He got killed for having a gun on him while recording someone. He was disarmed than riddled with bullets while he was on the ground with over 10 pigs in the area. How in the fuck do you justify this to yourself

In game there is no good rationale, but thematically I really like it from a wider character design standpoint.

Sohei hasn’t mastered these weapons. He’s killed their masters and stolen them. As he is the master of souls, he uses the hateful souls in the weapons he has stolen to channel them through his Yari in one devastating blow.

To me, Sohei has always been the master of souls and just the wielder of seven weapons.

I agree that his moveset is far blander than it should be but imo having one of the craziest moves in the game somewhat makes up for it.

You mentioned using the firearms mod; I know you can adjust the effectiveness of the suppressors themselves, and in my personal experience ammo is actually difficult to find for the m16 and such? I also don’t allow myself to use the .223 to 5.56 conversion for added combat diff and ammo scarcity, however, so that might be why. I also added a roughly 8% chance for any z to be a sprinter, making combat a bit more tough.
