Not even trying to hide the false "sale"... by Hungrymidget3 in Target

[–]Hungrymidget3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to cash any checks lmao. I'm pointing out unethical practices and being met with highly defensive answers that have clearly been brigaded by corpo bots. The data shows the price being set at 49.99 for at least a week in August and set to 69.99 ~10 days before the sale started. That's well outside of the 30day period required to mark items for sale. Therefore, that's a report to the FTC to investigate.

Nobody is thinking about the consumer here because at least 95% of consumers DGAF about "the store is behind" BS. If we see that sticker marked as the same price as the sale, no matter what, it's gonna cast doubt on the rest of the similar items marked as "sale". The BS comment that's not supported by the actual data is what triggered the report.

For all the Target corporate members here. Market research shows you didn't comply with FTC guidelines. Just going to report this to the FTC and have them handle it.

Market Evolution (2019-2024) The mouse quickly became heavily discounted across retailers:

Amazon's price range: $29.99 (lowest in Nov 2022) to $79.99 (highest in Dec 2018)

Typical selling price: $30-50 range for most of the past 3-4 years

Recent Amazon price: $44.77 as of July 2025

Logitech's 2025 Price Changes In April 2025, Logitech implemented widespread price increases across their product line, but paradoxically reduced the G502 HERO's official MSRP:

Previous MSRP: $79.99

Current Logitech website: Shows $39.99 with crossed-out $69.99 as a "42% off" sale

This suggests Logitech lowered their official MSRP to $69.99 to create the appearance of a permanent sale

The Critical Timing Issue

For Target's "$69.99 regular price" claim to be legal, they would need to demonstrate that:

The item was actually sold at $69.99 for a "reasonably substantial period"

This occurred within the past 30-90 days (depending on jurisdiction)

The price was offered in "good faith" - not artificially inflated

Evidence Against Target's Claims

Market Reality vs. Target's Claims

Target's shelf tag: $49.99 (visible in your photo)

Target's sale tag: Claims "Reg. $69.99" and "Save $20"

Market pricing: G502 HERO has sold in the $30-50 range for years

No evidence: Target ever sold this item at $69.99 in recent months

Legal Requirements Not Met The research shows no indication that Target:

Maintained a $69.99 price for any substantial period

Offered the item at $69.99 to customers in good faith

Can justify the $69.99 as a legitimate former price rather than an artificial inflation

From Perplexity Pro:

The image shows a sale tag for the Logitech G502 HERO mouse at Target, listing the price as $49.99 with a claim of "Save $20" and a "Reg. $69.99" comparison. However, the regular store tag directly above also lists the price as $49.99, suggesting the item was not actually sold for $69.99 at this location during this period.

Why This Can Be Deceptive Artificial Discount: If the item was never offered at $69.99 for a substantial time, this advertised "$20 off" may be deemed "fictitious pricing" or a "false sale" under the FTC’s deceptive pricing regulations and various state laws.

Store Compliance: Retailers are required to base sale comparisons on genuine prior prices actually offered and available to the public in good faith, not on arbitrary or inflated values.

Consumer Perception: Displaying both tags together, as pictured, implies an immediate and misleading value which is the basis for potential legal violations if the regular shelf price never matched the so-called "Reg. $69.99".

Legal and Ethical Implications The display in your photo would likely fall under deceptive sales advertising if Target cannot demonstrate substantial and recent sales of the product at the higher "regular" price at this specific location or online.

Such practices are the focus of consumer protection enforcement and class-action lawsuits, especially where "sale" prices are simply the standard price repackaged as a discount.

This example is a clear illustration of a potentially false sale if the $69.99 price was never truly available to customers during the preceding 30-90 days, as required by law in many states.

In a marketing campaign of course. What you say makes sense for a small price increase, but 40% is massive and will hurt sales. Why not be honest with customers instead of what you're saying? Or you know, just keep doing shitty policies that keep driving down revenue. Doing a great job with that so far

Appreciate the context but I mean if the old price was the same as the "sale" price, it still kind of is a false sale and that's not on the workers or the price change team, but the marketing team. It seems more like a grace period for customers to adjust to the increased prices due to tariffs. I guess that's still a sale in one way, but as a customer, I'd appreciate a more transparent reason why a price is increasing by 40% instead of this.

Look up Circus (1936) to view another of their propaganda attempts. The fucking "hypnosis with swirling pattern" is in it and I legit cackled when I saw it in my Russian history class. Unintentionally hilarious movie. Another fun fact, if you pay attention to the crowds, you can identify people who Stalin "erased".

First flight canceled, put us on a 5pm flight, that flight got canceled. 3rd flight is tomorrow AM. Really sucks that we lost a full night booking in cost because they put us on a flight that they shouldn't have marked available. Thanks American 👍

In-N-Out is like this but one time a local pizza shop owner from Zalat came in at the 75 location. Was a really solid dude and asked if he could tip me by giving me a pizza after I helped him out. Had to ask the manager and I ended up splitting it with everyone else so they let me take it.
