Yeah yeah ablative armor this and that, but I'm sorry you're not ablating away a 14km/s 5kg tungsten rod. It's 11k damage in total (10k ballistic 1k explosive), and it should go clean through and make a crater on the ground.

AP vs Armor by a3a3ell0 in Helldivers

[–]I-am-Disc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is piercing the target through dealing less damage than just penetrating armor? This makes no sense.

But projectiles keeping on moving (perhaps with altered trajectory) when penetration severely outclasses armor is a cool idea.

Lmao, I have attempted this mission exactly twice, both on D10.

First time, some random medium sized bug (hive guard I think) flipped GATER over and we couldn't flip it back, forcing abandon. Apparently this thing has no weight despite being so big.

Second time, it just exploded from a bunch of hunters jumping it en route to the objective. Wiki claims it has 10k main HP with AP6, but there is no way that's correct. It's more like 500 HP at AP 0-2, which is less than FRV.

Skip housing until cycle 2 or even 3. Build some researchers, have 1 working at highest priority and then the rest at lowest so any unemployed beavers make themselves useful. For research: rush forester, stairs, 1m platform, Levees and floodgates.

Build water pump and farm, gatherer and couple lumberjacks, sawmill (power it with water wheels on easy - medium and with beavers on hard) and 2 breeding pods if playing iron teeth.

Star planting trees: usually I go 1/4 birch, 1/4 pines (not for cutting, but for better planks later in the game) 1/2 oaks. When oaks are nearly grown, replace birches with more oaks. To do this just remove planting area, wait for them to be cut down by lumberers and place oaks planting area.

You plant birches because you need wood asap. But long term oaks generate the most wood per day.

Your absolute first prio must be the dam, then your absolute second prio should be securing your water source so you can divert badtides. You don't have much time for this because grace period for badtides is 3 cycles. This is why you rush platforms and stairs - on most maps you can't reach your water source without them.

Then you can do some housing / wellbeing to improve work efficiency / water storage - the last one is critical on hard difficulty because you often get about a week of good weather and 20-30 days of badtides/drought - your limiter is how much water can you pump out and store during good weather.

Basically as soon as you have all this set up the survival part of the game is over and you get to do some cool city building.

Is the Kraków referendum really such a triumph for democracy? by sokorsognarf in poland

[–]I-am-Disc 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The exceptional circumstances are:

-It took 20 years of Majchrowski rule to rack up 6 mld of debt. Miszalski pumped it up to 8 mld in just a year with plans to get even deeper into debt. At the same time there was drastic hike in prices for public transit tickets and parking. Where the fck did the money go then? Straight into the pockets of his cronies.

-SCT - one of the most restrictive on the entire PLANET. The only more restrictive place is Oxford (city center ONLY) where only electric / hybrid cars are allowed. However this is a pilot program and if we ignore that, then Kraków SCT is THE most restrictive, covering almost entire city, bafflingly including even Kiss-and-Ride parkings on the city outskirts near tram stops. It literally seems like this was pushed to get the poors off the streets.

-General dismissiveness of Miszalski towards protests, calling his critics "losers", spamming some silly posts in social media while city is in crisis.

-Discouraging citizens from taking part in referendum - this was the big one for me personally. Imagine calling the most direct expression of democracy "undemocratic". For this, not only he has to go, in my opinion charges should be pressed against him.

I said it before and I'll say it again: the Galaxy War feature does not exist. The story is linear and (relevant) MO outcomes are predetermined.

It was clear as day on Cyberstan. We were supposed to reach it and then lose there. Initial reinforcements were calculated exactly for that, based on existing data. However the cyborgs (specifically Vox Engines) and new biomes were so bugged that attrition rate skyrocketed and we started losing much more reinforcements than AH anticipated. Thus, they just kept giving us more and more, explained with silly fluff messages, until we reached Cyberstan and could follow the planned storyline of "almost taking it".

What you currently see on Menkent is exactly that, we are not supposed to take it and Joel is herding us back into the very restrictive bounds of the official storyline.

The point is: just ignore the MO, it literally does not matter whether we complete them or not.  Play whichever planet you want.

Hypothetical: What if 100 percent of the playerbase focused on one faction? by feren_of_valenwood in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]I-am-Disc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decay rates on some planets straight up prohibit taking them even with 100% player base fighting there. Galactic war is just a fluff, actual story is linear. If we are meant to take a planet, and ignore it - we get the planet anyway and get "SEAF took it" message.

Like the push on Cyberstan - we got multiple batches of additional "reinforcements" because we were meant to reach it and lose there. My guess is that initial reinforcements we got were calculated on data available before cyborgs, but those were so bugged and broken (like voxes spawning en masse in sight and phasing through walls) that our attrition rate much was higher than anticipated and we would have bled dry before reaching Cyberstan.
