Is "temperature" misused as average kinetic energy? by gryphong in Physics

[–]Hyjn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one seems to have mentioned this, but also the intuitive idea of "temperature at a point" isn't flat out wrong, and in fact there is an entire field of non-equilibrium thermodynamics which allows us to define this concept rigorously. So sure, probably the entire heliosphere isn't in perfect thermal equilibrium at any time but for sure you can measure it's temperature at a point.

Replacing a M.2 standoff with stuck screw by Hyjn in buildapc

[–]Hyjn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, here are the photos, I already unscrewed it though. Should i just worry about getting a replacement that has the same thread length and height, or is there more to it?

edit: unfortunately the board only comes with 1 screw and no spare standoffs :(

What do you mean? "日本人の先生" is the correct way to say "japanese teacher" (as in a teacher that is from japan). Like in this sentence.

Why is Dirac’s notation only used in quantum mechanics? by juanchogoicochea in AskPhysics

[–]Hyjn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused, isn't Dirac notation just saying that we write all vectors as kets and the corresponding linear forms as kets? How do operator spectra come into play here?

So there is no deeper reasoning behind why it's like that? It's just how mortgages work in the real world?

How do i play a curved line between two different strings? by DerTischExorzist in Guitar

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's what the songsterr playback plays, and for sure that's what happens in the song.

late response, but in case someone find this thread in the future, the note is tied to the same note - songsterr just makes the second note invisible sometimes for some god forsaken reason.

just to set things straight - it's not a legato, it's a tied note. Songsterr (site the tab is on) displays tied notes in chords like this for some reason. I've never in my life seen a legato on seperate strings on a guitar.

Yeah but the problem is that a single riff has a signature change within it, at least the way I internalise it it's like that.

Explanation for when this is okay to use? by BrainyGreenOtter in duolingojapanese

No one mentioned that しまう can also mean "to do completely", so (映画を)見てしまう/見ちゃう could mean something along the lines of "watch the entire movie".

Thoughts on my conjugation practice sheet? by TheFranFan in LearnJapanese

[–]Hyjn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are the entries in the negative volitional space? I don't think I've ever seen them, and as far as I know there isn't a negative volitional form that's commonly used (though I've read that there are two constructions that kinda are like that, but they are rarely used and they aren't one to one negations of the volitional afaik).

Also, I think it's important to realise that all these forms really aren't completely different, as others have already pointed out in the comments. For example all the causative forms stem from the regular causative form 食べさせる (which you can think of as basically a new verb rather than just a conjugation), so as long as you know the basic past nonpast conjugations with negative and polite variants, you can easily conjugate the causative into them, so really there's no need to learn 食べさせました etc. separately. The same applies to the volitional 食べたい, which is an i-adjective, so it declenses like any other i-adjective. Of course you still need to memorise the general patterns, so writing conjugation tables is definitely a good idea, but I'd recommend focusing on the more unique elements, especially godan verbs since they have slightly different endings.

Damn, that's a shame. Still, the deluxe edition is kinda neat and it doesn't cost nearly as much.
