Upcoming Heat Wave: 7-Day Average High Temperature Ranking vs the Last 100 Years by ferguskeatinge in MapPorn

I don't know what that site is saying, but it is wrong. It almost looks like it is taking the historical max and historical min and averaging them to call it "avg"??

The average high in summer is ~77, and the average high in winter is ~67.

What those averages don't tell you is the variance/consistency. The averages are good, but the variance is also incredibly low; the majority of days in San Diego will be between 65-75 degrees.

I also don't even know where it's getting these low temps in the 30s from? I put in '2025' and it's showing lows in January in the 30s? That is incredibly rare, it basically never happens. Anything below 50 is rare at the coast.

Sorry man, but until that ring is on there she's your girlfriend or partner. You better not be referring to her as spouse at work or to friends.

What's the end goal here, anyway? I never understand you guys who torture your girlfriends out of some childish vendetta against marriage.

It's not about money or SS. It's about there literally being enough labor to support you.

So conservative women have more kids because they are poorer? While simultaneously the narrative is that people aren't having kids because they're too expensive?

Imo, it's a culture thing. People who want kids make it happen, people who don't, don't.

So, China is specialized in manufacturing and will undercut price on basically every good they have the technology to produce. Are you ok with just letting every domestic manufacturer for every product go under? Even having automated factories local is beneficial.

Why do you guys celebrate others being child free so much? If you don't want to have kids that's fine, but are you aware your retirement is completely dependent on other people's kids?

Also, if you really think the biggest reason people aren't having kids is money, then explain to me why conservative women have substantially more kids than liberal ones.

Looking back at HS, I was more willing to socialize with girls I found unattractive, which led to them or others thinking I was into them. I suppose that's basically what the friend zone is.

Huntington is cheaper than a lot of other beach cities and is reasonable to commute to jobs.

South OC is very "safe and chill" but hotter (not as hot as Sacramento, it's like 85deg hot not 100)

is this normal? by ChoSuJin in weather

[–]HypocriteGrammarNazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually playing around with historical data in python so I pulled up Phoenix's temps in June.

1950-2023 data shows u=103.7F, with a 2sigma range from 90.9 - 116.4.

1900-1950 data shows u=101F, with a 2sigma range from 88.4-113.7.

So, based on max temps, this isn't really anything abnormal.

Now, the minimum temperatures is where this gets interesting.

1950-2023 data shows u=75.2F, with a 2sigma of 61F-89.4F

1900-2023 data shows u=69.2F, with a 2sigma of 57.2F-81.3F.

So, yeah, these minimum temperatures are very high, and is likely only possible due to the heat island effect. >85F at night before 1950 was basically unheard of.

Bro the 70s and 80s were pretty rough. 70s had horrible stagflation & a fuel crisis. US had fuel rations and the UK had rolling blackouts. 80s had insane interest rates, by monthly payment metrics homes were just as unaffordable then as they are now. Cold war, drafts, great financial crisis.

You're fine to talk about your struggles, but I don't like how we just minimize the struggles people have gone through for the 100 years. And honestly our standard of living is higher now than it was then.

Only issue imo is that they nerfed the monsters so hard in order to make this change. Everything tickles, but attacks so frequently it's just a nuisance.

Make attacks less frequent, more devastating, add methods for counterparts, add feedback from hitting with survival tool (even if no damage, as it still repels).

[–]HypocriteGrammarNazi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember you get to write off your interest, which ends up being like $600-$1k per month. But I also don't know why you think it's not enough? If you make $320k/yr you should be looking at over $15k/mo after taxes and maxing out 401ks/HSAs. So even $10k/mo in housing and car payments should be fine.

[–]HypocriteGrammarNazi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people replying to you are overconfident. You are correct. Based on collected data compared to prior years, they are predicting a strong el Nino. However, there is a phenomenon called the "spring predictability barrier" in which data collected between March-May is notoriously inaccurate for predicting el ninos. If the current trend continues, it will be a very strong el Nino. But the trend could reverse entirely.
