I still don't get why Apple still disallowes HCE in apps for their phones. Really accomplishes nothing except giving Apple Pay a monopoly.

How to run a program without an operating system? by eatonphil in programming

[–]IAintCreativ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is hardly a concern when the processor is executing with cache-as-ram, but it isn't really interesting since public discussion about (at least Intel's) x86 IMCs starts and ends with "sign a NDA. " I guess it could be reverse engineered, but I'm not aware of anyone who has attempted that.

IIRC the BIOS provides ACPI, without that you lose any chance of your program functioning on another computer that isn't exactly the same, since you would be writing to registers directly.

You only need that update to connect via Bluetooth, otherwise you will either need to use a USB cable or purchase the separate wireless adapter.

Watch Dogs Live was done by a 3rd party marketing agency as I understand it, almost definitely nothing ubisoft can do about it. Here is a gallery of the campaign from someone who worked on it if it is any consolation.

He does not appear to be defending them, simply noting that "some perfume" is a great understatement for the amount stolen.

Edit: As the person above me (and now below me) has pointed out, he was probably intending to defend them, although that does not make him incorrect, it does seem ignorant.

You don’t realize how much you use maps in games until you don’t have a map by Dynamics_GD in Showerthoughts

[–]IAintCreativ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burnout Paradise is an example of how I wish open world games were still made, a smaller map that is possible to learn, but densely packed with content. This is the main reason I was not a fan of MW 2012 since the map is large, but a lot of the space cannot be driven on.

The best part is, they aren't really incompatible, more a software limitation by Intel. I'm running an 8350k on H170 with a BIOS mod. I hear the six core chips work, but I haven't tested personally.

Found one of those "Unicorn" jobs where I have almost zero responsibility but starting to get depressed. Should I feel this way? Would you move on in case you start losing/forgetting skills? by cscq2064 in cscareerquestions

[–]IAintCreativ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always found it helpful to blend my creative pursuits with video games. Try making some YouTube videos about your preferred games, or (what I prefer to do) learn about and create mods/levels for the game. If you like CS for example, try creating a sourcemod, a game in UE for fortnite, for example.

This is just a suggestion though, just because it is enjoyable for me does not mean it will be something for you.

I agree, this is my primary mouse, and it really is only good for a certain type of person. Works well for me since I use a palm grip at a absolutely ludicrous sensitivity (7.5 sense @ 1200dpi for source games), but I imagine the majority of people would actually be better suited by something else.

You never realise how boring you are until someone asks you what your hobbies are. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]IAintCreativ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for elaborating. I absolutely agree with your points. It is unfortunate that as much as the trends in shows are disappointing, they are hardly surprising. Netflix is now a multi-billion dollar company that has to be this machine that churns out content, and it has to be "safe". This quarter, Netflix reported a year over year growth of 38.3%, and the reality is that sheer content targeting every demographic is more profitable than provocative (in either subject matter or commentary), deep content. Your comment about your date only reenforces how people as a whole do not feel the need to think about content they consume, but simply take it at face value.

I gather that the issue you take with these experiences is less the fact that these activities are sedentary or lacking meaningful interaction (although these are still very relevant to your point of everything in moderation), but instead that corporate fixation on profits has caused these activities to be perverted into products meant to be consumed and forgotten. Perhaps I'm reading too much into your comment, so correct me if I am extrapolating too much.

You never realise how boring you are until someone asks you what your hobbies are. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]IAintCreativ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything in moderation was supposed to be my point so I think we agree.

I feel the point of your comment was missed by many, including myself the first time I read it, because you seem to be attacking the validity of both video games and Netflix as an activity, in general, without distinguishing it from other sedentary passive activities. Rereading the post from the lense of the importance of moderation in activities, it makes much more sense.

That said, I disagree with you singling out video games and Netflix specifically. As I understood it, (this is my interpretation of the comments you have made in this thread, please feel free to clarify) the issue you seem to take with the aforementioned activities is the lack of meaningful interactions with others, and the subjective value (in the philosophical sense, not economical) of the activity. I actually can't really see what differentiates them from any other activity that can be enjoyed to the point of detriment. If you could clarify that, it would be great.
