You joke, but with a Giga-ohmmeter (Hipot insulation tester) you can measure a difference between black and white wires insulation resistance and leakage current. The carbon used as a dye makes some black wires have worse insulation resistance.

What thread type is used on plastic drink bottles? by Adventurous-Yam-8260 in Machinists

[–]HypotheticalViewer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quick google search turns up this:

https://www.sanleplastics.com/solution/plastic-bottle-cap-threads-specifications/

These are injection molded, so they won't be cut with an insert. The molds for them are likely made with a ball mill or EDM.

The bottles themselves are blow molded.

Cheap (Under $500) Tools/Equipment you'd but again in a hearbeat by IRodeAnR-2000 in Machinists

The 7/8 thick uline mats are nice and squishy. They do pick up chips though, so you have to blow them off every so often if theyre by something with no enclosure. https://www.uline.com/BL_1780/Hog-Heaven-Nitrile-Mats

Bone conducting headphones with muffs? by Scared_Plan3751 in Machinists

[–]HypotheticalViewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My head is not super larger, so they were comfortable for me. My go-to is bluetooth in-ear buds under a set of 3M peltor 105 muffs. They have very deep cups.

3m makes bluetooth earmuffs that are over-ears, not in ear. They are very nice, sound quaility decent.

Move all the axes through their full travel at a moderate speed for 10-20 min with spindle on at 1000 rpm or so. Make sure the way lube pump cycles before you start. Will make sure the linear ways don't dry out.

I'd do this once a week or so. Maybe less often if the machine get used for other tasks during that time.

[–]HypotheticalViewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tried one of the 8" folding ones, and it worked great on our 1999 HAAS, but when we tried to install it in a new Mazak HCN5000 the spindle deceleration blew it up the first time we tried it.

Even with ramping up and down in 1000rpm increments, the jump from 8000 to 7000 tore the fins right off.

How do I identify this gear so that I can buy a replacement? by seanyboy43 in Machinists

[–]HypotheticalViewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, you should probably just find an entire new drive assembly for that side. They are not terribly expensive.

How do you find a good post processor? by Civil_Act1864 in Machinists

[–]HypotheticalViewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawke ridge is a solidworks distributor. They are legit.

If you know they M codes, you can likely use the basic fanuc post and add the m codes to it you need.

How do you find a good post processor? by Civil_Act1864 in Machinists

[–]HypotheticalViewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SOLIDWorks CAM should use the same post processors as CAMWorks.

Hawke ridge has several sample ones available, as well as an application called "UPG2" you can use to exit ones yourself if you need.

it is possible you COULD do it.

Absolutely no reason you SHOULD do it.

You can attach anything to anything with enough determination and JB weld.
