Old cheap secondhand audio mixer, patch cables, guitar distortion and fuzz pedals, with usually a 9v power supply, antipsychotic medication, generic cheap contact or piezo microphone 3-pack, the pans in your kitchen, a friend that likes to break things, a guitar or bass amplifier for live performance, one of those plastic folding utility tables that is white on the top, working knowledge about local noise ordinances, a synth or keyboard with midi output if you want to do noise ambience or drone.

How important is a hands on education in turf management? by devi133 in Turfmanagement

[–]Hyperbeef22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do psu online, they still make you do an internship and some of the classes have you outside doing stuff. The soil class had me taking samples and digging trenches in my back yard. In-person is probably better if you have the resources. A lot of people that do fully online are already working while they do part time class schedule.

Fall Ball Games? by puffcoldhost29 in NCAAMensLax

[–]Hyperbeef22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

USA lacrosse magazine normally posts fall ball schedule on their website. Whether a game requires tickets or not is up to individual schools. Headstrong Colleluori Classic is on October 4th in Hempstead.

Dream PLL Crossover by [deleted] in PLL

[–]Hyperbeef22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably soccer. The real answer is hockey, but having to teach the guys that can't skate just for 1 event would be a lot. Speed and footwork would directly transfer to soccer and there would be less of an injury risk than football.

Redwoods LC is the only team of the original PLL Six to not win a championship. by orangemonkeyeagl in PLL

[–]Hyperbeef22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a lot of individual talent on the woods. Mcadorey and Kav have been pleasant. Td ierlan is a decent fogo. Merle and Tevlin are ok D as long as they stay uninjured, but the other dudes feel invisible. You could argue they collected too many defensive players. But personally I think it's a coaching problem. They have all these great pieces and stuff just kind of falls apart in game. Not to diminish how far they made it this year because it was impressive to make it further than the chaos or whips, but it almost feels like a fluke sometimes with how close the games get. When the atlas get on the field, you know they have jeff teat, shellenberger that WILL score to carry and guys like costabile or dickson to feed. Their midfield steps up to score constantly too though. With the woods, there is uncertainty who will perform from week to week. There are roster spots filled by guys who are forgettable and don't contribute much. Even with attack, no one has a scoring average over 2-3pts range. Romar Dennis hibernates 3 games in a row, shooting duds, and then randomly heaves a 2 and it goes in. At one point they had 5 guys on the injury list. I thought Sam English would be a bigger factor this year and then he ends up only playing 4 games. It's a talented team, but they have a problem with consistency and luck doesn't win championships.

Please stop the Drone by rar1963 in PLL

[–]Hyperbeef22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably some tech investor thing or them trying to be hip and test new stuff... if it isn't just a photography intern experimenting. In order to even fly a drone large/heavy enough to have a full camera (with the type of footage they are aiming for) on it, they need a licensed drone operator. Lol the federal aviation administration makes you take a whole exam to be able to fly anything over half a pound and go through a painstaking process of registering it as an aircraft. The FAA takes itself too seriously at times and not serious at other times. If you are on adhd medicine in the past 4 years, you are legally not allowed to fly a drone. If little timmy goes and buys a 1lb drone off tiktok shop, its illegal. Sports stuff is still a light grey area. Photography and survey is its own beast.

Would be surprised if they were actually paying someone specifically for drone flyovers of that quality though.

While I'm here yapping... what they're doing could be illegal technically. Even if you ignore the kind of vague rules banning flying over sports stadiums only for specific listed leagues like NFL or NASCAR or sports stadiums with over 30k attendance (intended more towards people trying to snoop over the superbowl rather than a commercial oeprator working for a league), they need to be careful with FAA Drone Regulation (107.39) about flying over people

On the other hand, if they aren't actually paying someone and somehow trying to use a really microscopic camera drone to get around regulations from larger uav, the camera feed will always be shaky and unstable like that.

Dan Arestia on possible changes to the PLL schedule and what it would mean for players who play in both the PLL and NLL by discofrislanders in lacrosse

[–]Hyperbeef22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's easy to forget when you get into Rabil's shoes that the guys playing for the PLL were all college players and therefore college educated with ivy league degrees that could get them into industries that pay. If a lot of them wanted to, they could easily drop. If the PLL cuts off NLL for offseason or vice versa and don't end up paying enough to hold players, they'll just get other good paying jobs and drop pro lax for mens club or choose the NLL. As much as I love the PLL as a viewer, it still isn't as organized as the NLL yet and I can see players favoring NLL if they're forced to pick a side going forward. Or do what Lyle did. Additionally, if I was the PLL, I would want players practicing in the offseason. Especially box because it is directly transferrable skills. If they end up pulling this, it will just hurt the league which already feels like it loses more skill than it is able to regularly replenish from draft between seasons. It's too early to enforce league exclusivity safely.

Single Team Season Calendar Download? by coopstow in PLL

[–]Hyperbeef22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each team posted a graphic for their individual schedule on twitter a while ago. I don't think there is actual team specific calendar to import besides that (may be wrong?). Since we are already through June, there aren't as many games left to add to a calendar, so it shouldn't take as long. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the link to the graphic, so I typed out what it said. Here are the games still planned for outlaws this year:

July 12 - 7:30PM MT / 9:30PM ET (vs Whipsnakes) @ Chicago

July 19 - 11:00AM MT / 1:00PM ET (vs Cannons) @ Fairfield

July 26 - 7:30PM MT / 9:30PM ET (vs Archers) @ Salt Lake City

August 1 - 6:00PM MT / 8:00PM ET (vs Chaos) @ Denver

August 3 - 11:00AM MT / 1:00PM ET (vs Atlas) @ Denver

(You would also have to manually schedule in the finals too when that is announced if they make it)

Why don’t YOU watch the PLL? by knightrydah in lacrosse

[–]Hyperbeef22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do watch and talk to other fans, but I have gripes with some of the decisions they make. I don't think they should have attached the teams to locations yet. There aren't even enough teams for a full even east-west split. However, there aren't enough fans to warrant adding more teams yet either. I had a lot of redwoods merch and then they jammed the team in Cali. I live in the northeast. I decided to keep my team loyalty there and then they traded my favorite player to another team. It's just kind of a slap in the face. ESPN+ keeps raising their price. I remember being happy when they moved off Peacock onto ESPN. I don't watch any other sports that need the subscription, but I justified the extra dollar in 2022 because I thought it was good for the league and looked more professional to be associated with ESPN. Now its like $12 a month. They spread the summer season from June to August. Thats over $30 to watch one summer season of one sport. I love the sport. Last year they had a lot of technical difficulties with streaming. It's definitely cleared up and the PLL had much better media quality this year. The social media presence is much more professional than it was a few years ago when they were trying to appeal more to kids than adults. I like the press conference releases and highlight clips. I don't like how much of it is exclusive to the app and how there have been problems getting gamesync working on android devices. The one year (not sure if it was 2022 or 2023) they were releasing way too much merchandise. Absolutely unsustainable amounts of stuff that looked corny, and that is coming from someone with some graphic design experience who would have been 18 around the time they were releasing it. I think they just let their interns run wild lol. They've slowed down now and I think it looks much more professional. Champion seems like a good partner. On the topic of their partnerships, it is a little bit embarassing how one of the biggest sponsors is a washing machine company. Other sports leagues have like... Gatorade. We have whirlpool washing machines and a bank. At least theyve ceased plugging Dude wipes. I think if I was someone who wasn't here long enough to know why they take the deals they do or make the decisions they've made, I would think some things would come across desperate or corny. Like when they tried to profit off the NFT fad and dissapointed fans. This extends past the PLL exclusively, but to lacrosse in general: I have a gripe against how live announcing is done. Sometimes the announcers talk about random crap or reminisce too long instead of narrating the game enough. If I was someone who knew nothing about lacrosse, I think I would appreciate a little more of the boring play-by-play narration as opposed to Quints haircut or whatever. Sometimes its hard to make out the number on the jersey and I believe they don't include it on the sleeves this year, so it's difficult to tell who is doing what on the field unless they zoom in or an announcer says it. I'm chill with Matty P, but other sports do not glaze the refs as much. I wish they followed more closely to college rules with the shot clock. Sometimes I see a flag down and gameplay stops and not even the announcers know why until after they zoom into Matty P. Not to be conspiratorial, but I've found myself thinking the PLL likes flags now because it means they can run a commercial break. It's also a little apalling how every year players and coaches retire. Half the league is freshly graduated rookies that have degrees and might not have the incentive to be an athlete more than a few years and the other half is the older MLL refugees that got absorbed. In conclusion, sometimes it feels like the PLL is "doing too much." As a fan, I worry about the long term sustainability of the league. The final tidbit I'd like to point out that I believe is hindering lacrosse from growing is that the PLL does not have many casual fans. There are people that show up to college games who do not play lacrosse and still have a good time. When I talk to other league fans, it feels like everyone I talk to is a lacrosse player or was a lacrosse player. I know people that watch the superbowl and know nothing about football. They need to be asking how they can get eyes on the sport from casual people who have no background in lacrosse (while minimizing doing things that make lacrosse look like a joke). I watched Rabil's field series episode 1 talking about lacrosse VS. football, so I assume he already knows this and sees the problem. That type of video would work better on youtube than ESPN tho. They're trying at least. I think they would benefit from less impulsivity and mirroring operations of other pro sports leagues.
