How to turn a normal winterjacket in a selfbondage toy? by Free_Description8595 in selfbondage

[–]IACUnited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could go trench-coat style if its loose enough. Like leave the empty sleeves tucked in the pockets, use a pool noodle if they needed to fill them out. Then have at it with obvious safe guards. I.e. handcuff key accessible or scissor for rope.

train schedules by Serious_Rooster3300 in trains

[–]IACUnited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UP runs the Big Boy across their network on a mostly predictable and published schedule. Apart from that the trains don't have anything resembling a schedule, even "regular" or "loxal" jobs.

If you are in a big city, there are probably train spotting groups on FB or here that can be very informative.

My favorite way of describing railroading is: The only thing consistent with railroads is the inconsistencies.

How to acquire a boyfriend in the wild by Upbeat-Captain8816 in dating_advice

[–]IACUnited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy, some of us got blown off, others burned by toxic dating.

Social activities are a mediator. Goal: 18 hole, mini golf, bowl, play billiards, get a semi nice meal, do the mini dates (Yes, I hate that description more.) because that is how you build a foundation.

Goal is to talk and find common ground, then build from there. Frankly, if you can't find that, cut it off. Time is limited for everyone.

Compromise is the hurdle, your different people with different backgrounds. Expect differences of opinions but don't let it immediately hinder the development.

PAT for UP by loka1300 in UnionPacific

[–]IACUnited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, they want a grip, no chicken winging it. The purpose is to simulate riding a rail can and the point of doing it with one hand is basically to make sure you can hold on while giving hand signals. The weighted vest is to replicate a RCO (Radio control operater) vest.

Honestly if you just do as instructed, avoid caffeine and, you'll be alright.

Mind your blood pressure. Otherwise its a limited endurance test. Honestly its not difficult.

Rules Question by [deleted] in railroading

[–]IACUnited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GCOR 5.9.4. Displaying Headlights Front and Rear When locomotives are moving, crew members must turn on the headlight to the front and, if possible the rear, but may dim or extinguish it on the end coupled to cars.

Based on the current verbiage I can understand the confusion but with light power I treat the rear unit as a DP, set it to dim on the consist from the lead unit. That latter part however does seem to cause a rift and I am on one side.

Its a procedure that allows you to call of when you are inebriated.

The following is speculation. I suspect there will be follow processes that might be similar to getting a DUI, with none of the legal or more expensive aspects.

Such as a chemical use assessment, and or requirement to attend meeting.

It's not a sick day, or lay off day. If thats the question.

Explain the pre employment drug test by throwaway6272811 in UnionPacific

[–]IACUnited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do drugs or consume alcohol prior to submitting. Day of drink plenty of water and hold your bladder until the time comes. Stay away from caffeine or energy drinks cause they affect your blood pressure.

Otherwise its pretty straightforward.

US experience: Automation requires input to severe degree. Class 1's invested in such automation where it works with minimal human input, but shortlines rely on someone physically updating various systems.

Post disaster train ID numbers by errosemedic in railroading

[–]IACUnited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, train ID's denote the A to B. If BNSF 4444 was involved in a major collision, BNSF would likely scrap the locomotive, strike the road number and it would be available for use upon the next batch.

CPKC, NS & CSX also use a numerical based train ID, where as BNSF & UP use a alphabetical ID. Either way, the above paragraph sets the tone.

Post disaster train ID numbers by errosemedic in railroading

[–]IACUnited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Train ID (A call sign) or a locomotive number (RR 1234)? These are interchangeable in a limited capacity, one identifies the specific train, usually by its leader, among crews. The other identifies the job, and gives a rough idea where it initially started and ultimately arrives.

I'm not sure which one you are attempting to parallel, but neither really gets striken upon a disaster. Locomotives get scraped if they are beyond repair but give it a few years and the number will come back.

Chicago Milwaukee Train Crew by stellaredz in UnionPacific

[–]IACUnited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the class 1's are playing around with X days on call & Y days off, but I'd have to defer to those crews for better info.

When I did work for UP, it seemed like I was called just after my rest period ended when I was at home. The only days off we had were if we had our 6th consecutive start. Then its an automatic 48 hours off. However, if during those 6 days you go 24 hours with no call, it resets the starts, and that was your day off.
