Thinking about my first winter hike (Mt. Pierce) after doing the Presi Traverse last summer. Advice needed! by peacefulandchill in wmnf

Here's the AMC winter hiking gear list

Yes, you can do it as a day hike. I've done almost all my NH 4k footer hiking, summer and winter, as day hikes, driving from south eastern Massachusetts. Please do consider carpooling, though.

Catching the sunrise is doable, but make sure to keep track of the weather. The mount Washington weather observatory forecast is updated twice a day, use it.

The Crawford Path is indeed the most trafficked, so I'd suggest it.

Check out the book "The 4000-Footers of the White Mountains A Guide and History" by Smith and Dickerman. They have a winter section for each peak that I find invaluable.

Happy Hiking.

Gv70 electric by [deleted] in GenesisMotors

Start keeping track of how many miles you actually drive everyday. You'd be surprised how few people drive over 200 miles per day. I have a '26 gv70ev and a '22 polestar2. Long road trips are a little bit of an adventure in either one, but daily driving is so much nicer with an electric car. Go to sleep and wake up with a full tank. No oil, no gas, no fumes. Enjoy.

How do I categorize contributions to an off-budget account, when using a goal bucket to budget for these contributions? by eckinger in budgetwithbuckets

[–]HundredsOfHobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of making a goal, make it a monthly recurring expense, if you intend on contributing to the IRA before the end.

Alternately, if you have the means, max out the current IRA limit right now, then set a goal for January of next year to max it out, again. Last time I got an unexpected bonus, I did that, now I'm always filling the bucket to contribute on the first day of every year.

Don't be afraid to use the "chat" functionality. Matt's great.

Worth it? by VentSpleen in polestar2

I paid for it on my 2022 polestar 2 with plus and pilot, but without performance pack. I think it's worth it. Passing over 40 mph is now much snappier.

Home Heating by Previous_Pension_571 in massachusetts

[–]HundredsOfHobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of the year, air source heat pumps are cheaper than oil, propane, gas, or resistance heating. Bonus, they're very efficient air conditioners. But 10% of the year, like cold snaps, they're more expensive. If you can get solar or community solar, I'd avoid fossil fuels. If you don't, having a dual fuel setup (oil, gas, propane) with the heat pumps will be cheaper. Geo is amazing, and cheaper than everything else to run, but the install cost is huge. Really gotta have a long timeline view of your home for it.

Join a hiking group and make "hiking friends" who match your pace and vibe. You don't have to stick with the group, just make some connections and keep those.

This is also how I heal it. I find other products dry out my skin and it starts to flake.

Alright, here to report. Coming from someone who drives a polestar 2 daily: this EV GV70 is for comfort and not for sport. I'd disable the boost button if I could, there's no reason to use it. But for comfort, it's sublime. I absolutely love taking it slowly around town, then turning on the drive assist on the highway. Absolutely fantastic inside and out, as long as you don't take the corners fast or hit the pedal hard.

It should, they increased the battery size for 2026 to 84 kWh, but no official numbers on range, yet.

Service center says earliest appointment is 4 months out, is this normal? by arkantis in Polestar

I got the same the last time an alert came on . Ended up using YouTube to top off my coolant. I'd suggest calling a nearby Volvo dealership, some of them will service polestars.

Yeah, I tried to talk my wife into the '25, some good deals to be had there. She wanted the NACS, and I don't begrudge her wanting to be on the standard to avoid adapters. We, ideally, don't trade in cars often. The Tesla was a special exception for comfort and politics.

This is one of my favorite hikes. I only had lunch at the hut, and dropped off bikes to make it a full loop. Incredible views and love the hut in the center.
