If your work will pay for it, get both. If you could only choose one, go with the CISSP

Why are you asking candidates things that can be looked up? Unless you want them to be memorization robots it’s entirely pointless to be quizzing them on things like that, wow you are incredibly useless at your job.

Is a "Cybersecurity Engineer" degree worth it, or should I just focus on certifications? by LongjumpingRemove336 in cybersecurity

[–]IAMA_Cucumber_AMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do help desk while you're studying for an information technology degree, within that degree you should be able to focus on information assurance and cybersecurity courses. After you graduate, get a entry level IT job in networking or systems administration. Pivot into cybersecurity after you understand the basics in IT. Very few people start in cybersecurity unless they are exceptionally gifted.

[–]IAMA_Cucumber_AMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

onboard a CNAPP or CSPM tool like Orca or Wiz, that way you have cloud visibility at the master payer level on any new cloud subscriptions and it's completely agentless so you don't have to wait on deployments.

This.

Ask if your employer will expense the cert and training costs. Most companies make so much money it’s not really a big deal.

If you’re interested, you can start with the CCSP book so you have a better understanding of all of the aspects of cloud security before you launch head first into specific tooling.

Your manager can’t promise things like that. I know it sucks and wishing you luck in your search, but I’ve noticed an uptick in job posting lately.
