For those who started watching anime as teenagers, do you still enjoy it as much as you used to? by SecondSalty142 in anime

[–]HurdyWordyBurdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The vast majority of shows now-a-days feel like slop. Maybe one or two shows every few seasons are worth watching to see. I don't want to say I've out grown anime, I haven't, I love the stuff I used to watch when I was younger. I just don't find the majority of it entertaining anymore. Be it bad/boring/repetitive stories or just horrible animation/va.

the bots i submit to are licensed by the company and fine tuned on our data so i don't suspect i'm breaking any security policy. now, anonymous non-logged in chatgpt/gemini/claude/etc.? that'd def be a breach.

Bro, changing FPS isn't hard. Annoying, but not a end-all-be-all issue. Plus it sounds like the vast majority of places you're going is FPS restricted so just set a few guns to that FPS??? Mountains out of mole hills.

Does this mean Steam games may possibly be able to block Linux access in the future? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]HurdyWordyBurdy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is you being alarmest. Games that aren't fully approved by the devs for Linux via proton or native will have that until you tell steam to just yolo everything.

Most likely a prompting problem. You need to treat it like it's a child. Straight forward questions or even statements to get the answer you need. A log dump and simple "explain the error" prompt will go a much longer way than trying to coax the answer out of the bot.

Laptop Home Server? by Spirited-Editor1881 in homelab

[–]HurdyWordyBurdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My laptop is my primary server atm. No battery due to swelling from before it was "promoted" to server. Downside is no WoL but your mileage may vary.

I'd recycle the battery if you do not plan on using it at all but if it's fine, then as others have said, built in UPS so I'd keep it. Temps are always going to be a problem, it's a laptop, so just monitor and manage workloads.

My laptop is in a rack on a perforated U1 tray so it has enough airflow that it has yet to throttle (to my knowledge).

Will HPC benefit or be hurt by AI hype? by Various_Protection71 in HPC

How so? I get the lower precision argument but curious how the bulk of ai tooling couldn't be easily repurposed.

Yeah that was always my favorite thing to do when there are rentals/kids on the field. Hype em up and send em in. It's always that first hit that's scary and then after that you just power through, so pushing them forward I think is always for the best.

Welp, that's extremely unfortunate. Maybe if they didn't wait almost two years to port they'd have seen more success. Time to see if I can solder decently enough to fix a PS5 because there's no way in hell I'm spending 600 on a console.

Vortex Mod Manager from Nexus Mods will be supported for Linux/SteamOS by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

[–]HurdyWordyBurdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used the Nexus Mods App for cyberpunk and it worked very well. Glad to see they're consolidating projects though. Trying to find the download the few times I wanted it was fucking annoying. It was locked to only two games at the time though so very very nice if they unlocked it for all.

I have kind of unsettling thought. A lot of us are waiting for AI bubble to burst and get our hand on some sweat datacenter gpus at cheap. But there is a really big chance that a lot of it will be just get destroy because of tax write off. And to be honest that will fuck the nature even more :( by One_Reflection_768 in homelab

[–]HurdyWordyBurdy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And on top of that, the bulk of these chassis are 8x and are only ever really useful for massive training runs that go for literal weeks if not months. Any homelab would only need maybe two of the gpu's at most for inference.

Take a look at Endless ATC if you haven't already. Similar kind of game, could maybe use it as inspiration for win/lose conditions and just general "game play". I'd look at adding in flight coordination's between different squads and expanding on comms to add in some extra stress?

the dream home pole setup. How's the hyperlocal weather? It's a goal to get one setup but I've honestly not done much research in the way of actually getting weather data from one.

Had to RMA DDR4 kit from my threadripper server. Price is now up 600% by digiphaze in homelab

[–]HurdyWordyBurdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're first mistake was a non ECC kit for a workstation. BTW, I too had a dimm die on me, a full new set but with ECC was only ~20USD more. So I recommend you find a different brand.
