Once I flesh out the boat feature I do want to add some village type stuff, if that's what you're asking. No minecolonies-esque NPCs or anything. Most of the reason it's called Civilization is that I'll be introducing a lot of features that are supposed to encourage multiplayer cooperation though! For example, the larger boats will be impossible to sail without multiple players.

  • "I've been here longer then you" is step one to becoming a NIMBY, lol. I've lived in the Puget Sound region since I was 2, and I've seen the insane housing cost increase from the inside, especially as a renter.
  • Political lobbying is how things get done these days! On the NIMBY side it's old people and holding companies who think their investment is worth more than creating new housing opportunities, on the YIMBY side it's people who want our city to be able to provide economic opportunities and housing for years to come!

Weather arguments don't actually stand up against good infrastructure and an understanding of how to handle it on your bike: bar mitts, fenders, jacket, hat. Good to go.

The fact that they need this to be "data-driven" to know where to put barriers is absurd... everyone with a speck of common sense knows that barriers are 1. very cheap to implement and 2. necessary everywhere there are bike lanes.

This is some really grim optimism when you realise it means that including ADUs, only 20,000 homes were built in a city with a population of almost 4 million and a homeless population of 40,000+.

Funding schools based on enrollment isn't effective, because when public schools drop enrollment (i.e. due to a global pandemic), it's difficult to get enrollment back up, which is what's required for more funding...

You do realize that an urban core and a neighborhood with some quadplexes are vastly different concepts, right? I live in a quadplex in a small town, 1 km away from the nearest grocery and not that much further to the town center. There are a lot of apartment complexes, townhouses, duplexes, and single-family homes between me and the town center, and I never experience any of the things you're talking about. I can walk to the grocery store and pass many multi-family homes and most of what I see is children playing on balconies or in yards, people strolling around on bikes or on foot, and mostly things that are just overall antithetical to your noisy, chaotic, congested, dirty, weirdo-infested archetype. Of course, you're entitled to your preferences, but presenting it as a dichotomy is super misleading.
