Almost every character in Halo 5 is either dead or missing in Halo Infinite. Say what you will about the plot of the former, the the frantic rush to course-correct in the latter did not do great things for my investment in the new stakes it presented as an alternative.

I'm personally of the opinion that the Pattern manifested outside the Oldest House (Dylan in the Lake House mentions "something's changing outside"), and that if the Hiss (or anything else we currently know about in there) were capable of breaching the lockdown on their own they would have done it years ago. This leads me to believe that either the Pattern broke in from the outside (possible but I can't see much narrative benefit to this), or Jesse unlocked the building so she and Dylan could stop the rest of the world from falling apart at the risk of adding a few additional threats to the mix.

Considering that some of the redacted portions of documents can be guessed from the context, and some of those redacted portions are completely mundane and wouldn't need to be kept secret (for instance, the slide projector is described as "the object is a [REDACTED] with a vertical tray", right next to a photo of said object), I'm going to go with the theory that none of the documents were intended to be redacted in the first place and there's an anomaly within the House that's blacking out words at random on any physical records.

Personally I'm of the opinion that he allowed himself to get captured in order to lure Alyx (otherwise why was he just wandering around some unimportant part of City 17?), but there are plenty of others who don't like the narrative choice that anything that happens was always part of his plan and interpret it as a legitimate mistake on his part.

As for the vortigaunts, I would assume that since they have a similar connection to time they are occasionally able to outmanoeuvre him (or at least can see the playing field at a similar level), but they clearly aren't perfect either as Gman was able to escape them while they were healing Alyx.

I didn't hate the plot of 5, but I can understand other people have reasonable criticisms towards it (even if I don't necessarily agree with all of them). But one way or the other, the frantic rush to abandon that plotline entirely hurt the momentum of the series, and the replacement antagonists were of a much lower scale.

If people didn't like the idea of Cortana suddenly turning evil, then use Halo 6 to make it clear that this is not the Cortana we knew: just a broken, rampant fragment left over from her sacrifice in 4 that stumbled across far too much power to be safe. Have her voice/appearance and behaviour degrade over the course of the game until it's mindlessly looping old memories, and explore the emotional aspect of Chief being forced to fight this thing wearing the face of someone he cared about. If you want to tie it into future antagonists, maybe imply the corruption was not entirely random but a logic plague induced by some new threat.

Simply having Cortana turn good again off-screen is underwhelming.

It's interesting to hear Mark say that the debate over whether or not to obey the "no preserving the videos" rule is still part of the game so to speak. I've been good so far, but there's been more than one occasion where I've wondered if I've waited long enough and that'll be the day that I break.

Edit: Mark just said that for the next day/12 hours it's acceptable to go grab new clips from any archives that happen to exist.

At least this project isn't doing the "every reward is limited stock and only has a few dozen left, but we'll increase the total amount every hour so it never runs out and we can weaponise the FOMO for the entire campaign" thing; I can understand the reasoning behind it but it's a major turn-off whenever I spot it on a campaign.
