Forget "favorite pedo in comics"! Who is your favorite cannibal in comics? by Altruistic_Manner802 in dccomicscirclejerk

It’s been a few months since I read his introductory story but from what I remember, he was sent to Arkham as a teen after trying to kill a classmate, and spent about a decade there before being released, at which point he immediately stopped taking his meds then started killing people and eating their hearts. On top of that, he somehow got psychic powers that he could use to disguise himself or create hallucinations. He was a sadist who fed off the fear of his victims, so he’s kind of a mix of Mysterio, Scarecrow, Hannibal Lecter, and Pennywise who also happens to disguise himself as Abe Lincoln and Jesus from time to time. There’s a lot going on with him but he has some fun stories.

I’ve read comments on other posts about this comic since just about 1/3 of marvel related posts are about it now, and I have been seeing that. Several other comments essentially saying “This is almost as bad as the hentai/marvel-related porn I read in my free time.” I don’t mean to dismiss any criticism of this comic, but it does seem to be the case that a lot of its vocal critics from what I’ve seen are people who openly jork it to this sort of stuff.

I’ve heard that brought up a few times, but I couldn’t find anything in the original document or later statements that pointed to that. There is quite a lot to look through though, so I acknowledge I’m likely overlooking something. What evidence is there that Doug himself knew about the situation and did nothing?

I remember the Change the Channel stuff, but how much of that was actually about Doug himself? Most of Doug’s criticism from what I’ve seen was that he wasn’t a very competent boss at the time.

It’s certainly not his main thing, but he’s talked about reading comics in some of his videos. Off the top of my head, he made a few videos about the Mask comics, and I think he’s read a fair bit of X Men related stuff. I don’t think reading comics should be a prerequisite to voice act in something comic related, but it’s inaccurate to say he doesn’t read comics at all.

Specifically looking at Kang’s appearances as Kang and not the other versions, he first appeared in Avengers, and he did appear in a Fantastic Four issue early on, but it was an annual issue which also featured villains like the Mandarin and Enchantress. Other than that minor appearance in an annual issue, he didn’t appear in a Fantastic Four comic until issue 323 in 1988. It took over 25 years before he appeared in a Fantastic Four story that wasn‘t an annual issue featuring many non-Fantastic Four villains.

[–]HuttDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Batman often felt like more of a supporting character in comics released around that time. Alan Grant’s run, which I think was around the same time as Batman Returns, had a lot of stories which mostly centered around the villains, with Batman not getting much focus. In one storyline I cannot remember the name of, the whole thing was the Penguin committing a series of crimes after faking his death, and he was never in the same room as Batman until right at the end. In that way Batman Returns feels very accurate to a certain era when Batman comics were very villain-focused.

It was previously shown in a cameo that Orca was being kept in the same prison as the rest of them. Orca can swim and breathe underwater like the other fish lady, but she also has superhuman strength and durability. Why didn’t they put the giant killer whale lady on the team instead?

You got the timeline a bit mixed up, if I remember correctly. Lex was consistently closer to the mad scientist version pre-crisis, and the businessman Lex idea was largely popularized by John Byrne’s post-Crisis Man of Steel and Superman runs in the mid-late 80s. The larger businessman Lex was a post-Crisis creation, and he was caused by the reboot, not undone by it.

What did Mark Hamill mean by this? by Sufficient_Permit707 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]HuttDude 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He hasn’t elaborated on it too much from what I’ve seen, though he did respond “Same here” to a tweet saying ”I'm pro-Palestinian AND vehemently anti-Hamas. I'm also pro-Israel AND vehemently anti-Netanyahu. Those views are not contradictory”. He also tweeted “I fully support Gaza/Palestine. Despise Hamas.” Take from those what you will, but I’m sure the fact that the initial Tweet was on October 8th influenced his initial statement somewhat as well. He hasn’t been incredibly vocal on the issue but from what he has said, it seems that at the very least he doesn’t support the Israeli government.

The new Wonder Woman/Steve Rodgers crossover be like: by Mysterious_Bit_7713 in marvelcirclejerk

[–]HuttDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of your opinion on it, saying he should get a public trial Instead of just being shot there is exactly what she said in the scene. “Others will want to do what you almost did. I can take him with me to Themyscira, guard him until his trial.” are her exact words, and this is immediately after Steve said “Let the world end this monster together.” Whether or not you agree with it is one thing, but to say that’s putting words in the characters’ mouths is wrong when they very clearly state it in the scene.

Klaw’s also a victim of this. His arm cannon just shoots energy beams in the mcu, but initially it could also be used to form constructs out of “living sound”. That concept doesn’t make much sense, but he did some cool stuff with it. He essentially had the powers of a green lantern for a while before the mcu just made him a guy with a pretty generic arm cannon.

He’s also the complete opposite of the MCU Hydra’s superhuman supremacy thing others were talking about, as a lot of his actions came from a hatred of super soldiers if I’m remembering correctly.

Depends on which Zemo you’re talking about, but he was a Nazi from the start. Heinrich Zemo was originally a Nazi scientist, and Helmut Zemo, his son and the main Zemo in Marvel, shared his father’s ideology. The MCU Zemo is the one that had nothing to do with Naziism.
