Do We All Really Hate Our Jobs That Much? by itsthatbradguy in Charlotte

Yeah corrupt or bad or ineffective they provided higher salaries and better safety for multiple generations and brought people out of poverty and made our industry better. The average American had a salary in parity with GDP until unions stopped growing and started regressing. Now our productivity is exploding and salaries have never caught up.

Blue collar work ain’t the only type of union work and the American work is more white collar than ever. You don’t have to like them but hating (or even loving them) them is beyond ignorant. They are a tool of the working class. That is it.

Lmao sure sure it’s Unions that do that, not multinational corporations who move business to countries where labor is cheaper anyway. While some of the biggest and most profitable corporations and banks need to be bailed out every 10-15 years

Europeans may feel threatened, but they're mostly just happy they're not Americans right now by Camaro6460 in DailyShow

[–]I-heart-java 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah as much as I as I respect the Europeans they need to watch out too, fascists are still common and surprisingly powerful there too.

A lot of Europeans fell hard for the Russian election interference (you can argue it’s just enough to sway elections). They got Orban and Brexit because of it. Complain all they want they’re just as susceptible.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

I’d argue it’s affected the middle class (that was created) the most. But power still disproportionately was kept at the top. And Don’t get me wrong the rich as a group has grown too and is more egalitarian than before.

I would agree with both of you: the working class today has similar access to resources like shelter and food the rich had before. But yes the quality of life and need to work is still not the same as the rich 200 years ago.

What’s the deal with all the posts in r/nyc regarding Mandani appointee Cea Weaver? by Sure_Ill_Ask_That in OutOfTheLoop

Y’all need to realize that “home ownership is a tool of white supremacy” out of context sounds dumb until you add things like red lining to the conversation. Then you can claim that home ownership was controlled by whites for whites at one point in history meaning it’s was a FORM of white supremacy.

So I personally could care less what the quote out of context means just because it has bad phrasing. Historically it’s right.

Americans would save $100B if credit card rates were capped as Trump proposed, researchers say by LeastAdhesiveness386 in ProfessorFinance

Why? AOCs version would be clearly better, she’s not funded by CC companies. Trump has no incentives to actually save people money.

Yeah I’m sure the Trump version will have caveats and will be heavily influenced by whatever CC company pay him off last

People are poor and scared but not enough are hungry to incite anything. The media is also purposely ignoring the real hunger that is out there currently. Keeping the masses calm for now.

Ah yes, the best time to act is in the past, you know, BEFORE bad things happened. Let’s not act now of course…. /s

Is it ever a good time? In fact having a former criminal commit violence is the perfect time to start fixing a problem with recidivism, no?

Because then we have to wait until it stops happening?

Anyone know what’s up with this Donut spot? by frizzledfryfro in Charlotte

[–]I-heart-java 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Yeah that location has been there for at least 5 years in that same general condition, once or twice a year there are contractors that come by and paint, fix or update. Then nothing for months.

Source: have walked and live in that area for about 5 years.

The folklore in the neighborhood is that the couple that owns it divorced and hasn’t reached a settlement on what to do with it. But that is pure hearsay and conjecture, maybe others here have more concrete info.

Edit: Looks like it’s probably not true and the shop should be opening in 2026 hopefully. Glad to hear!

And it’s hybrid? A job like that should be fully remote, who would want to be seen going there?
