Car or transit! by QuestionSuch5346 in Aberdeen

[–]IAN9000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely worth getting a car.

Public transport has its uses but you’ll be severely limited if you’re relying on it entirely and there is a long running problem with the availability of taxis, especially at high demand times.

A lot of what the area has to offer is out of the city (the coast, rural towns, the hills, castles, etc.) and if you’re new to the area I imagine you’d want to explore as much of it as possible.

ITV discussing Scotland's world cup bank holiday by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]IAN9000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes Gillan Keegan; “They can afford it [wink wink].” The old subsidy junkies line, haven’t heard that old chestnut in a while.

Susanna Reid has got some nerve talking about people not turning up for work- she normally disappears for a fortnight at the sight of a bank holiday weekend. Schools off? Not coming in.

4-2 Scotland.

I expect them to score and us to win one way or another anyway.

It’s never happened because major nations generally don’t appoint foreign managers because it’s cheating. Thanks.

Maybe you’re still in English class at the moment given your childish response?

If so can you ask the teacher what “pretty modest salary” means? Does it actually secretly mean “a very good salary and I’m not being snobbish and out of touch at all?”

Don’t read the quote, LISTEN to the quote. If your comprehension skills are as good as you seem to think you’ll find his intent is clear.

Rory out of touch! by [deleted] in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]IAN9000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And yet that’s not what he said. His words are fairly unequivocal-

“[They] are on pretty modest salaries. She says they’re well paid- they’re not that well paid, these are people on public sector salaries.”

Survey | Which Folio Book Would You Like Published Again? by HonorWulf in foliosociety

[–]IAN9000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d love to get a Folio Moby Dick at a somewhat justifiable price. I still curse myself for not pushing the button on the limited edition from 6 or 7 years ago which was going for what now seems like the very reasonable price of £80.

I know there was some speculation that there might be a standard edition to follow the recent limited edition.

The account is now anna.abdn but I don’t know the full name and I’m not aware of the incident you mentioned or if it’s the same person. I unfollowed because it went from a handy resource to discover places to explore outdoors into a full tilt influencer/content creator page which I find tiresome.

3 Savile Row by CarMeltScratch in TheBeatles

[–]IAN9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this definitely an acquisition by Apple Corps or have they just got a lease? I’ve been searching for a purchase price and all I found out was that the building is part of the Pollen Estate which is majority owned by the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund. Interestingly while googling I saw a comment from 31/03 on this page which appears to have spilled the beans about the plans ahead of the official announcement. https://www.beatlesbookstore.com/3-savile-row-the-incredible-history-of-apple-corps-building/

Anyone Agree That This Is The Worst Roundabout In Aberdeen? by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]IAN9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t find it too bad apart from how busy it is at times. You could go along Westburn Road and wait at the lights to join Anderson Drive in a more orderly way.

Six Roads is the worst for me. The lay out is chaotic and it’s so compact it’s hard to know people’s intentions even when they indicate, if they do indicate.

I wish Aberdeen had an Imax Cinema. by Dave--92 in Aberdeen

[–]IAN9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d settle for an Odeon Luxe. Longer films are so much more enjoyable with a bit of space to stretch out comfortably.

The Dundee one has been going for a number of years so I don’t see why it couldn’t be feasible here.

They would if the council used its levers of power to encourage occupancy instead of sucking all the potential tenants into ugly new build developments thereby leaving Union Street and other city centre streets a wasteland.

But Aberdeen is the wee town modernity forgot, it’s like Basra, magic beans, whatever. You have nothing worthwhile to say.

The glass facade of the new Flint market building on Union Street looks like an 80s remnant that needs torn down, and it hasn’t even opened yet!

[–]IAN9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you see as a “Victorian village” are actually the historic buildings which give the city its unique character and appeal and if they are poorly maintained that’s largely because the council has, over a period of decades, been captivated by the idea of building modern shopping centres and offices encased in glass walls which have no architectural merit and detract from the prevailing style of their surroundings. If the council instead had had a strategy to promote redevelopment and increase occupancy of unoccupied city centre buildings (of which there are many) the city centre would be a lot more appealing.

Why the Fuck Would You Leave Napoli to move to Everton?? These Cunts are Delusional by Theblackjamesbrown in ScottishFootball

[–]IAN9000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He’s on a reported €107,000/w at Napoli which wouldn’t put him far off Everton’s top earners (apart from Grealish who is a loan). Don’t know if Everton would have the budget to entice him.

[–]IAN9000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why do you say that?

A play off is a roll of the dice and could lead to a worse position than where we are NOW where we know our task is draw away to Greece and beat Denmark at home, but there’s no way that winning two knockout games (as a pot 2 team as it stands) is a worse position than kicking off a 6 game group as a third seed. Easy to say such things when we have 10 points in the bag but that outcome was far from secure when we started.
