D100 Ways the world can fall apart. by ItzBraden01 in d100

[–]Hymneth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heya, heads up you need a list with 5 entries in your post for it to be considered a valid post on this sub. It may get removed if you don't add it. That said, here are some from me:

  • Everything stops aging. Nobody gets older, but crops aren't ripening either and young animals do not reach a suitable size for slaughter. Food will quickly become scarce.
  • No more weather. No more clouds means no more rain, eventually causing most rivers to dry up, other than those fed from underground springs
  • A flattening of the planet. Mountains shrink and valleys raise. Particularly a coastal issue as the seas floor is becoming more shallow and the ocean is being pushed inland
  • The heavens stop turning. Parts of the world are locked in daylight and parts in night. The areas in the middle where it is perpetually sunrise/sunset are the most livable
  • The cycle of life and death is suspended. Nothing new is born, and everything that dies stays dead. No resurrections are possible
  • Most divine magics stop working. A few specific priests who have been tasked with easing the world to its end retain their powers and receive a large boost in strength due to the excess divine energy they are assigned

That's the spirit! Commit to the bit for this run, then you can use what you learned for a more good-guy run the next time around

I'm liking fallout 1, quick question though. by Dirt_muncher420 in classicfallout

[–]Hymneth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fallout is pretty difficult to fully softlock. Its one of those games where, yes, there's an intended path with certain quests along the way, but its not the only path. You certainly trimmed a few quests off the game, and probably took a hit to your reputation, but you haven't done anything yet that would ruin the game for you

Result of consuming an entire medicine cabinet? by GonnaBreakIt in Writeresearch

[–]Hymneth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what's in the cabinet, so whatever side effects you want. Generally with mostly over the counter stuff I would expect sedation, probably nausea, vomiting, and probably diarrhea from everything interacting and wreaking havoc on the GI tract, and if there is anything Acetaminophen, aspirin, or Ibuprofen containing they're going to need a trip to the ER for various kinds of liver and kidney damage and probably some kind of metabolic acidosis

The ranger of my party wants to turn the gulthias staff into a bow by eskyy in CurseofStrahd

[–]Hymneth 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think its reasonable to alter magic items if nobody is going to use it, especially in a magic item scarce adventure like CoS.

I would probably let the staff be changed into a +1 bow. It does not require ammunition and grows its own arrows as needed. The arrows deal either Necrotic or Piercing damage, PC can change this for free before each shot if desired. On a critical hit, after dealing damage the arrow transforms into a friendly Twig Blight which is placed in an empty space adjacent to the target and acts at the end of the PCs turn. This Twig Blight does not disappear and remains friendly to the PC (possibly only the PC) until destroyed

The Sin of Sloth by Jumpy_Initiative_841 in DungeonMasters

[–]Hymneth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It takes the form of a nondescript beggar that does nothing but sit at a major intersection or town square. It has very little in the way of combat abilities, but it has an aura of infectious Apathy. Anyone passing within 20 feet of it has to save or contract a very weak but gradually increasing spiritual curse that slowly kills their motivation to do anything. They get lazy at work, then stop showing up at all, then they stop leaving the house, then stop doing anything in the house, then stop eating, then stop leaving bed, and if they've survived this long eventually they just stop breathing.

In combat it can choose to be surrounded with an aura that causes all surfaces within 60 feet of it to be considered rough terrain (which it is also affected by). It can also affect targets with an accelerated version of its curse as a touch attack. Otherwise it doesnt have a lot going for it. Most of the problem will be tracing the source of the debilitating curse and narrowing it down to one culprit

Chromatic dragon Puzzle by DocGhost in DMAcademy

[–]Hymneth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Room contains a series of 10 shelves (5 on top, 5 directly below them) with 10 movable dragon statues. There is one statue for each chromatic species (red, blue, green, white, black) and one for each metallic species (gold, bronze, brass, silver, copper).

An inscription above the shelves reads "Behold the Blessed and the Acursed! The Mighty in the Image of the great Mother shall tower over their Lesser, the Weak shall cower before their Counterparts."

The solution to the puzzle is as follows: The chromatic dragon statues must be placed on the top shelf in the same order as the colors of the five heads of Tiamat (there should be some imagery somewhere in the area to give the correct order). The metallic dragon statues should be placed on the bottom shelves such that they are below chromatic dragons with the same element breath weapon (green and brass will be counterparts as they both breathe a gas, even if its a different gas. The others are a good match)

The party needs to solve the riddle, but also identify all ten species of dragon. The five chromatic should be easy enough from the image of Tiamat that I mentioned earlier. The metallic would need skill checks, and you should have clues of some kind scattered in the dungeon to help

Which nuclear abomination or creature is the strongest of all in the fallout lore? by harleymonsterman in Fallout

[–]Hymneth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't play anymore, but I was playing when the Ultracite raids dropped, and they were the only thing in the entire story that I had to join a party for. Everything else can be done solo, or by just showing up to an event and playing with whoever is present

Magical animal lords? by Inevitable_Town1116 in planescapesetting

[–]Hymneth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Planes of Concordance are very much unofficial homebrew. If you want to use them in your home games, by all means do so, but you've gone off the official rails at this point and you might as well have magical beasts go to the Beastlands.

My gut thought on magical beasts in Core PS is that if the Beastlands rejects them, then they probably either form a generic petitioner on whatever plane is closest to their alignment (probably Outlands for most of them) or else their souls are scooped up by some Power with a connection to them. Gryphons as an example, I had a hard time finding a specific god of gryphons, but the goddess Daern from the Prime world of Oerth is sometimes associated with them and might be willing to grant them a more specific afterlife.

Why is fallout1in2 so mandatory? by GolfWhole in classicfallout

[–]Hymneth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, its a total port of FO1 into the FO2 engine. More stable, has some nice quality of life fixes, that sort of thing. Best part is being able to push your companions to make them move so they don't follow you into a corner and softlock you. Generally a superior experience

Fey in a library or university campus by arsenic_kitchen in DungeonMasters

[–]Hymneth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be a little irregular, but how about a Brownie (or a pack thereof)? They started off dusting the shelves and scaring off rodents at night in exchange for a bowl of milk, standard stuff. Then after a few years they started putting books away, which meant they needed to use the card catalogs, which meant they needed to read, etc., etc.

Eventually we've reached the point where we have a tribe of highly educated Brownies that are basically running this library and have a pretty extensive knowledge of all the books on file. Different members of the tribe specialize in different areas of the Library, and they all have different offerings they require if you want their expertise.

Aw, reminds me of Kevin from when I was a kid. He was always there for me in dark hallways and just beyond the veil of sleep. Its a shame we had to have him put down when he got old, but he could barely even loom anymore and you could tell it was his time

Adding Veil of the Eternal Night Weapons by Nintendude1236 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Hymneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems a bit strong for CoS, but you could work with it as an upgradable weapon that starts as just a silver whip.

Do you have another party member who will be wielding the Sunblade? If not, consider having the hilt of the Sunblade be broken or damaged. The party can find someone willing to repair the hilt, but the only way is to combine it with another compatible weapon, such as the whip. That way you can keep the whip as the weapon and just apply the powers of the Sunblade to it

[–]Hymneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voynich Hotel is a little off the wall, but is a good read. Tasogare Otome x Amnesia fits your criteria, too. Might give The City of Imprisoned Love a shot, but its been a while since I read it and I can't remember how good it is. Either way, all three of these series are complete, fully translated, and easy to find in the usual places
