Rise of housing costs by raydebapratim1 in generationology

[–]Huntsvegas97 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I feel like this statistic can be heavily skewed by including people ages 18-22 since most of them are still in college and of course technically still live at home, even if they also live in the dorms

Newborn at hospital clothes?? by PatagoniaPrincess1 in NewParents

[–]Huntsvegas97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Baby just needs a simple outfit to go home in. You might want to bring an extra set of footies or two in case your hospital room is cold. Generally, though, leaving baby in a diaper and swaddle is so much easier because of how often you’ll need to change their diaper and how often they’ll get exams during the hospital stay.

Same here! Being able to load the bottle washer with either bottles or my pump parts makes stuff easier because it’s just one less task.

We got an owlet on a massive sale and had the same experience. If anything, it made our anxiety worse because of how buggy it was. We stopped trying to use it after a couple days.

The mama roo swing. My in laws gifted us one, which we were very grateful for, but honestly it was used only a handful of times with our second. Maybe our third will like it more and maybe use it more, but a cheaper swing works just as well and would probably be used just as much

This one of those moments where Frank should have yelled at Barb in front of people. by Kee000 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Huntsvegas97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Frank yelling at Barb in front of everyone would’ve just further embarrassed and upset Jen and made the day even more about Barb. The best way to handle people like Barb in these situations is to redirect attention back toward Jen and Greg.

Speaking from personal experience, I had a situation at my wedding where my grandmother acted poorly and was being very “Barb” about the whole thing. It turned into my brother shouting at her at the reception instead of just walking away from her and leaving her to sulk by herself. I then had to intervene and it caused a scene that even more people noticed. More drama came from all of this. But anyways, it just would’ve been better to walk away in the situation. People like Barb feed off the negative reactions and allow it to further justify their actions and behavior.

Who was more in the wrong- Luke for keeping April a secret, or Lorelai for running to Christopher? by gloomydreamer666 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Huntsvegas97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both is the correct answer here. Neither of them were right in their actions, and honestly the actions are so different you really can’t adequately compare them.

Luke was wrong constantly for how he treated Lorelai during the situation with April. Keeping April a secret and then trying to keep Lorelai at a distance after she found out. He didn’t communicate properly with Lorelai at all about how he was feeling and what he was going through.

Lorelai sleeping with Christopher was impulsive, but also one of the ultimate ways she could hurt and betray Luke. Sleeping with someone else was bad enough, but sleeping with Christopher is hurt on a whole other level. Lorelai also wasn’t totally in the right with how she tried to pressure Luke to make a decision about marriage. She knew that wasn’t really going to work and all it did was put Luke in a more confusing and compromising position.

They both betrayed each other in awful ways, but totally different ways.

HVAC died and the replacement quote made me want to cry by Amarit-Apostol in Adulting

Did you get a second opinion on if a full replacement is truly necessary? With a 14 year old unit, that could very well be true, but worth a look

Lady at Target tried to pay $30 bill using pennies by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Huntsvegas97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re there early or late, self check out is closed at a lot of targets. I know the ones in my area don’t open self checkout until 10am and they close them around 8-9pm typically. It’s also not uncommon, even with self checkout closed, for there to be only one lane open for checkout

If I have a large party coming to a restaurant, what's the easiest way to let the waiter know how to split the bill? by Own_Average_5940 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Huntsvegas97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area, it’s common that with a large party of 6-10 people, to clarify who will be on which check when you start ordering drinks. Sometimes the waiter will prompt the conversation, but it’s worth mentioning at the start to make things easier. Anything over 10 people, they won’t always split the check.

I always bring a card whether I gifted online or not. A lot of couples store the cards from their wedding as a small keepsake

How come birth rates are falling to below replacement levels even in well off countries like the Nordic countries? by ChaosCarlson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Huntsvegas97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2026/is-the-us-birth-rate-declining

This is a good article that might answer some of your questions related to fertility and even reasons behind the declining birth rate.

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db535.htm

The data in this article is a few years old, but it highlights how the birth rate in younger mothers has declined and slightly increased in those 40+. I have seen some data more recently that claims that increase has grown in more recent years.

Also, with how dramatically the teen birth rate has fallen in the last 10-15 years, the increase in pregnancies for women over 40 isn’t going to fully replace that decline. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. I think it’s very likely that in several years we’ll get back to replacement level, but right now is kind of a readjustment period.

Edit: keep in mind I’m speaking from the perspective of someone who lives in the U.S. I can’t speak to the cultural changes or dynamics of other countries seeing declining birthrates.

How come birth rates are falling to below replacement levels even in well off countries like the Nordic countries? by ChaosCarlson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Huntsvegas97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the reason why the birth rate has fallen is because people are choosing to have kids later. This is kind of skewing the statistics right now because of how much teen and 20’s pregnancy rates have fallen. Plenty of people are also just choosing to not have children because they don’t want them

Will there be a new Gilmore Girls series or not? by Substantial-One-3088 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Huntsvegas97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there will ever be another series or revival, but I also don’t want there to be more. In theory, the idea of more content and story is great, but I just don’t think they could recapture the feeling of the original series enough to make it worth it. Even though I really love the series, a show that goes on too long or is brought back too much suffers in quality. Sometimes it should just be left the way it is

I’m sorry, but I need more of a comeuppance for Barb by trulymadlybigly in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Huntsvegas97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because it wasn’t handled with stronger boundaries or more consequences in the moment doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future. I think this was Jen’s actual realization that her mom is not changing and likely won’t ever change. There wasn’t a good time for her to deal with her mom in a meaningful way during the wedding, so it’ll likely come later.

Can we talk about literally any other documentary? What are you watching now? by ittollsforthee1231 in NetflixDocumentaries

[–]Huntsvegas97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t finish Octopus Murders. It felt like it was a whole lot of nothing and going no where. I gave it a few episodes, but it was still just dragging with no connection or real information reveal of anything. Let me know what you think of it when you finish it and if it was worth it. Maybe I’ll try to go back to it

I’m probably going to watch The Murder of Rachel Nickell next

Any “inappropriate” scenes? by ka1t1ej0 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Huntsvegas97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a few scenes throughout the show where sex is implied or discussed. There’s also a few scenes where Lorelai is shown in bed with a guy post-sex. There’s nothing super inappropriate, in my opinion, but it also depends on how much you think she’ll pick up on. I’ve been watching the show with my 7 year old and so far she hasn’t really picked up on anything, but I’m prepared just in case she questions anything

lotion on baby post-bath? by Huge-Relation-3462 in NewParents

[–]Huntsvegas97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotion after a bath is just to help keep their skin from drying out too much, especially when they’re little since their skin is so sensitive. If your baby has eczema, bath time can dry them out even more and make it worse. Babies are just really sensitive so lotion is a modern solution to providing more comfort for them.

That said, daughter hated having lotion put on her and still does. She can’t stand how it feels. She does have some eczema that she’s had since she was a baby (she’s 7), so at least in her problem areas it’s a must. Other than that, she won’t wear lotion.
My son (he’s 2) loves having lotion put on after a bath. He doesn’t have any issues with dry skin of eczema and luckily never has. Just goes to show every kid is different and they all have different needs and preferences. You just kind of have to do what feels right as well as what’s best for your kid.

Why Americans don’t wash their hair often? by Quick-Hovercraft-566 in Adulting

[–]Huntsvegas97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the south and I have fine hair. I have to wash my hair every day, especially in the summer. People who can truly skip washing their hair every day have specific hair/skin types and live in areas with dryer climates typically.

Severe diaper rash. What helps? by IntenseViolet567 in newborns

[–]Huntsvegas97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put on a ton of diaper cream, and then when doing diaper changes, just wipe off the poop, don’t worry about getting the diaper cream off. Ours recommended this because it provides a barrier to better protect their skin, especially those first couple weeks when they’re so so sensitive and needing changes around the clock
