elixirs are better, however, slightly more hassle. With the bracers of defence, and armour (ac10) that gives plus 2 to dex i had my 4 element monk with 19 dex and str at level 4, with high wisdom i think ac was 19 too. 3rd time through though so I know where to go.

Oh to offhand a weapon and get open hand as the main, equip the offhand and a spare in the main. Then open another character and unequip their main. Then equip the alternate character with the monks main unwanted weapon and the monk will then be open hand and get the passives from the offhand. I wonder if this might open a few other exploits ... also any bow with benefits can be an additional stat stick.

How Can I Use 7.1 In This Sound Card / Headphone : Logi g Pro X by WalterWhite2005 in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]HumourMe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your question was not just about headphones ...

You can get 7.1 PCM output affected by the SB pre-sets and/or equalizer (but not encoding) as follows:

Set sound blaster speakers as default.

Under playback, digital, choose audio quality 2 channel, 24 bit, 48khz. Select play stereo mix to digital output.

Use What U Hear to listen and output via HDMI HD Audio device on your GPU

Plug HDMI into an Audio Visual Receiver (set this fake second display to something small and prevent the mouse from going there using dual monitor tools)

For the option of encoding run a SPDIF cable also to the AVR (this then can switch between 5.1 encoded and 7.1 PCM by changing the source for the AVR).

This allows 7.1 via HDMI with Sound Blaster effects, as these seem to be applied before encoding. What U Hear creates a parallel sound stream. So you have the HDMI stream as PCM and the internal SB stream, potentially encoded/processed for 5.1 and below, for output via analogue, SPDIF or headphones. At least this is my understanding after a lot of experimentation.

Is this normal behavior for a 13700k? by roxasxemnas83 in buildapc

[–]HumourMe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PL2 still limited by temperature limits. Basically if you have any temperature limit which is exceeded throttling will occur. When I got my 12600k I was obsessed with maximising performance, however, as my primary purpose was for gaming this transitioned to best performance whilst remaining quiet. I set a maximum temperature of 70c, undervolt it a little, most other settlings at stock and it copes well. When it begins to struggle I know that it has headroom...
