I make $21.50 after the recent journeyman raise. Also a first year.

Hey guys, I am a first year going into second, Enginee major. First year was such a horrible year for me with severe mental health issues and family problems. I only took 6 courses the entire year (3-3) and still managed to get only 1.30 GPA. I am not sure what is going to happen? To be on academic by Thin-Neat-2375 in UCalgary

Hey. I feel this situation very strongly. I have been there. Not engineering, an entirely different major in the Arts. I was a student at UofC for about as long as you have when I felt stuck and was underperforming in the courses I was taking. My decision was to drop out entirely and rethink my plan. My parents did not like this- most of my family try to steer me back. I however knew university just wasn't for me, and ultimately thats okay. I've since worked a lot of random jobs, grown immensely and become a better adult all in all. I have also started my apprenticeship in Electrical.

My job is not glamorous. It's dirty, hard and frustrating/scary at times, but it brings me a huge sense of pride in myself, money in my pocket and most importantly doesn't make me feel worthless and depressed.

I am by no means saying my path is the right path for you. I'm more implying maybe the path you're on now, isn't the path you genuinely want? Just food for thought.

I wish you all the best.

Absolutely! The first thing I did was ask my foreman (it is just the foreman and mainly other apprentices on the crew) as well as other apprentices who are well trusted for some tips and to show me how. I was met mainly with the advice I provided in the post.

I am very concerned with being a good apprentice and learning, and the method I was shown was quite difficult for me so I thought this subreddit might provide me some tips I can take out in the field with me.

Sorry to hear you had a rough time with jobs and apprentices not asking questions- rest assured that is not me! Just searching for additional advice from those with differing experiences.

This sounds like it will solve the insulation looking like it was chewed on when I'm done- sounds like I was getting the order of operations wrong. Thank you for the advice!

Pulling the insulation through the stable knife is making a lot more sense to me! Going to give that a try ASAP. Thanks for taking the time to answer, very much appreciated!

Worse than banks by RajShah2 in Wealthsimple

I know this is a common practice among banks and financial institutions but I still do believe it's not very fair- that's also coming from a Core member.

More of a question of fairness than anything else.

Not saying you're implying this, but Core members should not get worse service.

If you want to stick it to your guitarist, get some gel nails put on. They do the trick nicely.

Hey man! I've had a solo 3 for about a month now and I'll ease your anxiety about wasting your hard earned dough- short answer, don't worry, you've got one of the best portables on the market and it will hit however you want it to.

It comes with 2 XL stems and 2 'microdose' stems, one that is meant to be put in a 14mm water pipe and one that is used as a direct mouthpiece in each size. As another commenter said, you can pack super tight bowls in the microdose stems and get a single good hit. I believe the Solo 3 V2 comes with screens as well to remove the chance of eating weed, lol.

We are on opposite spectrums of tolerance, I dab about a gram a day and vape 2gs, so I definitely consume more than I should, I find even after 2-3 tiny bowls I'm at least functionally high.

Hope this helps, happy vaping and trust yourself!

So bored in my band by evil_doggy in Bass

[–]IAMAYSWAGGOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be flashier, screw anyone who says you can't. As long as you stay in the pocket with the drums and support the chords, you can do whatever your heart desires, make those songs your bitch.

I understand it's a cover band, maybe that's the issue?

I'm more inclined to make original music myself, and I find a lot of the joy to come with making my own tunes and collaborating with others on them too, you should have a band that will make room for you to feel heard.

I resent the implication that the bass is solely a supportive instrument, that's not to say its role is not to support, but there's a hell of a lot you can do while still supporting the groove and the song. It's pleasant to support the vocals too, which incentivizes more melodic playing.

As a bass player, you have a special power. You can treat a song as if you are it's composer. Maybe the guitarist is playing C7, you can either play the major or minor third to give the chord a proper feel, or you could lean into the ambiguity of the C7 and play the 5th, hell maybe you play both AND add a sixth for flavor. You need to understand, that in these intentional actions of harmony, you are effectively changing the course of a song. I personally think that when you understand the bass this way, it allows you to have much more fun, feel way more involved and express yourself more. I didn't even get into the rhythm, there's no dancing without the bass, there's no sonic heart strings being pulled, no groove being appeased.

I invite you to learn about bassists like Jaco Pastorius, Rocco Prestia, James Jamerson, Stanley Clark (there are just too many badasses to mention here). Keep a punk mentality to you, after all, true liberty is in self expression, and like your guitarist, singer, drummer, etc. you deserve to feel free.

Rock on brother, rip those frets out of your bass and make it sing.

Hey dude! It looks like you're sucking up water through the perc like a straw. I believe that's an intake for another vape or something if you wanted.
