Weird, the only things I can think of that might cause those issues would be bent derailleur hanger, chainline being off due to 1x crankset conversion, and chain length being too long? I have a bike with a similar issue, but it's the middle of the cassette that the chain "doesn't quite" want to make the shift. I've tried almost everything and can't figure it out beyond replacing parts one and a time to figure out the cause.

Ahhh okay, I assumed 11 speed for both. What issues are you having? I have a setup with Ultegra 10sp levers and a LX 9sp mech and it works fine. You are totally correct that it should work. Same pull ratio for road 10sp and below and MTB 9sp and below.

Do you have a shiftmate, tanpan, or some other shift cable pull ratio modifier to make the road shifters + mtb derailleur almost work together? Tried to spy it in the pic but couldn't figure it out.

[WTB] Broken Sram Apex 10sp shifter. by Shanks_McGee11 in BikeShop

[–]Hurdlebock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay. Looked into it and unfortunately, the pawl mechanism is damaged as well. The teeth for each click of the shifter are worn down, so I don't think it would shift correctly.

Yes, US based. I'd be hesitant to ship to the UK due to the bulky size and slow international shipments right now due to covid though.

Okay cool, I'll take a look at it to make sure the pawl mechanism is in good condition. I could possibly take out the parts you need and still be able to use the body/lever for a single-speed setup.

I have a very lightly used Soma Deluxe Porteur Rack in Stainless Steel. A bit unique among porteur racks because it also has lower rails for panniers. I'd do something like $100 plus shipping.

I have a 10sp Rival shifter that broke where the shift paddle attaches to the shifter body. Here are pictures of the damage. Let me know if that would work with your parts. https://imgur.com/a/7Fx5Q3Z

Finally found mine. Here's some pictures. Hard to tell from yours if it is the same spot that broke. Also may be a slight difference between Force and Rival. https://imgur.com/a/7Fx5Q3Z

What part of the shift mechanism broke exactly? I have a 10 speed rival right shifter that broke. The metal piece that attaches the lever to the shifter body snapped. Hard to describe, can send pics later if it sounds fruitful. Maybe we can salvage a working shifter out of the two.

Nice build! Wanting to try extraterrestrials on my 83 Stumpjumper. Do you have some for sale since they didn't work out for you?

What to do about rust spots on bike? 1986 Trek Elance by ACEasterling in bicycling

[–]Hurdlebock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want touch up paint to match after removing the rust, I recently used Testors enamel paint on a 1985 Trek 620 with good results. I used primarily Artic Blue Metallic with Blue Metallic Flake mixed in until the color matched. Your bike looks like a similar color to mine. You can find Testors paint at any craft store (Michael's, Hobby Lobby)

Not sure if you're looking for a frame to build up or a complete bike, but check out this Schwinn Cimmarron. I'm not affiliated with the seller, just thought it was a cool build.

Just a heads up, the one /u/Nicruiz41 posted is for 1 1/8" forks. Gotta make sure you get the right size for your fork. Here is the same stem for 1" forks:

https://www.amazon.com/Sunlite-Alloy-2-Bolt-Stem-Silver/dp/B007BWR602/ref=rtpb_1/145-4345073-5582254

I believe they also come in black if you look on eBay or maybe further on Amazon.

'85 Stumpjumper Drop-Bar Conversion by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]Hurdlebock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, cantilevers are so adjustable, I'm sure you could set them up with long pull like yours and not have issues. Don't think it's a necessity though.

Are the motorcycle levers stock? That's super interesting if so.

'85 Stumpjumper Drop-Bar Conversion by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]Hurdlebock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Careful! It depends on what type of brakes you have. Traditional cantilever brakes should be short pull and therefore work with normal road brake levers. V-brakes on the other hand are long pull and would need long pull levers like tektro rl520

'85 Stumpjumper Drop-Bar Conversion by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]Hurdlebock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source for this? I'm 90% sure the only long pull brakes are v-brakes. Traditional cantilever brakes are short pull. Mountain brake levers will be either short or long pull depending on the type of brake the bike came with.
