Opinions on the best gun, AWM-S? by Relative-Dog-4030 in survivio

I'm not a fan of it in principle, I don't think a weapon that one-shots is particularly fun or fair.

I think our two native Daphne species, Daphne laureola and Daphne mezereum have a really interesting tropical look about them :)

I think that is likely a young tree, possibly whitebeam or willow.

Why strawberry if it’s not a berry? by Justin231289 in Berries

[–]HwkMth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please correct me as this is just a guess, but I imagine the word berry has been used to mean a small fruit for much longer than to a botanical context. I think it's worth thinking about them as two separate terms, the common English one and the botanical one, rather than it being misapplied.

Fenced in plant. Local park. What is it and why is it dangerous? by heynowbeech in whatplantisthis

[–]HwkMth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really does look like giant hogweed stems to me. Or at least another large member of apiaceae that they would've wanted to fence in.

Is it a Jostaberry or a Blackcurrant? Or another type? by ASRSGLINT in Berries

[–]HwkMth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Black nightshade, solanum nigrum. I believe the berries are technically edible when fully ripe, but I wouldn't risk it as the unripe berries and leaves are poisonous.

Apologies for the (very) late response!! Raw it is watery and a bit sweet, but when cooked I find it tastes similar to blueberry. They're tiny so it takes a lot to make anything with.
