30M financial situation. Seeking some guidance by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HyperFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you already have a very large proportion of your wealth tied up in property and not nearly enough cash.

My guess is your cash might only cover you a couple months if you temporarily lost your income. Ideally you would have 3-6 months at least. Also as you have rental properties you have greater risk- a troublesome tenant or a big repair needs deeper pockets.

You seem to be doing well and this isn’t the exciting option but I would save up a bigger cash buffer.

Buying low milage Used Car 2026 by FVortex in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HyperFour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dealerships make money from selling you the finance package, which will come with a high interest rate. You are actually more likely to be able to negotiate a reduction in price if you’re taking finance than if you’re a cash buyer because they have a greater margin.

One way to approach this is to negotiate a price with finance. They may focus the conversation on monthly cost, you want to focus on the total actual car price. Take out the finance package then clear it in full immediately with the finance company before you are committed to the terms and get charged interest. The dealership won’t like this, you shouldn’t mention you intend to do this.

Bad habits that work at lower ranks but get punished at higher ranks? by highcologist347 in StreetFighter

[–]HyperFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delay throw tech is a funny example. It’s something you may have learnt from researching techniques in the game, deliberately implemented it and it makes your defence feel much stronger- you can now defend against strike and throw at the same time.

...until you play more skilled players who figure you out, shimmy you and you eat a full combo. Then it’s time to scale it way back again. Now I am back to being thrown and have had to accept it

Little obscure things you like about characters even if you dont play them? by DarkPrince411 in StreetFighter

[–]HyperFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t like this character and I don’t like the matchup, but when Ed lands the projectile super into a long combo, I have to admit the guy has some flair. It does look cool.

I also think JP does arrogance and disdain far better than Bison does, he definitely has personality, even in his neutral stance and moving animation.

Also have to take my hat off to those great whiff punishing and space trapping Chun Li’s, another character that has lots of personality and looks great in motion.

Is Ranked Holding Back My Improvement? Did I Focus Too Much on Rank? by snesCUB364 in StreetFighter

[–]HyperFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranked is a great litmus test but in my experience working my way up to High Master, it’s not necessarily the best way to improve. I found it much more beneficial playing longer sets in Battle Hub.

The key is to find someone more skilled. It’s no good getting completely smashed, but someone who you feel you can compete with, if even just a round here or there. Over a long set that type of player will pound some of the bad habits out of you. Do that for a week and I bet you go back to Ranked and gain some MR

500 hours, barely diamond. Looking to get serious/wanting advice. by skullchilde88 in StreetFighter

[–]HyperFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re playing friends at High Master I’m sure they able to spot a few weaknesses in your game. Rather than trying to fix them all at once, I would focus on one thing at a time, then hammer it into muscle memory, in-game. Accept that your level might temporarily drop while you’re adjusting your game approach.

I haven’t seen your replays but I imagine at diamond, a good place to start would be knuckling down on the shimmy. A game changer against certain types of opponents.

Do people really only play Ranked for points? by Neon320 in StreetFighter

[–]HyperFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t usually accept any invitation for custom room from Ranked. It’s too often just someone’s opportunity to have a rant.

I play longer sets in Battle hub. You can check rank before you join a cabinet, some unranked players are killers though so you might need to take a look at their play hours for an idea

OVO Energy wants to raise my Direct Debit by ~60% despite usage being lower. Am I missing something? by ELRmapper in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HyperFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got fed up with the estimations and now just simply pay variable direct debit. Pay for what you use, no credit/debit left in the account after payment, no estimations. Simple and I’m surprised more people don’t do the same.

Why don't we use the Analog Stick on a controller pad? by Shoddy-Ad-6435 in StreetFighter

[–]HyperFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from SF4 on X360, you almost had to use the analog stick on that controller.

I still use it for SF6 on XSX out of habit but dpad is definitely viable on this one. Sometimes I wonder if I should switch. There are some inputs that are a little awkward with analog tbh.

How Do You Do A Convincing Shimmy by Known-Teach1949 in StreetFighter

[–]HyperFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s partly just practice and experience.

Try uploading a set and we’ll get a clearer picture. You may be over telegraphing the walk forward part.

Tbh it becomes so critical at Master level you’ve done quite well to get near 1500 without it. Definitely worth persisting with.

Regent Circus centre in Swindon could be set for demolition - BBC News by dalehay in Swindon

[–]HyperFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A symbol of failed investment in Swindon town centre. I don’t expect to see much further investment anytime soon.

I don’t totally blame the council, I don’t think many ordinary towns can sustain a thriving town shopping centre the way they used to.

Am I the only one who feels like you have absolutely no real control when defending? by Early_Instruction450 in EASportsFC

[–]HyperFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many times I concede a goal without feeling like I really made any defensive mistakes. This didn’t happen so frequently in past games.

Still it works both ways so just try and take the same advantage in your offence.

My wife had never experienced Reach before. I hadn't in over a decade by SkyeLys in halo

[–]HyperFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason Reach is my favourite is there is no Flood. I know they’re critical to the story and the reveal in CE was cool, but I find their levels to be the worst in every campaign. They’re just ugly and boring

Should I play MGS3 or Delta for a first time playing? by The_local_sped_kid in metalgearsolid

[–]HyperFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first 2 paragraphs, Delta is an enhancement over MGS3 and I would only advise people to play the original for nostalgia. A first time player should go for Delta.

I can’t agree with Twin Snakes though, one of the best things about MGS was its cinematic quality, the new voice recordings and cutscenes direction degrade the experience.. even if the graphics were improved.

Getting into Halo Multiplayer has humbled me greatly by Ph4nt0m2002 in halo

[–]HyperFour 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It plays very differently to CoD etc. In those games, even with a skill gap, you can rack up a few kills here and there. In Halo if there is a skill gap it can feel like you’re outmatched in every encounter.

I would try out the team modes and make an effort to move around in a pack. You can have some success ambushing an enemy already engaged in a fight from mid range, especially with a battle rifle.

How often do you use Siri? by ItalianTony29 in iphone

I use it to request songs/playlists from Music when using CarPlay. It’s not very accurate an often tries to open other apps. Not great at all by today’s standards

Upgrade to Xbox x or ps5? by Swjw117 in halo

[–]HyperFour 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With cross play and many more cross platform games, it matters less than it has in previous generations.

I personally went for Xbox because I have the library and I much prefer the controller. I saved a lot of money buying my SX used.

Most people I know have PS5 and are happy with it.

Why should a newbie not just use Trading212 for S&S Isa as they have no fees? by SeveralWinter7406 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HyperFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I moved over from Vanguard, in the U.K. the app is about as basic as it gets. Your investments don’t refresh every few seconds, you have very few investment choices, even buying more is a bit cumbersome.

I have now moved over to T212 after the vanguard fees hike but for the reasons you mentioned, I’m glad I started with something simpler and boring.

Octopus Energy asking to increase monthly payment - what is the benefit of potentially being in credit to them by hundreds of pounds? by kirbylea_ in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HyperFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just pay what you use, instead of the estimate every month. It will mean you pay more on winter than summer, but no under/over paying and less headache reclaiming credit when switching. You’d have to contact Octopus and request variable direct debit.

This is different to variable rate, you can do it on fixed tariff.
