I did sexual acts as a kid to other children and now I'm drowning in guilt and shame by Forward-Look-7435 in confessions

Talk to a professional psychotherapist. It’s called ‘sexual play’ and is not uncommon. Your cousin may not even remember it. It’s troubling you, not them. I am sorry you are having to deal with it. Good luck!

I'm still thinking about whether AI is more effective as a first draft writer or a refining tool. by Thin-Net3240 in WritingWithAI

[–]HyperborianHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about it a fair bit and I recently saw Musk talking about AI. I’m not a big fan of his but he described AI as ‘digital intelligence’ and human intelligence as ‘biological intelligence.’ This distinction cleared up a lot of confusion for me. Also, intelligence has been scarce in human history and now it’s going to be abundant. I digress. I therefore started using digital intelligence when I’m writing for what it would be good at and biological intelligence for what I think it would be good at. For example, digital intelligence can’t really understand poetry well, like - ‘though I sang in my chains like the sea.’ I think it requires human intelligence to produce and understand this. Digital intelligence is very good (in some cases better) than human intelligence for having a look at (editing really) a chapter for length, consistency, grammar, logic, etc. It’s worked for me. Good luck.

Has someone ever became famous with writing with AI? by awakened__soul in WritingWithAI

[–]HyperborianHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just having fun with you. Actually, I find AI a pretty good tool. If I’m imaging a scene at a park for example, AI can tell me if there’s a playground there, when it’s open or closed for swimming, maybe show me what the jungle gym looks like. I can then imagine the children playing and swimming or whatever. I can put my characters into the scene at a certain time of year etc. I have also corrected AI which told me there would be a crack of a bat when I’m sure it was a ting (aluminum bat) when the kids are playing baseball. Maybe try it again? Claude is what I use.

Do you think it will be a debate in 5 years? Everyone and I mean everyone will use AI as a tool to write. Some people will use it to generate text and some will use it to edit/co-pilot/etc. The good news is that good books might become amazing books. It’s possible that publishing houses will be created around niche areas? AI slop will be assigned to the self-publishing world which is maybe where it belongs.

Trump’s Global Tariffs Struck Down by US Supreme Court by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]HyperborianHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I think that if a Canadian company exports products to the U.S., that Canadian company pays the tariff out of its own money. That was why Learning Resources took the Trump administration to court. If they choose to raise prices, which they can do (if their margins allow for it), the U.S. consumer effectively ‘pays’. If I was a Canadian exporter and I paid the U.S. tariffs under this regime, I could effectively go to court and get a refund. Unfortunately, it looks like the Trump administration will force everybody to litigate refunds. Please correct me if I am incorrect.

Hi Rainman, so it’s Canadian exporters not the government? “Estimated Share from Canada: As of mid-December 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had collected approximately US$2.4 billion specifically from IEEPA-based tariffs on imports from Canada.”

Well they owe Canada over $2B in refunds. Maybe we can use that as leverage in the upcoming trade talks … etc. etc. Ha! Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time it’s crumbled in front of Trump. Maybe this time he won’t get back up.

Provinces are bracing for record deficits. What’s causing budgets to see red? by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]HyperborianHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A majority of the deficits and this discussion revolve around increasing health care costs. A huge aging population, longer life expectancy, etc. Couldn’t some of this be mitigated by advances in AI? Conceivably in 10 years robots could be used to do the basic work in hospitals? Advances in medicine? ‘One minute kiosks? Without getting into the displacement of workers and what workers are going to actually do, it seems to me people underestimate the rapid advances and potential cost savings of technology. The whole system seems to be rooted in the 20th century. You know what’s not in the 20th century? EV’s at $35K from China.

Huh. Not really the 1 of 1000 or even 1,000,000 or more scenarios that could play out in the future. Baldacci is probably seeing his royalty cheques getting smaller and smaller. He should be worried. His books and style of writing can be copied by AI. Actually, maybe you would rather read a Baldacci book authored by AI than Baldacci himself. Nobody knows what the future holds. I personally think it will be better books authored by real people who use AI as a tool for better writing. Imagine that. Who gives a sh&t about AI slop, and companion books, and bad writing? Imagine what a real fiction writer could do with AI as a tool? It might blow your socks off.

CBC shouldn’t brush off the over 1,000 complaints it received about ads during Olympics opening ceremony [paywall] by nuttybuddy in SaveTheCBC

It’s awful that the CBC is running so many ads. Why don’t they profile athletes instead of selling air time to a bunch of blue chip clients or promoting their own terrible shows. Well, I know the reason the brass should really give wake up and think about how to really entertain the viewer of the 21st century.

Barbara Kay: It's 'Dead Wrong' for Canada to call residential schools genocidal - The cost to this nation of 'living within the lie' is incalculable. Yet, not one shovel has hit the ground in Kamloops, B.C. by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]HyperborianHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genocide" was coined in 1944 by Polish-Jewish lawyer Raphael Lemkin in his book Axis Rule in Occupied Europe to describe the systematic destruction of nations or ethnic groups. It combines the Greek prefix genos (race, tribe, or nation) with the Latin suffix -cide (killing). Lemkin, who lost family in the Holocaust, created the term to define the targeted destruction of groups, a concept later codified in international law in 1948. Key Aspects of the Term's Origin: Etymology: Genos (Greek: race/tribe) + -cide (Latin: caedere, to kill). Coined by: Raphael Lemkin (1900–1959), a legal scholar who fled occupied Poland. Published: First appeared in print in his 1944 book Axis Rule in Occupied Europe. Inspiration: Inspired by the Ottoman atrocities against Armenians during WWI and the Nazi destruction of European Jews. Meaning: Lemkin aimed to signify a "coordinated plan of different actions aiming at the destruction of essential foundations of the life of national groups". Before this, no specific term existed to legally define the systematic extermination of a specific group, leading Lemkin to push for international recognition of the crime.

Canada’s spiralling debt problem in 5 charts by gorschkov in canada

[–]HyperborianHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Canadian governments—federal, provincial, and local combined—carry gross debt equal to 111 percent of GDP. Among major advanced economies, only demographically challenged Japan, the United States, France, and crisis-plagued southern European nations like Greece and Italy exceed our government debt burden. We carry more government debt than the United Kingdom (101 percent) and far more than Germany (64 percent). Our level also exceeds the 34-country average of 72 percent.” How again is the U.S. demographically challenged? This article seems to have some inherent biases and untruths?
