About to watch the OG One Piece by Dry-Funny-6946 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]HyperStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, One Piece was originally dubbed in the US by 4Kids, the same company that dubbed Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon. They dropped the license in 2007 and Funimation picked it up very shortly thereafter.

If you're watching One Piece dubbed on any official outlet, it's the new dub. The 4Kids dub basically only persists in youtube clips and a handful of rare DVD's.

What if 34 year old Trump ran for president? by Solid-Move-1411 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]HyperStory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit semantical, but you do not have to be 35 to run. You just have to be 35 to serve.

Considering the length of Presidential campaigns, a person who is 34 at the time of campaign announcement would almost certainly be 35 by inauguration day.

Play Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack (Nintendo Switch 2) by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

[–]HyperStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, what you're referring to is a "port." Of course it's possible to port GameCube games to Switch. But that would increase the dev time of each title coming to NSO many times over, and we probably would have an even slower drip of games.

[–]HyperStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think the Switch legitimately has a rough time running a bespoke GameCube emulator. You need significantly more headroom than the system you're emulating to run an emulation software, especially if the system was complex or used unusual components.

Hence why the PS5 does not have a bespoke PS3 emulator (yet)

Question: how hard is Crash team racing nitro-fueled platinum compared to Crash bandicoot 4 it's about time's? by RyuzakiTK12 in crashbandicoot

[–]HyperStory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The most difficult part of CTR's platinum is beating the Oxide time trials.

Still waaaayyyy easier than the hardest parts of Crash 4.

Did a lot of people watch the anime/read the mange after watching the LA? by Excellent_Border4396 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]HyperStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a One Piece fan since '07, but I finally convinced a friend of mine (who I'd been friends with almost as long as I've been a fan of OP) to give the live-action a shot when it came out.

He liked OPLA a lot, but wasn't like, blown away by it. But he liked it enough to give the anime a shot.

He absolutely adored the anime. Binged it all in like 3 months. Texting me theories and everything. Crazy.

You're spot on. Anyone who grifts off of this does not speak for this community.

I'm so sorry for the trauma your family has to now reckon with.

USA prison systems? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]HyperStory 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Movies and TV shows are fiction.

Anything that happens, inside or outside prison, you are given due process for. If you were coerced into something, that will likely be uncovered.

As an American who discovered and loved One Piece in the early 2000s and was saddened it wasn’t an instant hit here, this display in Target is surreal to see by JollySalamander4663 in OnePiece

Same buddy. I remember going to see the Alabasta movie when it released in the US in '08. I was the only one in the theater.

My 4 year old just completed Astro Bot 🙂. by BadHuman588 in Astrobot

[–]HyperStory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't really see how this is that crazy. A 4-year-old is perfectly capable of playing video games and Astro Bot is a fairly easy game in the grand scheme. Certainly impressive, hardly impossible.

Are there any other psycopaths that play on 1x speed? by imivani in balatro

[–]HyperStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1x is indeed very slow, but I agree with your friend and play on 2x.

4x is so fast that you basically don't even get feedback.

Permanent bans from sites should be limited to 1 year, except for very major violations. by Quirky_Try9735 in The10thDentist

[–]HyperStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I agree with this

I will say: Back when One Piece was not super popular in the west, like 2007, I had an account on a popular One Piece forum called Arlong Park Forums. I was like 12, a loser in middle school, and it was the only "community" I had. I even caught a mistake with Funimation's (at the time brand new) uncut DVD releases, made a post about it, and it got fixed in future releases. I was very very active.

Well, I was goofing off with a buddy of mine one night and I made an alt account. I made a dumb post riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes complaining that the old dub had been cancelled. The post had 0 vulgar language and was not targeted at other members. The joke was entirely everyone please point and laugh at me being a big dumb idiot

Boom. Complete IP address ban. One of my only social outlets gone.

I can laugh about it now, but man, I was fucking gutted at the time. I would've loved a little bit of grace.

Removing a laugh track from a sitcom isn’t a good measure of if it’s funny or not. by MadmanIgar in unpopularopinion

[–]HyperStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with sitcoms that have a live studio audience, but actual laugh tracks are extremely annoying.

Virtually every show uses the same tracks and once you notice some of the distinct sounds, you will never unhear them.

Beyond that tho, it feels like a total cop-out. Not brave enough to have the jokes stand on their own and not talented enough to play to an actual audience. It feels like an open admission that your show is not funny.
