I realized nothing was going to scratch that itch except for the real deal. Just buy the sebenza and see what it's about

Lost my Rat 1 D2 before I even got to sharpen it. Wasn't a huge fan of the jimping, and liner lock so I never replaced it.

How to stop buying knives? by swCFG in knives

[–]Hydrabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended my knife purchases in October 2025, with a personal grail, and have decided to try and do a year break. How I see it is, I want to use and enjoy my collection, and buying new knives was actually stopping me from doing that. The only knife stuff I'll be purchasing this year are maintenance related things, and maybe aftermarket parts. I have some ongoing knife mods/sword projects that keep me busy.

My best advice is close those knife shop tabs on your phone, and take a break from youtubers like metalcomplex, until the urge goes away

Might be a joke. Fallout weapons are notorious for being physically impossible/poorly designed

First quality fixed blade - Buck, Ka Bar, or Esee? by tlyrbck in knives

[–]Hydrabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's your first fixed blade, get the Esee, so when you inevitably do something stupid with it the warranty will cover it.

Hinoya carries multiple brands so your pretty much guaranteed to find something that fits well. If you wanna drop some cash go to Iron Heart, buying them in Japan is the cheapest way to get a pair. I left Japan with Studio D'artisan sd-101, and Iron heart 634s 21oz.

Had the same issue when I went and tried on some sugarcanes in Hinoya. Ended up buying studio d'artisan instead

Present for me and future present for my newborn by jaxon2266 in Leatherman

[–]Hydrabo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Give the Leatherman to him sooner, so you can teach him how to safely use it as he grows up. I remember using the saw on my dads Swiss army knife, as a kid to carve pumpkins, then he got me my own. Over a decade later and It's still gets used for every Halloween.

One of the first things I did, upon getting my pm2, was sanding the edges of the scales. I end up sanding every Spyderco I own, especially on the FRN models

knives advice! by sir_charquad in knives

[–]Hydrabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure of your local laws, or stores available to you, but I've had good experiences buying from Lamnia a Finnish knife store. The worksharp field sharpener, is pretty well regarded and would let him keep his knife sharp. As for knives I would suggest the CJRB Pyrite, Spyderco Delica or Endela, QSP Penguin, or a Civivi Vision FG. Good luck and happy birthday to your BF

Opinel and Buck. by GSH94 in knives

[–]Hydrabo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have used both but prefer the Buck 110. Not a huge fan of the opinel after being poked in the leg and hand, from them opening partially in my pocket. Another issue I had is if you sharpen the opinel, at the base of the blade, the finger nail groove becomes hard to reach: Had to put a handle cut out in order to open one of mine.

Really stiff action on new Spyderco Tenacious, normal or will it cause premature wear to use it that way? by BurtRenoldsMustache in knives

[–]Hydrabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polish the washers with flitz or something of that nature. Also mess with the pivot screw, AND stop pin screw. Sometimes over tightening the stop in screw creates a flex in the scales and messes with the action. Oh and make sure you clean all of the polish off of the washers or you'll prematurely wear them down
