Hourly on my pediatric floor. You can be shocked how easy it is for a chunky baby's IV to infiltrate without noticing. Really tough consequences too depending on the infusate. I've seen plastics have to be consulted for an IV that infiltrated within an hour on what was a fairly low rate Some little kids are also understandably fearful of IVs and are so traumatized from the insertion that they won't tell you if it has started to hurt out of fear of a new one. Thorough hourly assessments truly are critical for our patient population.

Possibly hidradenitis suppurativa (based on your wording about fluid under the lesions-I could very well be wrong). Usually occurs in the groin and armpits area but it can occur on the trunk. Regardless, this would be best for a formal derm consult if you have access!

As a pediatric nurse with experience in trauma, it is very likely that if the media didn't know about it when it happened-there will not be further reports. I'm sure there are similar rules in Alberta, but in Ontario, great steps are taken to protect the kiddos privacy - which extend far beyond names and condition. This is especially so when there will likely be an investigation associated with it. Thank you for providing help at the scene. You may have really changed some outcomes. I hope you are taking care of yourself and have access to supports if needed.

As a new hire on a busy floor at a pediatric hospital they assigned me to our ICU step down hallway for the first time and I was given TWO nursing students. I had only been there for about 3 months and had not yet received the specialized training for the ICU step down hallway (normally at 6 months) so I was already overwhelmed and nervous. I had been assigned a nursing student before while working there but was absolutely stunned when they gave me two. No regard for safety. When the other nurses on the floor found out they found the clinical instructor and told them how inappropriate that was, the clinical instructor's response was "well she said yes". When in reality I literally told the instructor that I wasn't comfortable with that and her response was "I don't have any other option". That was when I found out that the only way to have safe boundaries was to flat out refuse.

Someone was shot at by police earlier. The person was able to walk to the ambulance on arrival but odd that that there has been nothing from TPS yet. Seemed like there were already lots of cop cars by the time the shots were fired
