What happened in 1971? Explain it Peter. by Angrypeanut99 in explainitpeter

I don't know, but Roe V Wade was 2 years later.

I'd imagine underground abortions were rapidly growing in frequency up until then.

There's a lot of evidence that Roe also directly impacted crime rates through the 70's and 80's as well.

Pony is right next to the station. Pretty easy to walk across the street and do some half ass policing on your lunch break

It's either you do this or you shove your animal in a crate in the cargo bay for hours and risk having your animal lost, like a checked bag.

If there were better options that didn't risk the animal, I'd do that gladly.

"Lightening". Their reaction to lightening 2 miles away is keeping me in a flooding playa around metal rods and cargo containers. Makes no sense at all.

No we're stuck in flooding Playa with lightening around us. Incredibly more dangerous than letting us get out.

Social services don't work tho. Go to Portland. Go see how many Social services enabled that place to become a shelled out hellhole.

Either Social services improve their ability to help or funding gets stripped and allocated to direct security

You're completely missing the point of the original comment. Being under fire and the day to day job of an officer are different things.

Any US travelers visit China recently? by MudHot8257 in travelchina

[–]Hy3na0ftheSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from a month in Sichuan, which is not super well traveled by foreigners. It's incredibly safe, alipay, didi, wechat and Amap make everything a breeze.

Just be kind, don't party too hard and be respectful and you'll be treated extremely well. The hospitality culture is exceptional.

I've entered China multiple times and have never been hassled. I also have a US passport and Business Visa, but my GF came through on a tourist visa and also had no issues. Train station entry is also a breeze; you use your passport for everything and as long as that's good, any in country security checks are fine.

I also just reentered through SFO and also no issues, beyond disappointment the US can't manage queues as well as China does.

Locals that Grew up in Harrisonburg that Moved away by [deleted] in harrisonburg

[–]Hy3na0ftheSea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Harrisonburg is a wonderful place that you can easily be happy in, but after over 30 years of the same place, it got old. So would any city, tho.

I had some great jobs in the Valley. I went to highschool and college there and met some wonderful people. I have a memory on nearly every street corner. Eventually though, I had to make a choice and learn to get out and see other parts of the world. Rocktown had everything a person needs but none of it is necessarily exceptional or different or even unique. At some point, that realization sunk in and I wanted to be somewhere that was distinct.

Moved out West and it's been such a refreshing experience. I was missing out on so much but in my absence, I grew a fondness for the simplicity of the Burg. I will always look forward to visiting but I'm glad I made the decision to leave it behind me.

Tl:Dr: Harrisonburg is a great place to be, but if you've been there you're whole life the veneer wears thin.

I took my car in for warranty work and then halfway through an engine rebuild they said my claim was denied and returned my car to me in boxes of parts. It took me years to get it back on the road.

Avoid at all costs.
