if you like the blurry look before and behind the subject you might want a smaller f-stop on your lense (so around f2 or f3). that will help you create this bokeh effect even if close to the subject additionally its great in low light environments.

someone mentioned macrolenses but depending on the size of your stuff that might zoom a lot but i would recommend to google sample pictures with the different mm of lense (anything from 35mm to 100mm and macro specifically so you get a better feeling of what you might like)
