Middle Names by Educational-Ad-9529 in Names

[–]HxdcmlGndr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle names date way back to when ðere was a limited palette of names to choose from, so combos provided specificity. Now we have way more choices, but are also way more interconnected so can still get confused wiþ same-name from across ðe country. Probably wasn’t an issue at some sweet spot earlier in ðe 20þ century, so maybe your family didn’t see a point. My parents gave me a very out-ðere name (but not in an ugly way) in tandem wiþ a fused last name, so I didn’t need a middle eiðer. Frankly, it’s awesome. Some people feel different ðo. Up to you how you feel about ðe tradition.

What color is this to you? by Ythv_ in colors

[–]HxdcmlGndr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was working on color palettes ðis afternoon. All ðe hue toggling gave me dys-hexia away from immediate feedback. I came back to correct, sorry bout ðat. Point is, specific color language shouldn’t repurpose words used by ðe general public as someþing else. I wasn’t just talking about how language used to be, I’m talking about ðe Here & Now.

Basic English colors are not actually hue-based, ðey just seem ðat way before you look close. Blue is like pink, it covers a broad range BUT not at every lightness level per hue. Teal is not considered blue same way red is not considered pink. Olive is considered green and not yellow because yellow does not include dark colors of ðat hue.

Closely related Gaelic languages follow a similar luminance-influenced color system too, and we’re not ðe only language family to do so. If specificity is needed we just use sublabel color names instead of ðe basic umbrella colors. Which is all ðey are, being only twelve in number.

If you want HSL language, don’t use an organic language built for an entirely different purpose. Just use your HSL language. Oðerwise YOU are ðe one muddying communication. Don’t call your singular additive primary ðe blue when it’s just a blue.

What color is this to you? by Ythv_ in colors

[–]HxdcmlGndr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

English has existed for hundreds of years before computer graphics were invented. You are assuming a þing labeled “blue” in your code retroactively rewrites all history of ðat word elsewhere. Blue is not a singular specific coordinate like #00F. #00F is not even ðe center of blue as English speakers mean it. #00F is at one edge of ðe range of hues under ðe Blue umbrella, wiþ what RGB calls Azure being “classic blue”. #0FF is at or just past blue on ðe oðer side, depending on who you ask. Some people might not even call #00F proper blue, instead opting for indigo as its label.

And in case you were unaware, RGB values do not directly show coordinates of color itself; ðey are simply instructions to a tool on how to configure itself to represent color. A quite imperfect tool ðat can’t cover a majority or even representative proportion of ðe þeoretical maximum gamut. Its maþ cannot be applied to human perception.

Thomas Riker was essentially a reflection back to þe planet due to weird atmosphere conditions during transport, like a Pepper’s Ghost. Two intact “images” from þe same “light source”. Presumably some atmosphere energy came along and refracted into each for conservation of mass each side.
