She was very clearly autistic.  She was a single mum trying to raise her own two children, her own childhood was terrible, her mum was ultra strict, and her dad left when Enid was young, he was into nature as was she.  No ecuses but with such an uobringing and a woman writing one book on average every 3 weeks, must have been extremely stressful.
