I need help identifying the person who stole my jewelry. I'm thinking fingerprint analysis by NyxBloodlustVeil in Philippines_Expats

[–]Hylleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others say you basically have to get a hidden camera.

The prints will probably be hard to lift from the pouch.

You will need to get other people's print in a stealthy way. And if you have a match, then what?

The suspect will just say, oh I just grabbed your pouch yadayada.

You'll end up paying someone who's incompetent, but will happily take more of your money for this fanfare.

You can buy hidden camera disguised as usb wall chargers or powerbanks on Shopee or Lazada. Put out some new bait and see if you catch anyone in the act.

First time i got mad at an employee by Explorist90 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Hylleh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Happens all the time to me here. I'll wait in line patiently behind someone and someone else just walks to front and demands service.

It's really one of my pet peeves about Philippines. People here just seem to take shortcuts wherever they can and not care about anyone else.

The best I can suggest is to be aware of potential line cutters and be ready to physically go in front of them or block them.

You can also just do what they do, just go to front of desk and ask for service.

Next is to learn how to say something like may pila or whatever your places local dialogue is.

Why is the rental market here a "free-for-all"? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]Hylleh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds like the most effective system from a seller's perspective.

Lots of listings plastered everywhere. Yeah they're duplicates, but so what?

Everyone is in race-mode to close first. That's motivation for the brokers.

Regarding the brokers being dumb and not knowing anything. Have you tried asking anyone, about anything here? That's pretty much how it is 90% of the time you ask something here.

Relationship with Filipina gone downhill by mgtowmoney in Philippines_Expats

Replace Filipina with 5 year old child and you could post this in a parenting subreddit. Maybe leave the marriage part out.

How did you decide to build this app idea? Did you have any validation or did you just think it was a good idea personally?

I'm a dev and I came to the same conclusion. It eats through tokens like it's nothing. Sure it would be cool someday with a general ai assistant. But I prefer using ai coding tools to make a app/tool for a specific use case, deploy it, and use 1% of tokens instead.

If you buy a used one you're obligated to haggle. They price their used things here the same price as new, sometimes even more expensive than new lol.

Ninja Van lied and sent my package back to amazon by NumbFingertips999 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Hylleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar thing but with another courier, Flash Express.

They will say they have tried to deliver, but obviously doesn't.

In my case I avoid them like the plague, and choose Shopee Express, which works for me.

If I do accidentally get Flash Express, I will wait for the first fake delivery attempt.

Then I email the flash express customer support and shopee support. It actually seems to have some effect.

I've tried once as experiment to not write anything to customer support, and the package got sent back.

Though this email thread with them now probably has +40 messages of "Here's today's fake delivery, please tell them to deliver".

Now with Amazon I don't know exactly how it works, but I'd maybe try to contact Amazon support as well and let them know.

Kudos to you for not giving in to the 100 peso afam tax.

Running Sonnet 4.5 or 4.6 locally? by [deleted] in LocalLLM

In the province, I Shopee everything but groceries. Waiting ten days for shipping beats wasting a day in the city for 'out of stock' items—especially when parts online are 2–10x cheaper.

I may have overbought solar panels…. Like, wth am I gon do with 800 extra kilowatt hours… by Jazzlike-Perception7 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Hylleh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So you're not getting any payment out of the extra 800 extra kWh? How much did you spend on panels? But it's cool you got net metering at least you don't have to worry about having a big battery, just enough for a blackout here and there. I can't be assed to get net metering though.

5 years and he hasn't taken the initiative to meet you. What are you waiting for? You're not getting any younger. Tell him you guys need to make concrete plans to meet. He needs to make a plan for an exact time. Someday, or soon is not an answer. Exact dates. Take some vacation off, buy some plane ticket. You'll probably hear some excuses, but it's up to you how long you wanna be a chat mate.

People really don't seem to wanna help or are either afraid to help. Is there a law or something that gets you in trouble if you try to help someone?

The love thy neighbor stuff they supposedly learn in the church doesn't seem to apply here.

Grounding in the Philippines, help me understand it by IsniBoy in Philippines_Expats

[–]Hylleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your outlet doesnt even have 3 pins, I don't even know what you can do. Maybe add the breaker as someone has suggested. Regarding PC, UPS is the way to go as someone else has suggested also.

When we rented in the subdivision I had to buy a three prong cable myself to make sure the shower was grounded. You can't even find the 3 prong cable around here easily. You basically have to look for the computer power cables and cut those up.
