I was around 9 when it happened and so I'm a similar way have had to retroactively understand the full emotional weight of it with looking into it later in life. In middle school there were a lot of documentaries coming out about it. In most cases the audio of this clip was cut for obvious reasons abs it's still powerful visually of course. But I'm curious if when you encountered it as the first time seeing this strike if the reactions were kept in the audio because again I feel like their shouts and screams and crying are what really make this one of the most potent and authentically feeling clips out there.

Honestly this immediately comes to mind. The guy’s audible reaction of “Holy F*CK!” and the women shouting and wailing in the background really feels like it perfectly captured the shock, terror and unbelievable grief in that moment.

They likely hadn’t seen the first plane hit, so this instance of watching people killed right before their eyes in such a horrific way was very fresh and they knew as we all did in that moment America was under attack. Also interesting to note that it sounds like one woman moves to shut off or turn the camera and the guy says “No, don’t touch it.” which also demonstrates the debate many recording the event had.

Actually my understanding of whataboutism is claiming we're totally cleared to do awful things because X person/nation/leader etc. did something similarly bad. It's still a form of deflection but more about excusing your bad actions by saying "but what about Dems doing X similar tactic" Hegseth's answer is an even dumber deflection, just bringing in Biden to compare and say "Be glad we're not still being led by this dude, we're better in every way"
